ASEAN India Connectivity Summit (AICS) begins in New Delhi

The ASEAN India Connectivity Summit (AICS) held at New Delhi, being organized by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in collaboration with AIC and CII. The Summit was attended by Road, Transport and Highways and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari, Ministers of State for External Affairs Gen VK Singh and MJ Akbar.

The AICS aims at accelerating existing connectivity prospects, identifying issues of concern, evolving suitable policy recommendations and developing strategies to enhance economic, industrial and trade relations between ASEAN and India.

Giriraj Singh launches Public Procurement Portal “MSME Sambandh”

A Public Procurement Portal ‘MSME Sambandh’ was launched by Shri Giriraj Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for MSME. The objective of the portal is to monitor the implementation of the Public Procurement from MSEs by Central Public Sector Enterprises.

The procurement policy mandates the Central government departments/CPSEs to procure an overall 20 percent of their total annual purchases from MSEs.


Aadivasi Mahotsav held in Raipur, Chhattisgarh

The two-day Aadivasi Mahotsav was held in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The festival aimed at displaying the rich and diverse tribal traditions of the central state. It is inaugurated by Union Tribal Affairs minister Jual oram and chief minister Dr.Raman Singh.

The festival has been organised in the memory of 1857 revolutionary from the region, Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh on his martyrdom day.

Khelo India Programme to be launched from 2018

The Government of India will launch a Khelo India programme at a cost of Rs 1,756 crore for the period 2017-18 to 2019-20, announced by Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.

The programme aims at mainstreaming sports as a tool for individual development, community development, economic development and national development.Each athlete selected under the scheme will receive an annual scholarship worth Rs 5 lakh for 8 years and 2018 will be celebrated as Year of Sports.


India’s first ever mobile food testing lab unveiled in Goa

The Chief Minister of Goa Manohar Parrikar has launched India’s first mobile food testing laboratory in Goa. Parrikar unveiled the vehicle, worth Rs 41 lakh, in presence of Goa Food and Drugs Administration minister Vishwajit Rane.

The laboratory mounted on a bus will be travelling across the state checking food samples on the spot.The vehicle is equipped to conduct on-the-spot tests to check food quality and curb adulteration, also check hygiene level of water.

Bodhi Parva: BIMSTEC Festival of Buddhist Heritage held in New Delhi

India hosted “Bodhi Parva: BIMSTEC Festival of Buddhist Heritage” at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi as part of celebrations of 20th Anniversary of BIMSTEC.

The Festival was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture Dr. Mahesh Sharma.

Uma Shankar appointed RBI Executive Director

Uma Shankar has been appointed as RBI Executive Director. She is the chief general manager (CGM) in charge of the Reserve Bank of India’s financial inclusion and development department. She will replace Meena Hemchandra.

RBI has 11 Executive Directors currently.

Mamta Kalia Selected for Vyas Samman – 2017

Renowned Hindi scholar and writer Mamta Kalia has been chosen for this year’s Vyas Samman for her novel “Dukkham Sukkham” . The award includes a cash prize of Rs 3.50 lakh.

Vyas Samman is given annually to an outstanding work of Hindi literature.

Maruti Suzuki replaces SBI as 6th most valuable Indian firm

India’s Maruti Suzuki became India’s sixth most valued firm, crossing India’s largest lender SBI.

Maruti Suzuki’s market capitalisation stood at ₹2.74 trillion, marginally ahead of SBI’s market value of ₹2.71 trillion.

Reliance Industries is the country’s most valued company. It has a market value of ₹5.8 trillion, followed by TCS, HDFC Bank, ITC and Hindustan Unilever.

Australia beat Argentina to win gold in Hockey World League

Australia beat Argentina in the final of the Hockey World League Final (HWLF) to win gold at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.

India beat Germany to win bronze medal in Hockey world League.
