Harsimrat Kaur Badal inaugurates state of art railway station at Sultanpur Lodhi in Punjab

Union Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal inaugurated the state of the art new railway station along with a multi media centre at Sultanpur Lodhi in Punjab.

The railway station modelled on Sikh architecture has been engineered to facilitate pilgrims visiting the holy city. It is built at a cost of 25 crore rupees. Later Ms Badal inaugurated the multi media centre and watched the 15-min documentary on Guru Nanak Dev ji’s life.

The Minister also released a book on the life and teachings of Shri Guru Nank Dev ji to commemorate Guru Sahab’s 550th Prakash Purb. She also disclosed that the National Book Trust had published three titles – Guru Nanak Bani, Nanak Bani and Sakhian Guru Nanak Dev – to spread the message of Guru’s message.

India To Host “No Money For Terror” Conference Next Year

India will host the next edition of the ”No Money For Terror” conference to be held in 2020, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said.
The announcement was made at the ”No Money For Terror” conference in Melbourne, Australia.
The ”No Money For Terror” conference is organised by Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) of over 100 countries, jointly called The Egmont Group.

25th Kolkata International Film Festival begins

The 25th Kolkata International Film Festival began with the screening of Satyajit Ray-directed ‘Gupi Gayen, Bagha Bayen’ film. Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan inaugurated the eight-day festival at a glittering function at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in the city in presence of a galaxy of cine personalities and dignitaries of cultural and sports field.

Mr Khan said that, the Kolkata Film Festival is an important benchmark and milestone for the film industry.
Noted film director Mahesh Bhatt referred the contribution of Bengal’s Movies in the national perspective.
He said that festival reflects the language of others defying those who tell to speak only on their language.

Ayodhya Verdict Explained: Ram Mandir to be built; Hindus get Disputed Land; Alternate land for Muslims

Ayodhya Verdict on Ram Janmabhoomi Babri Masjid land dispute has been pronounced by the Supreme Court of India. As per the verdict, Hindus get the disputed Ayodhya Land; and Muslims to get an alternate land.
The Supreme Court judgement has paved the way for the construction of Ram Mandir on the land which was long disputed and was claimed by five different parties.
The verdict comes after 9 years of Allahabad High Court Judgement, wherein, it divided the land among three parties – Ram Lalla, Sunni Waqf Board and the Nirmohi Akhara.
However, the Supreme Court has now scrapped the high court ruling by giving the complete disputed land to Hindus and rejecting the claim of Waqf Board and Nirmohi akhara.

Piyush Goyal to participate in 9th BRICS Trade Ministers Meet in Brasilia Commerce and Industry Minister to meet USTR in Washington

Commerce and Industry and Railway Minister, Piyush Goyal, will be on tour to Brazil and United States. On the first leg of his visit the Commerce and Industry Minister will attend 9th BRICS Trade Ministers Meet in Brasilia, Brazil, on the 11th of November 2019.
Discussions at the 9th BRICS Trade Ministers Meet will be focussed on opportunities for enhanced intra-BRICS trade and investment cooperation. Issues like cooperation in e-commerce, investment facilitation, MSMEs, Intellectual Property Right, will be discussed during the meet. Deliberations on the current global economic and trade environment, challenges facing the multilateral trading system, ways of advancing the BRICS trade and investment cooperation will also take place.
Another important outcome of the Ministerial meeting under the current Brazilian Presidency is the signing of an MoU among Trade and Investment Promotion Agencies of BRICS countries, which will help foster close collaboration between the trade and investment promotion agencies of BRICS nations for promoting intra BRICS trade and investment.

MPC for MILAN 2020 Concludes at Visakhapatnam

The Mid Planning Conference (MPC) for MILAN exercise concluded at Visakhapatnam.
The three-day conference was attended by 29 delegates from 17 friendly Foreign Navies. Delivering the Opening Address, Commodore Sanjiv Issar, Commodore Milan briefed on the broad programme of MILAN 2020 scheduled to be conducted at Visakhapatnam in Mar 2020.
The scope of exercise planned during the harbour and sea phase of MILAN 2020 was discussed in detail with the delegates of the participating countries during the conference.

