Mizoram becomes 27th state to join UDAY:

    Mizoram has become the 27th state to join UDAY scheme meant for revival of debt-stressed discoms which will help it get overall benefits of Rs 198 crore during the period of turnaround.

The Government of India and the State of Mizoram signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) under the scheme Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana (UDAY) for operational improvement of the state’s Power Distribution Department.


Dehradun to host five-day Commonwealth forestry conference:

The 19th Commonwealth Forestry Conference at Dehradun-based Forest Research Institute will focus on biodiversity conservation and management, livelihood and economic security from forests, diversification, multiple use and sustainable harvest, forest and climate change. Scientists and experts from 49 member countries of the Commonwealth will gather here on April 3 to participate in a five-day forestry conference.

India, Malaysia vow to strengthen strategic, trade ties:

India and Malaysia agreed to strengthen their strategic partnership for mounting an effective response to common challenges of terrorism and extremism during the talks Prime Minister Narendra Modi had with his Malaysian counterpart Najib Razad. The wide-ranging talks also encompassed trade ties.


World’s largest solar power plant launched in Morocco:

Noor Ouarzazate IV, the world’s largest solar power plant was launched by the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI. The solar power plant is in the final stage where the first phase was launched in 2016. The second and third power stations are to be launched. The Noor Quarzazate IV is in the southern province which is spread over 137 hectares, will be set up with $75 million with photovoltaic technology.

Vipul takes charge as new Consul General of Dubai:

  Diplomat Vipul, a 1998 batch Indian Foreign Service officer today took up the charge as the new Consul General of Dubai. Mr Vipul said that he looks forward to contribute to India – UAE relations and welfare of the Indian Community.

Sindhu canters to India Open title:

 

Sindhu, who won the TOISA badminton player of the year as well as overall player of the year awards, avenged her Olympic final defeat to Marin in an imperious fashion with a straight game 21-19, 21-16 win maiden India Open Super Series title at a packed  Siri Fort Sports Complex.


Federer and Konta clinches Miami Open:

   

Roger Federer and Johanna Konta defeated their counterpart Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-4 and Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 6-3 to win the Miami Open in Men’s and Women’s Singles Tournament respectively.  Konta bagged the biggest title for a British woman in 40 years. The event held in Miami city of U.S.  

AIFF to launch Champions Cup from August:

The All India Football Federation is all set to launch a new invitational annual international tournament to be named Champions cup which will replace Nehru cup from August this year. The multi-continent four-team tournament will see participation from an Asian, an African and a North American country, in addition to hosts India.

Joyciline Jepkosgei: Kenyan breaks four world records at Prague Half Marathon:

Kenya’s Joyciline Jepkosgei broke four world records as she stormed to victory at the Prague Half Marathon. The 23-year-old completed her fifth half marathon in one hour, four minutes and 52 seconds – 14 seconds quicker than the record set by Peres Jepchirchir earlier this year.

James Rosenquist, a leading pioneer of Pop Art who appropriated industrial painting methods to cultivate his bold, graphic style, has died in New York. He was 83.
