NATIONAL

1. DRDO develops an anti-Covid drug known as 2-DG

• The anti-Covid oral drug, 2-DG (2-deoxy-D-glucose) has been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO‘s) laboratory- Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS) in collaboration with Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories.
• 2-DG (2-deoxy-D-glucose) was granted emergency use approval by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) as an adjunct therapy in moderate cases of COVID-19. 
• The anti-COVID drug 2-DG has been developed in powder form and is ingested orally by dissolving it in water. The 2-DG drug is expected to help hospitalised COVID-19 patients and reduce their supplemental oxygen dependence.

2. Kerala’s veteran politician KR Gouri Amma passed away at 102

• Veteran politician KR Gouri Amma passed away at the age of 102 in Thiruvananthapuram. She was the second longest-serving MLAs of the state. She was the first Revenue Minister in the first communist ministry of the state in 1957.

• மூத்த அரசியல்வாதி கே.ஆர். கௌரி அம்மா தனது 102வது வயதில் திருவனந்தபுரத்தில் காலமானார். அவர் மாநிலத்தின் இரண்டாவது நீண்ட கால எம்.எல்.ஏ. ஆவார். இவர் 1957ஆம் ஆண்டு மாநிலத்தின் முதல் கம்யூனிச அமைச்சகத்தில் முதல் வருவாய் அமைச்சராக இருந்தார்.

3. ‘Miyon ka Bara’ railway station in Jodhpur renamed as Mahesh Nagar

• The Miyon ka Bara railway station was renamed as Mahesh Nagar in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Before this, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had approved and changed the name of the village from Miyon ka Bara to Mahesh Nagar and conveyed the decision to the Rajasthan government in 2018.

3. ஜோத்பூரில் உள்ள ‘மியுன் கா பரா‘ ரயில்நிலையம் மகேஷ் நகர் என்று பெயர் மாற்றம் செய்யப்பட்டது

• ராஜஸ்தானின் ஜோத்பூரில் உள்ள மியான் கா பரா ரயில் நிலையம் மகேஷ் நகர் என்று பெயர் மாற்றம் செய்யப்பட்டது. இதற்கு முன்னர், உள்துறை அமைச்சகம் (MHA) மியன் கா பரா என்னும் பெயரை மகேஷ் நகர் என்று அங்கீகரித்து மாற்றியது மற்றும் இந்த முடிவை ராஜஸ்தான் அரசுக்கு 2018இல் தெரிவித்தது.

4. OSIRIS-REx starts its trip back to Earth after collecting samples from the Bennu asteroid

• OSIRIS-REx started its journey back to Earth after collecting samples from the Bennu asteroid.

OSIRIS-REx:

• The OSIRIS-REx(Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security, Regolith Explorer) is the United States’ first asteroid sample return mission. OSIRIS-REx spacecraft was launched in 2016 to collect and return with the first U.S. sample of pristine asteroid materials and it arrived at Bennu in 2018.
• The spacecraft found traces of hydrogen and oxygen molecules in the asteroid and thus the potential for life in Bennu.
• Japan is the only other country to have collected and returned the sample to Earth.

4. ஓசிரிஸ்–ரெக்ஸ் (OSIRIS-Rex) பென்னு சிறுகோளிலிருந்து மாதிரிகள் சேகரித்து பூமிக்கு தனது பயணத்தை தொடங்குகிறது

• ஓசிரிஸ்–ரெக்ஸ் (OSIRIS-Rex – Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security, Regolith Explorer)அமெரிக்காவின் முதல் சிறுகோள் மாதிரி எடுத்துவரும் திட்டமாகும். ஓசிரிஸ்–ரெக்ஸ் விண்கலம் 2016ஆம் ஆண்டில் விண்கற்களின் மாதிரியை சேகரித்து எடுத்துவருவதற்காக முதன்முதலில் அமெரிக்காவால் செலுத்தப்பட்டது, மேலும் அது 2018இல் பென்னுவுக்கு சென்றது.

5. Fourth India-Swiss Financial Dialogue held virtually in New Delhi

• The 4^th India-Swiss Financial Dialogue was held virtually in New Delhi.
• Secretary of Economic Affairs, Ajay Seth led the Indian delegation and Daniela Stoffel, State Secretary of Switzerland held the Swiss delegation.
• India’s policy of non-alignment and Switzerland’s traditional policy of neutrality has led to a close understanding between the two countries.

6. World’s First Artificial Intelligent Ship “Mayflower 400” to navigate across Atlantic

• A team of researchers from the marine research organisation, ProMare with IBM acting as technology partner, built the world’s first intelligent ship known as the Mayflower 400.
• The Artificial Intelligent Ship is completely autonomous. It is a 15 m long trimaran that weighs 9 tons.

6. உலகின் முதல் செயற்கை நுண்ணறிவு கப்பல் “மேஃப்ளவர் 400″ அட்லாண்டிக் முழுவதும் செல்லவிருக்கிறது

7. PESB appoints Arun Kumar Singh as next CMD of BPCL

• The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), has picked Arun Kumar Singh as the chairman and managing director of state-run oil refining and marketing firm Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL).
• He is currently director, marketing at BPCL and holding additional charge of Director, Refineries.

• World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) is released by United Nations.
• The mid-year update of the World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP), United Nations projected that India would be world’s fastest growing major economy in 2022.

Highlights:

• India will be world’s fastest growing major economy in 2022.
• The Indian economy would grow at 5 per cent in 2021 and 10.1 per cent in 2022.
• China has been projected to grow at 8 per cent, a slowdown from 8.2 per cent in 2021.

• உலகப் பொருளாதார நிலைமை மற்றும் வாய்ப்புகள் (WESP) ஐ.நா.வால் வெளியிடப்படுகிறது.

9. IREDA bags ‘Green Urja Award 2021’

• Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA) has been conferred with “Green Urja Award 2021” by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
• IREDA received the award for its developmental role in Green Energy Financing.

• IREDA was established in 1987 as a Non-Banking Financial Institution. It is a Mini Ratna (Category – I) Government Enterprise. It works under the control of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

10. International Nurses Day – 12 May

• International Nurses Day is observed every year on 12 May to honour nurses. The International Council of Nurses (ICN) celebrated the day for the first time in 1965.
• 12 May was chosen to celebrate the day as it is the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, who is the founder of modern nursing. Florence Nightingale Medal is the highest international recognition for nurses.
• Theme 2021: A Voice to Lead – A vision for future healthcare.

10. சர்வதேச செவிலியர் தினம் – 12 மே

• செவிலியர்களை கௌரவிக்கும் வகையில் ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் 12 மே அன்று சர்வதேச செவிலியர் தினம் அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது. சர்வதேச செவிலியர் கவுன்சில் (ICN) 1965இல் முதல் முறையாக இந்த நாளைக் கொண்டாடியது.
• நவீன செவிலியத்தை நிறுவிய புளோரன்ஸ் நைட்டிங்கேலின் பிறந்த நாள் 12 மே என்பதால், இந்த நாள் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டது. புளோரன்ஸ் நைட்டிங்கேல் பதக்கம் செவிலியர்களுக்கான மிக உயர்ந்த சர்வதேச அங்கீகாரம் ஆகும்.