Cyclone Bulbul: Danger signal 7 for Mongla and Payra ports

Bangladesh Meteorological Department has asked maritime ports of Mongla and Payra to hoist danger signal number seven, and port of Chittagong to hoist danger signal number six, due to the intensified very severe cyclonic storm Bulbul.
Bulbul, situated over west-central bay and adjoining east-central bay moved northwards, intensified further and now lies over northwest bay and adjoining west-central bay.

Indian Navy – Indonesian Navy Bilateral Maritime Exercise ‘Samudra Shakti Progresses in the Bay of Bengal

INS Kamorta, an Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette is jointly exercising with Indonesian Warship KRI Usman Harun, a multi-role Corvette in the Bay of Bengal as part of the ongoing Indian Navy – Indonesian Navy Bilateral Exercise ‘Samudra Shakti’.
The joint exercises include manoeuvres, Surface Warfare exercises, Air Defence exercises, Weapon firing drills, Helicopter Operations and Boarding Operations. KRI Usman Harun arrived Visakhapatnam to participate in the second edition Ex ‘Samudra Shakti’.

RBI imposes Rs 5 lakh fine on Oxigen Services

The Reserve Bank has imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on prepaid payment instrument Oxigen Services.
The RBI said that the move was taken in exercise of powers vested under Section 30 of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, for non-compliance of regulatory guidelines.
Oxigen Services facilitates payment processing and money transfer services.

GeM Partners with Central Bank of India for Payment Related Services

Government e-Marketplace (GeM) signed MoU with Central Bank of India. Through this partnership, Central Bank of India will be able to offer an array of services including transfer of funds through GeM Pool Accounts (GPA), advising of electronic Performance Bank Guarantees (e-PBG) and Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) to the registered users on the portal.
The MOU was signed by Rajeev Kandpal, CFO, GeM and A.K. Mishra, Field General Manager,Central Bank of India in the presence of Talleen Kumar, CEO, GeM.

Stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma became the first Indian man and second in world cricket to complete 100 T-20 Internationals.
He reached the milestone when he led the team in the second match against Bangladesh at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium.
Shoaib Malik with 111 games from Pakistan is the only player to have played more than 100 T20 Internationals.
Rohit is currently the top-scorer in this format with 2452 runs with regular skipper Virat Kohli second in the list with an aggregate of 2450 runs.

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javedkar inaugurated Light and Sound show at Amritsar depicting life and teachings of Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji. The show will be organised daily till November 12.
Earlier, Mr Javadekar and Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal inaugurated a multimedia exhibition on Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s life and teachings at Sultanpur Lodhi.

Guinness World Record of most students assembling radio kits simultaneously created at IISF, Kolkata

A Guinness World Record of most students assembling radio kits simultaneously was created on the third day of India International Science Festival at Kolkata.
The organising committee of the Festival said while 490 students participated in the event, a record 268 succeeded in completing the assembling process in the stipulated hours
A representative of the Guinness World Records presented a certificate and memento to Union Minister of Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan who took it on behalf of the students.

Bajaj Allianz General Insurance has launched a new mobile app called ‘Farmitra’ for the ease of farmers.
This app intends to help the farmers needs and address their worries.
It also resolves with relevant information, which they can use in optimizing their farming practices.
The app ‘Farmitra‘ provides services for even those who are not customers of Bajaj Allianz.
Besides crop insurance, the farmers can buy other covers from the private insurer and also obtain information like weather forecasts and market price of crops and locators for agriculture inputs.

