Prime Minister launches Umang app
As an initiative to promote the Digital India program, Prime Minister launched an one-in-all app called Umang. Umang-an acronym for “unified mobile app for new-age governance. It currently hosts around 162 services from 33 government departments of central and state governments.
The app has been developed by the ministry of electronics and information technology (MEITY) and National e-Governance Division (NeGD) in order to drive Mobile Governance in India.Umang will be providing integration with various other services such as PayGov in near future.
Safe City Plan for Women in Eight Cities by Union Government
Union Government will start ‘safe city’ plan for women in eight metropolitan cities of the country.The Safe city plan will serve as strong emergency response system and provides police-verified public transport will come into place.
The eight cities are Delhi,Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Lucknow, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.The process was started on the occasion of Steering Committee meeting chaired by Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba.
These include ‘Himmat’ app, all women patrol van, ‘Shishtachar’ programme of the Delhi police; ‘Hawkeye’ mobile app; ‘Bharosa’ programme of the Hyderabad police; ‘Suraksha’ app of the Bengaluru police, and ‘Power Angels’ of Uttar Pradesh police.
West Bengal government framed Hill Area Development Committee headed by Mann Ghising
The Home and Hill Affairs Department has constituted a “Hill Area Development Committee” for Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts.
The new committee will supervise all the development works in Darjeeling and Kalimpong.The Hill Area Development Committee will be headed by Mann Ghising, president of Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF),Mahendra Chettri as Vice-Chairperson; Ajoy Edwards and Shubhomoy Chatterjee as members.

Samsung and UP govt sets ‘Smart Healthcare Programme’
Samsung India, a subsidiary of the South Korea-based electronics major has partnered with the Uttar Pradesh government to set-up 20 new smart healthcare centres across the state to provide health care equipments.
The objective of the tie up is to offer affordable and quality healthcare to patients from the economically and socially weaker sections of society.
Samsung will provide ultrasound and digital radiology (x-ray) machines manufactured by the firm along with a LED TV, air conditioner and refrigerator to selected government hospitals across Uttar Pradesh.

Canara Bank unveils Canarites app and digital library
Canara Bank celebrated its Founder’s Day by launching several initiatives and benefits for its staff. It includes a Canarites app, a digital library, a field recovery mobile app, a retail loan (vehicle) – tracking system, and a regulatory guidance tracking system were launched.

Asia Pacific Screen Awards held in Brisbane, Australia
Bollywood movie ‘Newton’ secured two wins at APSA.Rajkummar Rao won the Best Actor award for his performance in Newton.Mayank Tewari and Amit V. Masurkar secured the best screenplay honour.
India’s Lady of the Lake directed by Haobam Paban Kumar won a special mention in the Cultural Diversity Award under the Patronage of UNESCO category.
Newton will also represent India in the Best Foreign Language category at the 90th Academy Awards.

Five Indian films nominated for ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Medal
The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) has nominated nine movies for this year’s International Council for Film, Television and Audiovisual Communication (ICFT) UNESCO Gandhi Medal. All 9 films are being screened at the ongoing IFFI in Panaji, Goa.The Award will be given to a film that best reflects Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of peace, tolerance and non-violence.
The Indian films competing for the prestigious ICFT UNESCO Gandhi Medal among nine films are Kshitij – A Horizon, Manusangada, Poorna, Railway Children and Take-Off.
The foreign films in the fray are Amok from Poland, Khibula – a co-production of Germany, France and Georgia, The Last Painting from Taiwan and Women of The Weeping River – a joint production of the US and UK.

First Female Pilot in Indian Navy
Shubhangi Swaroop became the first-ever female pilot in the Indian Navy.She will be flying a maritime reconnaissance aircraft.
She has been appointed in the Naval Armament Inspection (NAI) branch after pilot training at Dundigal Air Force Academy near Hyderabad.
She completed her studies in Indian Naval Academy’s first batch of female officers.She belongs to Bareilly, a district in Uttarpradesh.

First Indian casino game training course centre in Goa
The casino game training courses were set up in 2013 as a part of Delta Corp Limited’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Goa.Anil Malani, President Delta Corp Ltd said that, they have a designated batch of 20 courses which is absolutely free.
After passing the course, most of the students get recruited in premier hotels like Hyatt or Taj.
The state government-recognised courses are either in diploma – which runs through a year or certified – that ends in six months.
