Union Minister Bhupender Yadav launches awareness mascot ‘Prakriti’ and green initiatives for effective plastic waste management

  • The Union Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEFCC), Bhupender Yadav has launched the awareness mascot named ‘Prakriti’ and green initiatives for effective plastic waste management.
  • This mascot named ‘Prakriti’ aims to spread awareness among the masses about small changes that can be sustainably adopted in our lifestyle for a better environment and various green initiatives taken by MoEFCC and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to ensure effective Plastic Waste Management (PWM) in India.

India’s first underwater metro tunnel in Kolkata is set to be made functional by 2023

  • The construction of India’s first underwater metro tunnel in Kolkata under the Hooghly River for establishing metro connectivity between Howrah and Kolkata is underway and will be made fully functional by 2023.
  • This metro tunnel is built under the Hooghly River at a depth of 33 metres. Of the 6-km-long east-west stretch, 520 metres of the metro tunnel will be under the riverbed.
  • The Kolkata East-West Metro line is being constructed by the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRCL) and consist of the underwater metro tunnel that will go beneath the Hooghly River.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launches the ‘Mukhyamantri Udyam Kranti Yojana’

  • Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has launched the ‘Mukhyamantri Udhyam Kranti Yojana’.
  • Under this scheme, Madhya Pradesh Government will provide ₹ 1 lakh to ₹ 50 lakhs for micro, small and medium startup enterprises in Madhya Pradesh. The Madhya Pradesh Government will give a 3 per cent per year interest subsidy and bank loan guarantee fee for a maximum period of seven years.

  • This initiative would benefit over 9 lakh registered farmers, thereby furnishing ‘J-Forms’ digitally to them for their agriculture products sold in mandis on their WhatsApp account in realtime.

Madagascar becomes the thirteenth country to join the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure

  • Madagascar became the thirteenth country to join the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI).
  • The CDRI was launched by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his speech at the United Nations (UN) Climate Action Summit in September 2019.
  • The CDRI is a partnership of national governments, UN agencies and programmes, multilateral development banks and financing mechanisms, the private sector and knowledge institutions that aims to promote the resilience of new and existing infrastructure systems to climate and disaster risks in support of sustainable development.

India financially supports the construction of the Khumjung Khunde wastewater management project in Nepal

  • The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration of the Government of Nepal and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality in Soulukhumbu for the construction of the Khumjung Khunde wastewater management project.
  • The construction of this project will improve the health and quality of life of the people living in the Khumjung village in Solukbumbu providing them with safe water and improved sanitation, which is essential for improving public health.

  • India hosted the senior officials meeting of the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM). This meeting was organised to review the work of various workstreams in clean energy policies.
  • The Government of India and the United Kingdom lead the plenary dialogue on the future of energy transition.
  • The Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) is a high-level global forum of 29 member countries to promote policies and programmes that advance clean energy technology through sharing of knowledge and best practices with a focus on the transition to a global clean energy future.

  • Union Bank of India (UBI) has launched its super app named ‘UnionNXT’ and digital transformation project named SMBHAV with an investment outlay of around ₹ 1,000 crores for the financial year 2022–23 (FY23).
  • The UBI aims to have 50 per cent of business originating on its digital platform by 2025.
  • A banking super app essentially combines a number of services, such as payments, online shopping, bill payments, recharges, investment, loans and fund transfer, on a single platform.

RBI approves the re-appointment of Murali M. Natrajan as the MD and CEO of DCB Bank

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the re-appointment of Murali M. Natrajan as the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DCB Bank for a further period of two years from 29 April 2022 to 28 April 2024.
  • Murali Natrajan was appointed as the MD and CEO of DCB Bank back in May 2009. Prior to that, he worked with foreign banks such as Citibank and Standard Chartered Bank.

Ramdarash Mishra was selected for the Saraswati Samman 2021

  • K. Birla Foundation has announced that noted poet and litterateur, Professor Ramdarash Mishra will be awarded the prestigious Saraswati Samman 2021 for his collection of poems, ‘Mein to Yahan Hun’.
  • The Saraswati Samman is one of the most prestigious literary awards in India. It was instituted in 1991. This award is given every year to an outstanding literary work written in any Indian language by an Indian citizen and published within the last 10 years.

Elon Musk tops the Forbes World’s Billionaires List 2022

  • According to the Forbes richest list in 2022, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk ($ 219 billion) became the richest person in the world for the first time ever.
  • This list was topped by Elon Musk ($ 219 billion), Jeff Bezos ($ 171 billion), Bernard Arnault & his family ($ 158 billion), Bill Gates ($ 129 billion) and Warren Buffett ($ 118 billion).
  • The United States has the highest number of billionaires in the world, with 735 billionaires. China (including Hong Kong and Macau) remains second with 607 billionaires, followed by India (166), Germany (134) and Russia (83).
  • Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has ranked as the tenth richest person in the world, followed by Indian Infrastructure tycoon Gautam Adani and his family, which claimed the eleventh spot on the Forbes’ Annual World’s Billionaires List in 2022.
  • The top five Indians in the Forbes World’s Billionaires List in 2022 are:
  • Mukesh Ambani ($ 90.7 billion) – tenth rank

Chhattisgarh tops among the states with the lowest unemployment rate in India: CMIE Report

  • According to the latest data released by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), Chhattisgarh was ranked first among this list of the states with the lowest unemployment rate of 6 per cent in India.
  • As per the data, the states with the lowest unemployment rate in India was topped by Chhattisgarh (0.6 per cent), Madhya Pradesh (1.4 per cent), Karnataka (1.8 per cent) and Gujarat (1.8 per cent).
  • India’s unemployment rate decreased to 6 per cent in March 2022 from 8.10 per cent in February 2022. Haryana has the highest unemployment rate in India at 26.7 per cent.
  • As per the data, the list of the states/union territories with the highest unemployment rate in India was topped by Haryana (26.7 per cent), Rajasthan (25 per cent), Jammu and Kashmir (25 per cent) and Jharkhand (14.5 per cent).