Exim Bank gives $30 million line of credit to Ghana

The Export-Import (Exim) Bank has provided a $30 million line of credit to Ghana for potable water project in the country.
Exim Bank has entered into an agreement with Ghana for a line of credit (LoC) of $30 million (about Rs 210 crore) for financing rehabilitation and up-gradation of potable water system in Yendi, Ghana.

Indian Bank has signed a memorandum of understanding with Muthoot Microfinance to serve micro, small and medium enterprises.

Public sector Indian Bank has signed a memorandum of understanding with Muthoot Microfinance to serve micro, small and medium enterprises.
“Under the memorandum of understanding, the bank and the non-banking finance company will jointly lend to the MSME borrowers,”.
Indian Bank general manager-MSME Sudhakar Rao exchanged documents with Muthoot Microfin deputy CFO Praveen T in the presence of the bank’s managing director and CEO Padmaja Chunduru.

Google India appoints former Star and Disney head Sanjay Gupta as new Country Manager

Google India has appointed Sanjay Gupta, former Star and Disney head as its new country manager.
Gupta will also serve as Vice President of Sales and Operations for India. Gupta will be replacing Rajan Anandan, the VP for Google South East Asia and India, who had resigned in April 2019.
Anandan was replaced by Vikas Agnihotri, Google’s director of sales, who took on the role of Google Interim MD.

India Justice Report 2019: Maharashtra holds top, UP ranks bottom

According to ‘India Justice Report 2019’, Maharashtra is the top state in delivering justice to its citizens followed by Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Haryana in the first-ever ranking of states on their capacity to deliver justice to citizens.
The list of seven small states (population less than one crore each) was topped by Goa, followed by Sikkim and Himachal Pradesh.
In this classification, Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are at the bottom.
The ranking is part of the India Justice Report (IJR) 2019, an initiative of Tata Trusts in collaboration with Centre for Social Justice, Common Cause, Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, DAKSH, TISS- Prayas and Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy.

NASA showcases early version of its first all-electric aeroplane

NASA, most prominent for its many Florida-launched exploits into space, showcased an early version of its first all-electric experimental aircraft, the X-57 “Maxwell,” at its lesser-known aeronautics lab in the California desert.
Adapted from a Italian-made Tecnam P2006T twin-engine propeller plane, the X-57 has been under development since 2015 and remains at least a year away from its first test flight in the skies over Edward Air Force Base.

Sahitya Akademi awardee Nabaneeta Dev Sen passes away

Sahitya Akademi awardee writer Nabaneeta Dev Sen died at her south Kolkata residence.
A poet, novelist and short story writer, Dev Sen won the Sahitya Akademi award for her book Naba-Nita in 1999, and a year later was honoured with the Padma Shri. Immensely talented Dev Sen, known for her life force, wit and humour in both personal life and creations.

India to host next edition of men’s hockey World cup 2023

India is among the three nations who have presented their bids to host the next edition of the men’s World cup, who have hosted the men’s World Cup thrice, wants to conduct the event in the January 13 to 29, 2023 window.
Belgium and Malaysia are the other two nations who have also sent their bidding dossier to conduct the men’s event but they prefer to host the event in the July 1 to 17, 2022 window.
For the Women’s World Cup, five countries have presented their bids, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands want to host the event in the July 1 to 17, 2022 window, Malaysia and New Zealand are keen to conduct the tournament in the January 13 to 29, 2023 window.

Delhi air quality remains ‘poor’, AQI at 281File Pic: PTI

Pollution levels in the national capital remained in the “poor” category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi’s air quality index, AQI was recorded at 281. An AQI between 201 and 300 is ‘poor’, 301 to 400 ‘very poor’ and 401 to 500 is ‘severe’.
The city recorded a decline in the pollution levels with the air quality moving from the “very poor” to “poor” category owing to favourable wind speed.
The weatherman has forecast that the maximum temperature is likely to settle at 29 degrees Celsius and there will be strong surface winds during the day. Humidity was recorded at 76 per cent.

