1. AI tool ‘NBDriver’ developed by IIT Madras helps to study cancer-causing mutations

• Researchers at IIT Madras have developed an AI tool called NBDriver (neighbourhood driver) for use in analysing cancer-causing mutations in cells. This tool helps to distinguish between driver and passenger
• NBDriver had an overall accuracy of 89% and ranked second after FATHMM.

2. Indian Navy receives MH-60R Multi-Role Helicopters from the US Navy

• Indian Navy has received the first two of its MH-60R Multi-Role Helicopters (MRH) from the US Navy.
• MH-60R helicopters were manufactured by Lockheed Martin Corporation, USA. It is an all-weather helicopter designed with state-of-the-art avionics/sensors. 24 of these helicopters are being procured for the Indian Navy.
• The induction of these MRH would further enhance the Indian Navy’s three-dimensional capabilities.

5. IIT-Madras team qualifies for the European Hyperloop Week contest

• IIT-Madras’ team AVISHKAR Hyperloop from the Centre for Innovation at the IIT Madras has qualified for the European Hyperloop Week competition. They will participate virtually.
• The team is working on a detailed study of the Hyperloop corridor between Bengaluru and Chenna It has estimated that the travel time between the cities could be reduced to 30 minutes using the Hyperloop pod.
• The European Hyperloop Week is being organised by four European student teams in partnership with companies such as Virgin Hyperloop and AECOM.
• IIT Madras’ team was the only Asian contestant to qualify for the finals of SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition 2019.

7. Pulitzer Prize winner Danish Siddiqui passed away

• Danish Siddiqui was a photojournalist who was killed in Afghanistan while covering the conflict between the Afghan armed forces and the Taliban.
• He was awarded Pulitzer Prize in 2018 for covering the Rohingya crisis.

• Pulitzer Prize is awarded annually in memory of Joseph Pulitzer in the fields of Journalism, Drama and Music by the Columbia University. Pulitzer Prize is the highest award for journalism in the USA. Pulitzer Prize is awarded annually in 21 categories. Each winner receives a certificate and a $15,000 cash award. The winner in the public service category is awarded a gold medal.

7. புலிட்சர் பரிசு வென்ற டேனிஷ் சித்திக் காலமானார்

• டேனிஷ் சித்திக் ஒரு புகைப்பட கலைஞர் ஆவார். அவர் ஆப்கானிஸ்தானில் ஆப்கானிய படைகளுக்கும் தலிபானுக்கும் இடையிலான மோதலை பதிவு செய்யும் போது கொல்லப்பட்டார்.

8. India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives hold TTX-2021 joint exercise virtually

• India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives held TTX-2021 a joint exercise on maritime security virtually.
• It is a virtual trilateral exercise and the countries discussed best practices and procedures for countering common transnational maritime crimes and assistance in maritime search and rescue.
• The exercise gains additional relevance due to the successful Operation Sagar Aaraksha 2 executed in support of MV X-Press Pearl, the Singapore-flagged cargo ship that caught fire in May.

9. Nelson Mandela International Day – 18 July

• Nelson Mandela International Day is observed on 18 July annually to mark the birth anniversary of Nelson Mandela. This day is popularly known as 67 Minutes Mandela Day.
• He was the South African President who fought for 67 years for social justice and democracy. He is referred to as the “Father of the Nation” in South Africa. He was the first African head of the state and the first democratically elected president of a free South Africa. He was also known as the South African Gandhi. He was a human rights lawyer, an international peacemaker and a freedom fighter.
• The idea of celebrating his birthday was first initiated by Mandela himself in 2010. In 2014, the UN General Assembly introduced the Nelson Mandela Prize. This award was dedicated to the people who lived their lives in service of humanity.

9. நெல்சன் மண்டேலா சர்வதேச தினம் – 18 ஜூலை

• நெல்சன் மண்டேலாவின் பிறந்த நாளைக் குறிக்கும் வகையில் ஆண்டுதோறும் 18 ஜூலை அன்று நெல்சன் மண்டேலா சர்வதேச தினம் அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது. இந்த நாள் பிரபலமாக 67 நிமிடங்கள் மண்டேலா தினம் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.

10. Kadambini Ganguly’s Birth Anniversary – 18 July

• Kadambini Ganguly was born in Bhagalpur of British India, now in Bangladesh, on 18 July 1861. She was the first woman to be trained as a physician in India. She studied at Bethune School and became the first woman to pass the University of Calcutta entrance examination in 1878.
• Kadambini and Chandramukhi Basu were also the first women to graduate college in Indian history.
• In 1886, Kadambini graduated from the Calcutta Medical College and became the first woman to become an Indian-educated doctor.
• She joined six others to form the first all-women delegation Indian National Congress in 1889.
• Note: Anandibai Gopalrao Joshi was the first woman from the erstwhile Bombay Presidency of India to study and graduate with a two-year degree in western medicine in the United States.

