Soon all our wallet is going to be colourful. After demonetisation in 2016, our government released 2000, 500, 200, 50 colourful rupees note. Since , we have seen the introduction of banknotes in florescent blue and bright yellow colour notes. Now in that row, Reserve Bank of India is reportedly all set to issue new Rs 10 denomination banknotes under the Mahatma Gandhi series with chocolate brown colour as the base. The new design was approved by the government just last week but around one billion pieces of the banknote has already been printed by the apex bank according to news reports. Here’s all you need to know about these new currency notes.
Here are the features that will be seen on the new Rs 10 note:

- See through register with denominational numeral 10
- Denominational numeral ’10’ written in Devnagari
- Portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at the centre
- Micro letters ‘RBI’, ‘INDIA’, and ’10’, along with ‘Bharat’ in Devnagari
- Windowed demetalised security thread with inscriptions ‘Bharat’ in Devnagari and RBI
- Guarantee Clause, signature of RBI Governor Urjit Patel with Promise Clause and RBI emblem towards right of Mahatma Gandhi portrait
- Ashoka Pillar emblem on the right
- Mahatma Gandhi portrait and electrotype (10) watermarks
- Number panel with numerals growing from small to big on the top left side and bottom right side

The older Rs 10 notes from the previous series will continue to be legal tender, though. Meanwhile, RBI is also emphasising on getting more of its new notes in circulation. The central bank recently ordered banks to expedite recalibrating their ATMs to dispense new Rs 200 notes. The Rs 100 note, the only currency note to be overhauled, will also get design changes, reportedly next year.
