WHAT IS AADHAAR ?

Aadhaar is a 12 digit unique-identity number issued to all Indian residents on their biometric and demographic data. The data is collected by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) , a statuatory authority established by the Government of India on July , 2016 , under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology under the provisions of the Aadhaar Act 2016.

The UIDAI was functioning as a entity under the NITI Aayog (previously called as the Planing Commission) and later came under the Department of Electronics and Information and Technology.

This ambitious project of the Government of India is to provide Unique Identification Number (UIN) which is predominantly called as “Aadhaar” to all the residents of India.

WHY AADHAAR ?

  • Eliminate Duplicate and fake identities of various identities like PAN Card , Driving License , Bank Accounts , etc.
  • Can be used for verification process , Since the biometric of individuals is recorded for that purpose.
  • Can be a single identification card for all the purposes ( For many beneficial benefits aadhaar is mandatory).
  • Government schemes benefits could be directly given to the beneficiaries without any hassles which can lead to the abolishment of bribe in many fields.