Writer Aatish Taseer’s OCI card withdrawn for ‘concealing’ that his father was Pakistani, says MHA

Writer and journalist Aatish Taseer was informed that his Overseas Citizen of India status had been cancelled and that he should turn his OCI card in to the Consulate General of India in New York, where he lives, in 15 days.
A few hours earlier, the Ministry for Home Affairs said that Taseer had become “ineligible” to hold the Overseas Citizen of India card because he had “concealed the fact that his late father was of Pakistani origin” in his application for this status.

ADB approves $300 million for power transmission expansion in Bangladesh

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a 300 million dollar loan for a project to expand power transmission lines in Greater Dhaka and western zone of Bangladesh.
Besides ADB’s loan, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank is considering 200 million dollars in co-financing to fund transmission lines, substations and an enterprise resource planning system. The assistance also comprises a 750,000 dollar grant from China’s Poverty Reduction and Regional Cooperation Fund.

RBI Raises Household Income Limit For Borrowers Of NBFC-MFIS

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Statement on Developmental and Regulatory Policies, the central bank raised the household income limit for borrowers of NBFC-MFIS.
This Statement sets out various developmental and regulatory policy measures for strengthening regulation and supervision; broadening and deepening financial markets; and improving the payment and settlement systems.
It is proposed to increase the household income limit for borrowers of NBFC-MFIs from the current level of Rs 1.00 lakh for rural areas and Rs 1.60 lakh for urban/semi urban areas to Rs 1.25 lakh and Rs 2.00 lakh, respectively. The has also been decided to raise the lending limit from Rs 1.00 lakh to Rs 1.25 lakh per eligible borrower.

Maruti Suzuki India cuts production for 8th straight month in October

Lack of demand for passenger vehicles in the country has forced India’s largest manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki to cut its production for the 8th consecutive month. The company’s total vehicle production last month stood at 119,337 units against 150,497 in October last year.
The production of passenger vehicles was down 117,383 units from 148,318 in October last year, while Van produced slipped nearly by half from 13,817 in October 2018 to 7,661 last month.

IOCL gets environmental clearance to set up 2G ethanol plant in Panipat

Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has given environment clearance to Indian Oil Corporation Limited to set up new 2G Ethanol plant at Panipat.
Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change Prakash Javadekar said, this project not only promotes use of environmentally friendly fuel but also aids in fulfilment of government’s goal of doubling farmers’ income.
Mr Javadekar added that Ministry has revised the Environmental Standards for Tanneries, Iron & Steel Industries and Coffee industries after due stakeholder consultations and expert advice. The new Standards aim at commitment of government to ensure clean and green environment.
Tech Mahindra acquires New York-based BORN Group for $95 million
IT services firm Tech Mahindra has acquired BORN Group, a New York-based digital content and production agency, for $95 million in an all-cash deal.
BORN’s services include consulting, content creation, maintenance and hosting services, digital and social marketing, among others. It has clients such as Google, Tata, Red Bull and TAG Heuer. BORN has offices in New York City, London, Hong Kong, Singapore and India and employs over 1,100 people.

Mauritius re-elected incumbent Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth

Mauritius has re-elected Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth for a second five-year term, the electoral commission just over a month after a November 7 poll.
The 57-year-old leader of the Militant Socialist Movement secured 38 of 62 parliamentary seats, while main rivals Navinchandra Ramgoolam of the Labour Party and Mauritian Militant Movement leader Paul Berenger won 13 and 9 seats, respectively.
Jugnauth was contesting his first election since taking over as prime minister from his father, Anerood Jugnauth, in 2017.

Former CEC TN Seshan passes away in Chennai

Former chief election commissioner TN Seshan passed away in Chennai last night.
A 1955 batch IAS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, Seshan had led the Election Commission from 1990 to 1996. He held various key posts in the government including that of Defence Secretary and Cabinet Secretary.
