Gurgaon to get 1,000 new e-ricks at 5 Metro stations:

To aid safe last-mile connectivity in Gurgaon, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in collaboration with Smart-E company will launch 1,000 e-rickshaws at five metro stations across the city.

The Smart-E started operations in New Delhi from the Madipur metro station at Paschim Vihar in October 2016.

Five banks of BRICS nations sign pact for credit lines: report

Five banks of the BRICS Bank Cooperation Mechanism have agreed to establish credit lines in the national currencies and cooperate on credit ratings.

The agreement was signed ahead of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit in China’s Xiamen city in which leaders of the five countries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi are scheduled to take part.

Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), Vnesheconombank, Export-Import Bank of India, China Development Bank and Development Bank of South Africa (DBSA) have signed an agreement to establish credit lines in the national currencies, as well as a memorandum of cooperation on credit ratings.

Ahead of the BRICS summit, the New Development Bank (NDB) of the five nations has approved $1.4 billion loans for sustainable development projects in China, India and Russia.

For India, the Bank has approved USD 470 million loan for Madhya Pradesh’s Multi-Village Rural Drinking Water Supply Scheme Project


Nepal signs United Nations development assistance plan:

          Nepal has signed a USD 635 million UN assistance package for 2018-2022 to lay out the country’s development strategy for the next five years.

The package involving 26 individual UN agencies, spans interventions aimed at assisting in four broad areas: inclusive economic growth; social development; resilience, climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction; and governance, rule of law and human rights, according to a statement issued by the United Nations.

The National Planning Commission, apex advisory body of the Government of Nepal, and the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Nepal signed the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF).

Fincare Small Finance Bank starts operations with 25 branches:

 

Fincare Small Finance Bank (previously known as Disha Microfin Limited) on Friday kick-started its banking operations with about 25 operational branches across Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The bank was given final small finance bank (SFB) licence from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in May this year.

Trump names Ken Juster as new US ambassador to India:

 

The United States announced the name of economic policy maker and expert on India, Kenneth I Juster, as the next US ambassador to India.Juster, who is the Deputy Assistant to US President Donald Trump for International Economic Affairs and Deputy Director of his National Economic Council, would replace Richard Verma, if nominated and confirmed by the Senate.

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

First hints of water on TRAPPIST-1 planets:

 

An international team of astronomers used the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope to estimate whether there might be water on the seven earth-sized planets orbiting the nearby dwarf star TRAPPIST-1. The results suggest that the outer planets of the system might still harbor substantial amounts of water. This includes the three planets within the habitable zone of the star, lending further weight to the possibility that they may indeed be habitable.

Hyderabad airport bags energy efficiency award:

 

Hyderabad International Airport Ltd has bagged the National Award for ‘Excellence’ in Energy Management at a conference hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

The event held focused on recognising companies that are engaged in energy efficiency initiatives and displaying commitment towards energy conservation.GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) is a company promoted as a joint venture comprising the GMR Group (63%) in partnership with Government of India (13%), Government of Telangana (13%) and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (11%).

Star India wins IPL media rights for next five years:

Star India bagged the IPL media rights for TV and digital broadcast worth Rs.16,347.50 crore with a single consolidated bid worldwide. It pipped Sony to acquire the rights from 2018 to 2022.

After a long technical evaluation, it was announced by BCCI CEO Rahul Johri that for broadcast rights, Star and Sony had emerged as eligible candidates while Times Internet, Reliance Jio, Airtel and Facebook could rightfully bid for digital acquisition. However, it was later revealed that Star had launched a consolidated bid and was declared winner.

World labour Day: September 4th

Labour Day (Labor Day in the United States) is an annual holiday to celebrate the achievements of workers. Labour Day has its origins in the labour union movement, specifically the eight-hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.

In Canada and the United States, Labour Day is celebrated on the first Monday of September and considered the unofficial end of summer, with summer vacations ending and students returning to school around then.
