Rice procurement estimated 375 lakh tonnes during 2017-18

 

 

               The procurement of Rice is estimated to be 375 lakh tonnes during 2017-18 for Kharif crop. In a meeting of State Food Secretaries held in New Delhi, procurement target was finalised. This year procurement target is 45 lakh tonnes more than, the last year target of 330 lakh tonnes.

                The government’s rice procurement has touched 34.35 million tonnes (MT) in the ongoing 2016-17 marketing season (October-September). The procurement has already crossed the target of 33 million tonnes set for this year.

The meeting was chaired by the Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution, Ms Preeti Sudan.

                    She reviewed arrangements for procurement of paddy in producing States, particularly in decentralised procurement States and other non-traditional States during Kharif Marketing Season 2017-18.
