1. 18 wild elephants found dead in Assam

• In Assam, 18 wild elephants were found dead at Kandali proposed reserve forest. The incident occured due to lightening.

ECONOMY

2. Central government to issue Sovereign Gold Bonds

• The Central government in consultation with the Reserve Bank of India has issued Sovereign Gold Bonds in six tranches between May and September 2021.
• The bond will be on sale through commercial banks, Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited (SHCIL), designated post offices, National Stock Exchange (NSE), and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

Sovereign Gold Bond 2021-22:

• Sovereign Gold bond scheme was launched in November 2015. The bond will be restricted for sale to resident individuals, HUFs, Trusts, Universities, and Charitable Institutions.
• The tenure of the bond will be for eight years with an exit option after the fifth year to be exercised on the next interest payment dates.
• The minimum permissible investment will be 1 gram of gold. The maximum limit of subscription shall be 4 kg for individuals, 4 kg for HUF, and 20 kg for trusts and similar entities per fiscal (April-March).

2. மத்திய அரசு சாவரீன் தங்கப் பத்திரங்களை வெளியிட உள்ளது

• இந்திய ரிசர்வ் வங்கியுடன் மத்திய அரசு மே 2021 முதல் செப்டம்பர் வரை சாவரீன் தங்கப் பத்திரங்களை வெளியிட உள்ளது.
• இந்த பத்திரம் வர்த்தக வங்கிகள், ஸ்டாக் ஹோல்டிங் கார்ப்பரேஷன் ஆஃப் இந்தியா லிமிடெட் (SHCIL), நியமிக்கப்பட்ட தபால் அலுவலகங்கள், தேசிய பங்குச் சந்தை (NSE), மற்றும் மும்பை பங்குச் சந்தை (BSE) மூலம் விற்பனைக்கு வரும்.

இறையாண்மை தங்கப் பத்திரம் 2021-22:

• 2015 நவம்பரில் இறையாண்மை தங்க பத்திரதிட்டம் அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்டது. இங்கு வசிக்கும் தனிநபர்கள், இந்து கூட்டுக்குடும்பங்கள், அறக்கட்டளைகள், பல்கலைக்கழகங்கள் மற்றும் தொண்டு நிறுவனங்களுக்கு மட்டும் விற்பனை இந்த பத்திரங்கள் செய்யப்படும்.
• ஐந்தாவது வருடத்திற்குப் பிறகு அடுத்த வட்டி செலுத்தும் தேதிகளில் பயன்படுத்தப்படும் வெளியேறும் விருப்பத்துடன் பத்திரத்தின் காலஅளவு எட்டு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு இருக்கும்.
• குறைந்தபட்ச அனுமதிக்கப்பட்ட முதலீடு 1 கிராம் தங்கமாக இருக்கும். அதிகபட்ச சந்தா வரம்பு தனிநபர்களுக்கு 4 கிலோ, இந்து கூட்டுக்குடும்பங்களுக்கு 4 கிலோ, மற்றும் அறக்கட்டளைகள் மற்றும் இதே போன்ற நிறுவனங்களுக்கு 20 கிலோ (ஏப்ரல்-மார்ச்) ஆகும்.

3. Dard Tribe in Aryan Valley preserved Dard Culture for centuries despite several challenges

• Aryan Valley of Ladakh is different from the rest of the union territory.
• Aryan Valley is home to Buddhist Dard Tribe who speak Dardi language. Dardi is sub language of Indo-Aryan language. The culture of the Dard tribe is known as Aryan culture.
• Tourism Department has started Arayan Festival to promote tourism in the valley.

• ஆரிய பள்ளத்தாக்கு டார்டி மொழியைப் பேசும் புத்த டார்ட் பழங்குடியினரின் தாயகமாக உள்ளது. டார்டி என்பது இந்தோ-ஆரிய மொழியின் துணை மொழியாகும். டார்ட் பழங்குடியினரின் கலாச்சாரம் ஆரிய கலாச்சாரம் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.
• இந்த பள்ளத்தாக்கில் சுற்றுலாவை மேம்படுத்துவதற்காக சுற்றுலாத் துறை அரையன் திருவிழாவைத் தொடங்கியுள்ளது.

