• Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda has launched the ‘ADI PRASHIKSHAN portal’ to provide quality skill development and capacity-building programs to the tribal population across India.
• The ADI PRASHIKSHAN portal has been developed by the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Tribal Research Institute, Odisha.

• The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay hosted a three-day virtual conference of BRICS Network Universities on electric mobility.

Union Government appoints private person Aashish Chandorkar as the Director at India’s WTO Permanent Mission

• Union Government has appointed a private person Aashish Chandorkar as Counsellor, in India’s Permanent Mission in the World Trade Organization (WTO) for three years.
• It is the first time that a private person has been appointed at the Mission. He is the Director of Bengaluru-based policy think tank Smahi Foundation of Policy and Research.
• The World Trade Organization (WTO) is a 164-member multi-lateral body, which deals with global trade. India is a member of the WTO since 1995.

India ranks 135^th in the 2021 Global Peace Index (GPI): Iceland tops the list

• According to the Sydney-based Institute of Economics and Peace (IEP) report, India has ranked 135^th (5^th in South Asia) in the 15^th edition of the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2021.
• Iceland remains the most peaceful country in the world, a position it has held since 2008. Iceland was followed by New Zealand, Denmark, Portugal and Slovenia.
• Afghanistan (163^rd rank) is the least peaceful country in the world for the fourth consecutive year followed by Yemen, Syria, South Sudan and Iraq.

India retains 43^rd rank on IMD’s World Competitiveness Index 2021: Switzerland tops the list

• According to the Institute for Management Development (IMD) report, India has retained the 43^rd spot in the 2021 World Competitiveness Index. India has maintained the 43^rd rank for the past three years. The 64-nation list was topped by Switzerland.
• Switzerland was followed by Sweden (2^nd rank), Denmark (3^rd rank) and Netherlands (4^th rank).
• Among the BRICS nations, China (16^th rank) is followed by India (43^rd rank), Russia (45^th rank), Brazil (57^th rank) and South Africa (62^nd rank).

Indian Olympic Association ropes in MPL as the principal sponsor of India for the Tokyo Olympics 2020

• The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has roped in mobile gaming platform MPL Sports Foundation as the principal sponsor of India for the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and the upcoming 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
• Meanwhile, Amul has signed an Rs. 1 crore deal till 31 December 2021 specifically covering the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