10. காதம்பினி கங்குலி பிறந்த நாள் – 18 ஜூலை

• காதம்பினி கங்குலி, பிரிட்டிஷ் இந்தியாவின் பாகல்பூரில் 18 ஜூலை 1861 அன்று பிறந்தார். இவ்விடம் இப்போது பங்களாதேஷில் உள்ளது. இவர் இந்தியாவில் மருத்துவராகப் பயிற்சி பெற்ற முதல் பெண்மணி ஆவார். பெத்தூன் பள்ளியில் படித்த அவர், 1878ஆம் ஆண்டு கல்கத்தா பல்கலைக்கழக நுழைவுத் தேர்வில் தேர்ச்சி பெற்ற முதல் பெண்மணி ஆனார்.
• காதம்பினி மற்றும் சந்திரமுகி பாசு ஆகியோர் இந்திய வரலாற்றில் கல்லூரி பட்டம் பெற்ற முதல் பெண்களாவர்.
• 1886ஆம் ஆண்டில், காதம்பினி கல்கத்தா மருத்துவக் கல்லூரியில் பட்டம் பெற்றார். மேலும் இந்தியாவில் படித்து மருத்துவரான முதல் பெண்மணி ஆனார்.

11. The Resolution for renaming Tamil Nadu was passed – 18 July 1967

• A resolution was passed in the Tamil Nadu State Legislature to change the name of the ‘Madras Presidency’ to ‘Tamil Nadu’ on 18 July 1967.
• The bill regarding the same was passed in the Parliament on 23 November 1968.
• The naming ceremony of Tamil Nadu was held on 1 December 1968.

11. தமிழ்நாட்டின் பெயர் மாற்றத் தீர்மானம் நிறைவேற்றம் – 18 ஜூலை 1967

• 18 ஜூலை 1967 அன்று ‘சென்னை மாகாணத்தின்’ பெயரை ‘தமிழ்நாடு’ என மாற்ற வேண்டும் என்று தமிழ்நாடு மாநில சட்டமன்றத்தில் தீர்மானம் நிறைவேற்றப்பட்டது.
• இது தொடர்பான மசோதா, 23 நவம்பர் 1968 அன்று, பாராளுமன்றத்தில் நிறைவேற்றப்பட்டது.
• 1 டிசம்பர் 1968 அன்று, தமிழ்நாட்டின் பெயர் சூட்டு விழா நடைபெற்றது.

12. Nationalisation of Banks – 19 July 1969

• The first phase of nationalisation of banks was carried out on 19 July 1969, in which the Government of India nationalised 14 commercial banks. All the commercial banks with a deposit of over rupees 50 crores were nationalised.
• Nationalisation was an important move in the financial inclusion of India.

12. வங்கிகளை தேசியமயமாக்குதல் – 19 ஜூலை 1969

• 19 ஜூலை 1969 அன்று வங்கிகளை தேசியமயமாக்குதலின் முதல் கட்டம் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டது. இதில் இந்திய அரசு, 14 வணிக வங்கிகளை தேசியமயமாக்கியது. 50 கோடி ரூபாய்க்கு மேல் வைப்பு உள்ள அனைத்து வணிக வங்கிகளும் தேசியமயமாக்கப்பட்டன.
• தேசியமயமாக்கல் என்பது இந்தியாவின் நிதி உள்ளடக்கத்தில் ஒரு முக்கியமான நடவடிக்கையாகும்.

13. Birth Anniversary of Mangal Pandey – 19 July

• Mangal Pandey was an Indian soldier who played a key part in the events preceding the outbreak of the Great Revolt of 1857. He was a sepoy in the 34^th Bengal Native Infantry regiment of the British East India Company.
• He refused to obey the orders on the parade ground at Barrackpore. He was hanged for this incident.
• This led to increased violence and mutiny against British Rule, which finally culminated in the 1857 revolt.

• மங்கள் பாண்டே ஒரு இந்திய சிப்பாய் ஆவார். அவர் 1857 பெருங்கலகம் வெடிப்பதற்கு முந்தைய நிகழ்வுகளில் முக்கிய பங்கு வகித்தார். அவர் பிரிட்டிஷ் கிழக்கிந்தியக் கம்பெனியின் 34வது வங்காள பூர்வீக காலாட்படை சிப்பாய் ஆவார்.
