NATIONAL

Cabinet approves setting up of Central Tribal University in Andhra Pradesh

The Union cabinet has approved setting up of ‘Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh’.

The proposed university will come up after necessary amendment in the Central Universities Act.

The ‘Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh’ will be set up in Relli village of Vizianagaram District as provided under the Thirteenth Schedule to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.

Cabinet has also approved the provision of funds of Rs 4.2 billion for the first phase expenditure.


25th SIMBEX commences in Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal

The 25th edition of SIMBEX starts from Nov 10-21 off Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal.

SIMBEX 2018 will be the largest edition since 1994 in terms of scale and complexity. To mark the historical occasion, both navies are undertaking exercises over an extended geography.

The initial harbour phase will be held at Port Blair, the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands from 10 to 12 November followed by Sea Phase from Nov 12-16 in the Andaman Sea. The second harbour phase from Nov 16-19 will be held at Visakhapatnam – ‘the City of Destiny’.


K9 Vajra and M777 Howitzer Guns Inducted into Indian Army

Three new artillery guns and equipment, including the powerful K9 Vajra and M777 howitzers, were inducted into the Indian Army at the Deolali artillery centre in Nashik.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman formally inducted the weapons in Nashik.

This is the first major induction since the Bofors were inducted in the 1980s. While M777 howitzers are US-made light weight guns, the K9 Vajras are South Korea-made self-propelled artillery guns.

The entire process of inducting 100 K9 Vajra at a cost of Rs 4,366 crore will be completed by November 2020.


Vice President inaugurates Indian War Memorial in France

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu embarked on a three-day visit to France.

He will be representing India at the Paris Peace Forum being held to commemorate the centenary of the end to the First World War.

The main ceremony at Arc de Triomphe monument in Paris will be presided over by the French President Emmanuel Macron.

The aim of Paris Peace Forum is to establish a global platform to reaffirm the importance of multilateralism, international cooperation and reform of global governance institutions.

Besides, the Vice President will inaugurate Indian War Memorial at Villers Guislain, constructed by India. The memorial highlights the contribution of Indian soldiers. India was one of the largest contributors of soldiers during World War 1.


CCEA approves Strategic Sale of Government Equity in Dredging Corporation Of India

The Union Cabinet has approved strategic sale of government stake in Dredging Corporation of India to consortium of four ports.

The government currently holds 73.44 per cent in Dredging Corporation of India Ltd(DCIL). Dredging Corporation of India Limited, or DCI, is a Miniratna Indian public sector unit engaged in the business of dredging. DCI does dredging for Indian seaports exclusively.

The ports are Visakhapatnam Port Trust, Paradip Port Trust, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust and Kandla Port Trust.

The government has budgeted to raise Rs 80,000 crore from PSU disinvestment. So far this fiscal, the government has mopped up over Rs 15,000 crore from PSU stake sale.

Nokia inks pact with Infosys to drive enterprise digital transformation

Finnish mobile telecom network maker Nokia and Indian IT services firm Infosys have formed an alliance to develop solutions powered by new-age technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).

The partnership will help drive digital transformation in a wide array of enterprises and industries, addressing vertical markets, including transportation, energy and manufacturing, media and entertainment, and education.

This collaboration will couple technology, products and services from Nokia with platform solutions, engineering and operations management expertise from Infosys.


SPORTS

Manu Bhaker, Saurabh Chaudhary set new world record to win mixed event gold at Asian Airgun Championships

Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary set the junior world record by winning the 10m air pistol mixed team gold medal in the 11th Asian Airgun Championships.

India’s junior shooting squad thus ended the championship with a tally of 11 medals, including four gold.

Youth Olympic Games champions Manu and Saurabh finished with a score of 485.4 in the final, well ahead of the Chinese who managed 477.9.

A second Chinese team won bronze while India’s second pair in the finals, Abhidnya Patil and Anmol Jain, finished fourth.

World Science Day for Peace and Development – November 10

The UNESCO World Science Day for Peace and Development, celebrated on 10 November each year.

The theme for 2018 is “Science, a Human Right”, in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (art. 27), and of the Recommendation on Science and Scientific Researchers.


World legal service day-Nov 9

Legal Services Day is used to celebrate to make all the people aware of the Functions and their activities are done by the Legal Services in the Country.

The 9th of November is selected as the Legal Services Day which was first started by the Supreme Court in the year 1995 all across the India to offer help and support to the weaker and poor group of sections of people.
