Odisha’s first MITS Mega Food Park inaugurated:

Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal inaugurated Odisha’s first Mega Food Park at an investment of Rs 80.17 crore to benefit tribal farmers. This is the 7th Mega Food Park operationalized in the last 3 years.

The MITS Mega Food Park at Rayagada will generate an annual turnover of about Rs 500 crore and provide employment for 5,000 people and benefit 25,000 farmers.

 Stamp on noted playwright Balwant Gargi released:

A stamp on noted playwright and theatre director late Balwant Gargi was released. BJP leader and Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher released the stamp on the commemoration of Balwant Gargi centenary by the Punjab University,

    On the occasion, the stamps of two other writers Krishan Chander and Bhisham Sahni, who are also the Punjab University (PU) alumni.

The Indian Railways has introduced ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ service for passengers to book tickets online first and make payment for the reservations within a window of 15 days.

The facility, which allows passengers to travel after five days of booking the ticket, is available for confirmed, waitlisted, and Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) berths.

 Government doctors in UP to retire at 62:

    Facing shortage of government doctors, leaving many community health and primary health centres  without doctors, the Yogi government approved increasing the superannuation age for the provincial medical services (PMS) doctors from earlier 60 to 62. UP Cabinet approved the proposal, UP government spokesman and health minister Siddharth Nath Singh.

Telangana Launches T-Wallet, Becoming ‘First State to With Official E-Wallet’:

The Telangana state launched the newly-created T-Wallet, the official digital wallet of the state, offering anytime anywhere platform for digital payments with no additional charge for the citizens.

This is the first official e-wallet from any state government in India. It uses two factor authentications, via Aadhaar+Biometric or Aadhaar+OTP.


Odisha to get first automatic coastal warning system in India:

    Odisha will be able to warn its coastal population by pressing a single button from a control room in the Odisha capital in the event of natural disasters from July.

 

 


Prithvi-II missile successfully test-fired:

India successfully test-fired it’s indigenously developed nuclear-capable Prithvi-II missile from a test range in Odisha as part of a user trial by the Army.

It is surface to surface missile with strike range of 350km and capable of carrying 500kg to 1000kg of warheads by liquid propulsion twin engines.


Maharashtra Launches ‘Mahaswayam’, Web Portal for Job Seekers And Employers:

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched a web portal ‘Mahaswayam’ that will cater to job seekers, employers, entrepreneurs, and training institutes who can avail details regarding skill development and employment.

Earlier, the state government ran 3 different portals Maharashtra State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) portal, ‘Maharojgar’ for employment and ‘Mahaswayamrojgar’ for entrepreneurship. These three have now been merged into ‘Mahaswayam’, making it easier for all beneficiaries as well as the state to keep a track of the demand and supply of workforce.

‘Ralang Road’ to compete at Karlovy Vary Film Festival:

Nepali-Hindi film “Ralang Road” will represent India at the 52nd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival at Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic. It was directed by Karma Takapa and produced by HumanTrail Pictures.

 


India, Pakistan to become full SCO members at Astana summit:

    India and Pakistan admission as full members to the Beijing-based Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) will be formalised at the political and security grouping’s summit in Kazakhstan at next week.

India, Russia signed nuclear plant pact:

    India and Russia signed an agreement on setting up of two more units of a nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu and decided to give a “new direction” to the defence cooperation between the two “great powers”.

The two countries also decided to hold the first triServices exercises named ‘Indra-2017’ from this year and start joint manufacturing of frigates and coproduction of Kamov-226 military helicopters.


Arun Jaitley to attend AIIB annual meet in Korea:

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will attend the annual meeting of China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to be held in mid-June in South Korea. This year meeting is being co-hosted by the Bank and Korea and will be held in Jeju Island.

India signs loan agreement with the World Bank for USD 36 Million:

    The programme size is USD 45 million in which IBRD Credit of USD 36 Million from World Bank and the remaining amount will be funded out of State Budget for Himachal Pradesh Public Financial Management Capacity Building Program was signed in New Delhi by Shri Raj Kumar, Joint Secretary (MI), Department of Economic Affairs and Mr. Junaid Kamal Ahmad, Country Director, World Bank (India).

The objective of the project is to improve the efficiency of Public Expenditure Management and Tax Administration in Himachal Pradesh.


India loses fastest growing economy tag:

India’s GDP (Gross domestic product) grew 6.1 % year-on-year during the January-March (4th quarter) period by government report. With this, India loses its status of the world’s fastest growing economy to China’s with their GDP grew 6.9% during the same quarter.

 


SREI to ink $500 million venture with Russia VEB:

 

India’s SREI Infrastructure Finance about to sign a $500 million joint venture with Russian state lender VEB (Vnesheconombank) to finance exports of equipment to India.

 

 


Airtel-Telenor merger gets SEBI approval:

    Bharti Airtel Ltd received approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the country’s top exchanges Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) to merge Telenor (India) Communications Pvt. Ltd with itself.

 


India ranked 137th in the 11th Global Peace Index while Iceland topped the list:

    Iceland has been named the world’s most peaceful country, topping the Global Peace Index for the tenth consecutive year.

New Zealand and Portugal completed the top three while India has ranked 137th out of 163 countries in the list published by the Institute of Economics and Peace.

 


RBI to implement the Legal Entity Identifier system:

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said it will implement the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) system for all participants in the over-the-counter markets for rupee interest rate derivatives, foreign currency derivatives and credit derivatives in India in a phased manner.

  • LEI code: 20-character unique code.

 

 


SEBI bars Cypress Money from acting as investment advisor

  Markets regulator SEBI barred Cypress Money Investment Advisor and its three partners from acting as investment advisors and research analyst after finding them guilty of providing unauthorised trading tips to investors.

Ananya Vinay wins the 2017 U.S. Scripps National Spelling Bee:

    Ananya Vinay from California won the Scripps National Spelling Bee with $40,000 cash prize. Vinay correctly spelled the word “marocain” to win the spelling bee held at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in suburban Washington.

The UN General Assembly elected Slovak foreign minister Miroslav Lajcak to be the next president of the 193-member powerful body.

    Lajcak, 54, was elected by acclamation as President of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly  at a special session on Sep 12th, 2017.

Chinese Smartphone maker Vivo has signed on to sponsor the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups. The amount of deal didn’t disclose by either side.

 


Cricket South Africa launched new T20 Global league:

    Cricket South Africa unveiled a logo of the new T20 Global League tournament. The league, similar to IPL, will have eight city-based franchises and will be played in late 2017 with the final on Dec. 16.
