India Joins Elite Group of Countries Capable Of Air-to-Air Fuel Transfer
The first ever mid-air refuelling of the indigenously developed light combat aircraft “Tejas” was successfully carried out.
It places India in an elite group of countries having air-to-air refuelling capacity for military planes.
The mid-air re-fuelling of wet contact trial for Light Combat Aircraft, LCA Tejas MK-1 was successfully carried out from an Indian Air Force base. The trial was a part of the Air-to-Air refuelling flight tests conducted by Indian Air Force.
Bengaluru airport becomes first in Asia to use face recognition as boarding pass

The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru is set to become the first airport in Asia next year to use face recognition as the boarding procedure for passengers to board flights and move across different sections of the airport.
Hari Marar, CEO of Bengaluru International Airport Ltd. (BIAL), which operates KIA, and Miguel Leitmann, CEO of Vision Box, a Portuguese software firm, signed an agreement to this effect in Lisbon.
It aims to introduce face recognition technology at the airport from 2019.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Indian-origin Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa and India’s Ambassador to Portugal Nandini Singla.
Goa launches helpline Service for women in distress
The Goa government’s Women and Child Development Ministry has launched a universal helpline service for women in distress in the coastal state.
The service which can be accessed by dialling 181 will be operated by GVK-EMRI, a private corporate entity in association with the state Women and Child Development Department.
It will help to create a positive impact on women’s empowerment in Goa and also in cracking down on crimes against women more efficiently.
Iraq replaces Saudi Arabia as top oil supplier to India
Iraq has replaced Saudi Arabia in August as the top oil supplier to India, data from industry and shipping sources.
The refiners turned to Iraqi barrels to compensate for a lower intake of Iranian oil ahead of US sanctions in November.
Overall India’s monthly oil imports in August rose 3.1 percent to about 4.7 million barrels, while they were up 15.8 percent from a year earlier.

India-Mongolia Joint Exercise ‘Nomadic Elephant 2018’ Starts in Mongolia
Indo-Mongolia joint exercise Nomadic Elephant-2018, commenced at Mongolian Armed Forces (MAF) Five Hills Training Area, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
The exercise Nomadic Elephant is an annual, bilateral exercise since 2006 which is designed to strengthen the partnership between Indian Army and Mongolian Armed Forces.
The Indian contingent is represented by a contingent of 17 PUNJAB Regiment while the Mongolian contingent is represented by Unit 084 of the Mongolian Armed Forces.
India, Bangladesh Jointly Inaugurate 3 Projects
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina, and Chief Ministers of West Bengal and Tripura jointly inaugurated three projects in Bangladesh.
These include 500 MW additional power supply from India to Bangladesh, Akhaura – Agartala Rail Link and Rehabilitation of the Kulaura-Shahbazpur section of Bangladesh Railways.

First BIMSTEC joint military exercise “MILEX” inaugurated
The Military Field Training Exercise for the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) nations called MILEX 2018 began at Aundh Military Station, Pune.
BIMSTEC is a regional grouping comprising Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Nepal.
However, the Nepal Army had withdrawn the first ever joint military exercise of BIMSTEC nations in India.
The aim of MILEX 2018 is to have joint practice among BIMSTEC nations to counter and prevent spread of terrorism and radicalisation, especially in semi-urban areas.

RBI Notifies Amended Note Refund Rules
The Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) with the previous sanction of the Centre has notified the amendments to the Reserve Bank of India (Note Refund) Rules, 2009.
If the note is slightly damaged, it may be exchanged at full price, bit if the damage is high, it may fetch just half the price or nothing. These rules have come into force with immediate effect.
The minimum area of the single largest undivided piece of the note required for payment of full value for notes of rupees fifty and above denominations has been changed.
IPPB ties up with FSS to provide affordable and quality banking
The India Post Payments Bank has tied up with Financial Software and Systems (FSS), a leading payments technology and transaction processing systems.
It aims to offer a wide range of banking solutions to financially underserved customer segments—especially rural households, small and medium enterprises and women.
FSS’ Payments-in-a-Box solution will help India Post provide affordable, quality banking and payment services to its customers.

Justice Om Prakash Mishra: New Chief Justice Of Nepal
Om Prakash Mishra, who studied law in India, is set to become Nepal’s new Chief Justice after the Parliamentary Hearing Committee unanimously endorsed his name for the top judicial post.
Mishra, the senior-most justice after Justice Deepak Raj Joshee, will assume charge as the Chief Justice after President Bidya Devi Bhandari officially appoints him.
Alok Amitabh Dimri appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Kyrgyz Republic
Shri Alok Amitabh Dimri (IFS: 1998) has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Kyrgyz Republic.

India Blue defeats India Red to win Duleep Trophy
India Blue thrashed defending champion India Red by an innings and 187 runs in the final to win the Duleep Trophy at NPR College ground.
Himachal Pradesh batsman Nikhil Gangta was named man of the match for his super knock of 130.
The Duleep Trophy is a domestic first-class cricket competition played in India.
Kimi Raikkonen to leave Ferrari for Sauber at end of F1 season
Kimi Raikkonen will leave Ferrari at the end of the season, the Formula 1 team have announced. He has signed a two-year contract with Sauber, where he made his Formula 1 debut in 2001.
Raikkonen has spent five years at Ferrari in his second spell at the Italian team.
He will be swapped by Monaco-born Sauber driver Charles Leclerc, who will partner Sebastian Vettel in 2019.
