1. World Elephant Day – 12 August

• Every year 12 August is celebrated as World Elephant Day, This day is focused on spreading awareness about the preservation and protection of elephants.
• On 12 August 2012, the first World Elephant Day was observed.
• This theme for this year’s (2021) World Elephant Day has not been announced. The theme for the last year (2020) was ‘Haathi Hamara Saathi.’

1. உலக யானைகள் தினம் – 12 ஆகஸ்ட்

• ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் 12 ஆகஸ்ட் உலக யானை தினமாக கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. இந்த நாள் யானைகளைப் பாதுகாக்கவும் விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்தவும் கவனம் செலுத்துகிறது.
• 12 ஆகஸ்ட் 2012 அன்று முதன் முதலில் உலக யானை தினம் அனுசரிக்கப்பட்டது.
• இந்த ஆண்டு (2021) உலக யானை தினத்திற்கான கருப்பொருள் அறிவிக்கப்படவில்லை. கடந்த ஆண்டுக்கான (2020) கருப்பொருள் ‘ஹாதி ஹமாரா சதி’ (‘Haathi Hamara Saathi’).

2. International Youth Day – 12 August

• International Youth Day is observed on 12 August every year.
• This day is celebrated to bring to notice the socio-economic and socio-political issues that the youth in every nation face.
• The first International Youth Day was celebrated in 1999.
• The theme of 2021 is “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”. 

2. சர்வதேச இளைஞர் தினம் – 12 ஆகஸ்ட்

• ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் 12 ஆகஸ்ட் அன்று சர்வதேச இளைஞர் தினம் அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது.
• ஒவ்வொரு தேசத்திலும் உள்ள இளைஞர்கள் எதிர்கொள்ளும் சமூக-பொருளாதார மற்றும் சமூக-அரசியல் பிரச்சினைகளை கவனத்தில் கொண்டு வரும் வகையில் இந்த நாள் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.
• முதன் முதலில் சர்வதேச இளைஞர் தினம் 1999இல் கொண்டாடப்பட்டது.
• 2021இன் கருப்பொருள் “உணவு அமைப்புகளை உறுமாற்றுதல்: மனித மற்றும் உலக ஆரோக்கியத்திற்கான இளைஞர் புதுப்பித்தல்“.

3. National Library Day – 12 August

• 12 August marks the 128^th birthday of Sirkazhi Ramamirtham Ranganathan. His birthday is celebrated as National Library Day all over India.
• He is revered as the ‘Father of Indian Librarians’ and is also a mathematician and librarian from Tamil Nadu.
• He introduced the Five Rules of Librarianship. He was admired in many parts of the world for his basic ideas in library science.

3. தேசிய நூலக தினம் – 12 ஆகஸ்டு

• சீர்காழி ராமாமிருதம் ரங்கநாதனின்128வது பிறந்த நாள் 12 ஆகஸ்டு குறிக்கிறது. இவரது பிறந்தநாளை இந்தியா முழுவதும் தேசிய நூலக தினமாகக் கொண்டாடுகின்றனர்.
• ‘இந்திய நூலகவியலின் தந்தை’ எனப் போற்றப்படும்இவர், தமிழ்நாட்டைச் சேர்ந்த கணிதவியலாளர் மற்றும் நூலகவியலாளர்.
• இவர் நூலகவியலின் ஐந்து விதிகளை அறிமுகம் செய்தவர். நூலகவியலில் இவரது அடிப்படையான சிந்தனைகளுக்காக உலகின் பல பகுதிகளிலும் போற்றப்படுகிறார்.

4. Rajendra Chola I’s birth anniversary is to be celebrated as Tamil Nadu Government event

• The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin and Tamil Nadu Tourism, Culture and Religious Endowments Department announced that the birth anniversary of Rajendra CholaI, one of the greatest emperors of the Chola Dynasty, will be celebrated as a Tamil Nadu government event.
• Rajendra Chola I’s birth anniversary is celebrated on the Thiruvathiraistar in the Tamil month of Aadi, and this would be celebrated by the Tamil Nadu government from the next year (2022).

4. முதலாம் ராஜேந்திர சோழனின் பிறந்த நாள் தமிழ்நாடு அரசு விழாவாக கொண்டாட உள்ளது

• சோழ வம்சத்தின் தலைசிறந்த பேரரசர்களில் ஒருவரான முதலாம் ராஜேந்திர சோழனின் பிறந்த நாள் தமிழ்நாடு அரசு நிகழ்வாகக் கொண்டாடப்படும் என்று தமிழக முதல்வர் மு. க. ஸ்டாலின் மற்றும் தமிழ்நாடு சுற்றுலா, கலாச்சாரம் மற்றும் சமய அறக்கட்டளைகள் துறை அறிவித்தது.
• முதலாம் ராஜேந்திர சோழனின் பிறந்த நாள், தமிழ் மாதமான ஆடியில், திருவாதிரை நட்சித்திரத்தில் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. அடுத்த ஆண்டு (2022) முதல் இது தமிழ்நாடு அரசால் கொண்டாடப்படும்.

5. Thanjavur is selected as the best corporation in the Chief Minister’s Special Awards

• Chief Minister’s Special Awards for Best Corporation and Municipality are given annually in Tamil Nadu. Corporations and municipalities are selected for this award based on a number of factors, including the environment, lifestyle, economic environment, and management.
• Of which Thanjavur has been selected as the best corporation.
• Ooty, Tiruchengode and Chinnamanur have also been ranked as the top three Municipalities.
• In the order of Town Panchayat, Kallakudy (Trichy), Melpattanampakkam (Kadalur) and Kottaiyoor (Sivagangai) will receive the first three prizes respectively.

6. Quality of Life for Elderly Index assesses the well-being of India’s ageing population

• Quality of Life for Elderly Index was released by the Institute for Competitiveness (IFC).
• Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Chandigarh lead the rankings in the category of Aged States, Relatively-Aged States, North Eastern States and Union Territories categories, respectively.
• Tamil Nadu was ranked 4^th in the Aged States category.

7. India ranks 122^nd in the new Global Youth Development Index

• India ranked 122^nd in the new Global Youth Development Index released by the Commonwealth Secretariat Youth Division in London.
• Singapore ranked topmost, followed by Slovenia, Norway, Malta and Denmark. Chad, the Central African Republic, South Sudan, Afghanistan and Niger came last, respectively.

• Maharashtra Government announced a new award named after the former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
• This award will be given to institutions and companies for outstanding performance in the information technology sector.

9. SIDBI launches ‘Digital Prayaas’ platform

• In order to facilitate loans to aspiring entrepreneurs who are new to bank (NTB), the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) launched the ‘Digital Prayaas’
• It is an app-based digital lending tool platform resulting in loan sanctions accorded by the end of the day.

• The ‘Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation’ for the year 2021 was awarded to 152 police personnel.
• This medal was constituted in 2018 with the objective to promote high professional standards of investigation of crime and to recognise such excellence in Investigation by investigating officers.

11. Indian GSLV launch by ISRO fails

• An Indian rocket carrying a new Earth-observation satellite for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) suffered a catastrophic failure shortly after its launch.
• The launch was the 14^th flight of the GSLV, India’s largest launch vehicle and the eighth of the Mark 2 version, which has an upper stage with a domestically developed cryogenic engine that uses liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen.
• This rocket, the Mark-II version of GSLV, was last used to successfully launch GSAT-7A, a communication satellite, in December 2018.