4. SWAMIH completes its first residential project

• Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman handed over the possession of the first residential project of Centre’s Special Window for Affordable and Mid-Income Housing (SWAMIH) to home buyers virtually.
• Rivali Park is located in suburban Mumbai. It was the first housing project in India to have received funding under the SWAMIH Fund. The SWAMIH Fund was launched by the Union Fnance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in November 2019.

5. Uttarakhand Police launches ‘Mission Hausla’ to help covid patients

• The Uttarakhand Police has launched a drive called “Mission Hausla” to help people get oxygen, beds, ventilators, and plasma for COVID-19 patients.
• The Uttarakhand Police will also help the public get medicines meant for COVID-19 management as part of the mission.

5. கோவிட் நோயாளிகளுக்கு உதவ உத்தரகாண்ட் போலீஸ் ‘மிஷன் ஹவுஸ்லா’வை தொடங்கியது

• கோவிட்-19 நோயாளிகளுக்கு ஆக்ஸிஜன், படுக்கைகள், வென்டிலேட்டர்கள் மற்றும் பிளாஸ்மா ஆகியவற்றைப் பெற மக்களுக்கு உதவும் வகையில் உத்தரகாண்ட் காவல்துறை “மிஷன் ஹவுஸ்லா” என்ற இயக்கத்தை தொடங்கியுள்ளது.
• இந்த இயக்கத்தின் ஒரு பகுதியாக கோவிட்-19 நிர்வாகத்திற்கான மருந்துகளை பொதுமக்கள் பெற உத்தரகாண்ட் காவல்துறை உதவும்.

6. KP Sharma Oli re-appointed as the Prime Minister of Nepal

• Nepal President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has re-appointed KP Sharma Oli as the Prime Minister of Nepal as opposition parties led by Sher Bahadur Deuba failed to prove the majority to form,a new government.
• Oli had lost a trust vote in the House of Representatives on 10 May 2021. He will have 30 days to prove that he has majority support in the House.

6. நேபாள பிரதமராக கேபி சர்மா ஒலி மீண்டும் நியமனம்

• ஷெர் பகதூர் தியூபா தலைமையிலான எதிர்க்கட்சிகள் புதிய அரசாங்கத்தை அமைக்க பெரும்பான்மையை நிரூபிக்கத் தவறியதால் நேபாள அதிபர் பித்யா தேவி பண்டாரி கேபி, ஷர்மா ஒலியை நேபாள பிரதமராக மீண்டும் நியமிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார்.
• 10 மே 2021 அன்று மக்களவையில் நடந்த நம்பிக்கை வாக்கெடுப்பில் ஒலி தோல்வியடைந்தார். சபையில் தனக்கு பெரும்பான்மை ஆதரவு இருப்பதை நிரூபிக்க அவருக்கு 30 நாட்கள் உள்ளது.

7. Elisabetta Belloni becomes the first woman to head the Italy secret service

• Elisabetta Belloni has been named the first woman to lead Italy’s secret services. Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi announced Elisabetta Belloni as the head of the Department of Information Security (DIS).

8. China becomes the world’s first country to ban synthetic cannabinoids

• China will become the world’s first country to ban all synthetic cannabinoid substances. The ban is likely to come into effect on 1 July 2021. The move comes as China tries to curb the manufacturing and trafficking of the drug.
• Synthetic cannabinoids are found in e-cigarette oil, and some are found in cut tobacco made from leaves, flower petals, etc.,

11. Ajanta Neog becomes the first woman Finance Minister of Assam

• Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, allocated the finance portfolio to Ajanta Neog, making her the first woman Finance Minister of Assam.
• She was elected to the state Assembly from the Golaghat assembly constituency in eastern Assam and also held the social welfare portfolio.

12. National Endangered Species Day – 14 May

• National Endangered Species Day is observed every year on the third Friday of May. This year (2021) falls on 14 May. The day is to raise awareness about endangered species and wildlife. The first International Endangered Species Day was first celebrated in 2006.

• Basava Jayanthi marks the birthday of the 12^th-century saint Basavanna of Karnataka. He worked to develop a casteless society.
• The Veerashaiva Lingayats, classified as a Hindu sub-caste, are the Lingayats who follow Basavanna. They are one among the community demanding reservation in Karnataka.
