Manonmaiam Sundaranar University – Free Education to Transgender:

 
Manonmaiam Sundaranar University (MSU) in Tirunelveli has announced that all institutions under its fold would provide free education to transgender from this academic year. MSU claims to be the first university in India to come forward to offer free education to transgender. The university allotted one seat under each courses of U.G and P.G for transgender. The initiative is the only hope for those people to become free of social discrimination.

South Korea test fires 800km range missile:

 
South Koreas has successfully test-fired a new 800-km range missile that can reach anywhere in North Korea. It could send another strong warning message to North Korea which is continuing its nuclear missile programme.


India ranks 9th among 41 countries in corruption in businesses: Survey

 

 
India ranks ninth among 41 countries in bribery and corrupt practices in businesses, according to the findings of a recent EY Europe, Middle East, India and Africa (EMEIA) Fraud Survey 2017

    India ranks behind Ukraine, Cyprus, Greece, Slovenia, Croatia, Kenya, South Africa and Hungary, in the perception survey. The survey find in 2015 when India was at the sixth position, owing to better regulatory scrutiny and emphasis on transparency and governance.


India, Russia seal deal on Kudankulam Unit 1:

    India has taken over full operational control of Unit 1 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP). India signed a joint statement with Russia on the final takeover of the unit, formally marking the full transition. The agreement was signed between representatives of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. and the ASE Group of Companies, a subsidiary of ROSATOM State Atomic Energy Corporation of Russia.


India jumps 12 spots in World Economic Forum’s global travel & tourism ranking:

 
India has jumped 12 places to 40th rank globally in travel and tourism competitiveness list by World Economic Forum.

    India is one of the countries that improved the most as it gained 12 places in Asia, but lagged behind its other Asian peers like Japan and China which were ranked way ahead at 4th and 13th place, respectively. Spain is ranked at the top in the list.

RBI holds policy rate, hikes reverse repo rate:

 
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept the key policy rate or the repo rate, unchanged in the first bimonthly policy review of 2017-18 but narrowed the policy corridor by 25 bps by raising the reverse repo rate to 6%, from 5.75%.


ADB scales down India’s growth to 7.4% for FY18:

 
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced it had cut India’s economic growth projection to 7.4 per cent for 2017-18, from an earlier estimate of 7.8 per cent.

    The earlier estimate was issued in March 2016, well before demonetisation and its effect. At 7.4 per cent, though, India will continue to be the fastest-growing major economy in the world.

    China’s economic expansion is projected by ADB at 6.5 per cent in 2017, from 6.7 per cent in 2016. 


Tencent becomes 10th biggest company:

 
Tencent Holdings, a Chinese internet titan best known for its WeChat messaging service and gaming, has overtaken Wells Fargo by market value, joining the likes of Apple and Alphabet in the ranks of the world’s biggest publicly traded companies.

Misbah-ul-Haq bids farewell to Test Cricket:

 
Pakistan’s most successful skipper Misbah-ul-Haq will retire after the upcoming Test series against the West Indies, He said “The series against the West Indies is my last”. In 2016, Misbah also became the first Pakistani to play 50 matches as Test captain in a Test series against New Zealand.


Chennai City FC connects with Finnish Club:

 
Chennai City FC signed a long term co-operation agreement with Finnish club JS Hercules. It the first-ever agreement signed between Finland and India. The partnership includes off-season opportunities including education and work placements for the players and staff of both clubs.


PV Sindhu is World No.2:

 
Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu reached her career-best world number two ranking in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings. She thus became the second Indian woman after Saina Nehwal to break into the top-five of the world rankings by earning 75759 points.

Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying continues to top the ranking. Japan’s Akane Yamugachi, who was number two, has been pushed to the third spot.
