West Bengal Launches Rupashree scheme for girls

The West Bengal government has introduced a new scheme, “Rupashree”.

It provides marriage assistance to girls coming from economically weaker families with a budgetary allocation of Rs 1,500 crore.

The scheme proposes to extend one-time financial assistance worth Rs 25,000 to the family of the girl after 18 yrs of age whose annual income is up to Rs 1.5 lakh.


Foundation stone laid for SJVNL hydro project

Union Power Minister R.K. Singh and Uttrakhand Chief Minister Trivender Singh Rawat laid the foundation stone of public sector company SJVNL’s Naitwar Mori Hydro Electric Project.

The 60 MW project is located on the river Tons – a tributary of the Yamuna, in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.

The estimated project cost as at October 2016 is ₹. 648.33 crore.

E-way bill for inter-state movement of goods rolled out

The Nationwide electronic or e-way bill system for inter-state movement of goods has been started.

Karnataka is the only State which has implemented the e-way bill system for moving goods within the State. The State has been using the e-way bill platform since September last year for intra-state movement of goods.

The transporters have to produce a e-way bill for moving goods worth over Rs 50,000 from one State to another.

The system has been designed and developed by National Informatics Centre (NIC).


NHAI Awarded Projects Worth Rs 1.22 lakh crore in FY18

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) today said it has awarded projects worth Rs 1,22,000 crore for constructing about 7,400 km of highways in the fiscal 2017-18.

In Financial Year 2017-18, NHAI has awarded 150 road projects of 7,400 kilometre worth Rs 1,22,000 crore.

In last 5 years, the average length of road projects awarded by NHAI was 2,860 Km with 4,335 Km awarded in the last financial year.

Kadaknath chicken gets Geographical Indication tag

Kadaknath, a black-feathered chicken breed popular for its flavoured meat, has won the Geographical Indications (GI) tag.

Kadknath is mainly found in Madhya Pradesh’s Jhabua, Alirajpur and parts of Dhar district and won the tag 6 years after applying for it.

The GI tag awarded by the GI registry in Chennai stamps that a product possesses certain qualities exclusive to its land of origin.

The other products that have been granted GIs are Kashmiri pashmina, Darjeeling tea, Kancheepuram silk and Tirupati laddoo.


Kerala to Host Asia’s Largest Startup Conclave

Asia’s largest startup ecosystem congregation, Huddle Kerala, will be held at Kovalam.

The initiative is envisaged to provide a platform for start-ups to pitch their products and interact with a wide array of technology and industry leaders from around the world.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the conclave and it is organised by the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) in association with Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and IAMAI Startup Foundation.

INTERNATIONAL

Joint Military Exercise- ‘Foal Eagle’ begins

The United States and South Korea began their joint military training exercises as diplomatic relations have been thawing on the Korean Peninsula.

Foal Eagle is the largest annual joint military exercise in South Korea, usually runs about two months.

It is a series of field training exercises involving about 11,500 American and 290,000 South Korean troops.

Debjani Ghosh is the new president of Nasscom

Debjani Ghosh, former managing director of Intel South Asia, is the new president of Nasscom.

Ms.Ghosh had taken charge as the president, succeeding R.Chandrashekhar upon completion of his term.

Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj was adjudged ‘Sportsperson of the Year’ .

Ace shuttlers Kidambi Srikanth and PV Sindhu bagged the best senior male and female athletes at the Telangana Sports Journalists Association annual awards for 2017.

Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman presented ‘best coach of the year’ award to Gopichand.

Triple Olympian and former national hockey player N Mukesh Kumar was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award at the event.

Kerala lifts their sixth Santosh Trophy

Kerala has lifted their sixth Santosh Trophy Football title. The final match held at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.

Kerala defeated West Bengal to clinch the title.

The Santosh Trophy is an association football knock-out competition contested by the regional state associations and government institutions under the All India Football Federation, the sport’s governing body in India.

Film Director C.V. Rajendran Passes Away

The Tamil film director C.V. Rajendran, who was part of late C.V. Sridhar’s unit passed away. He directed a few memorable films like Kalatta Kalyanam, Sumathi En Sundari and Raja starring Sivaji Ganesan and Jayalalithaa and Ponoonjal.

World Autism Awareness Day- April 2

The United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared 2 April as World Autism Awareness Day.

The theme for WAAD 2018 is “Empowering Women and Girls with Autism”.

Autism refers to a range of conditions characterised by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviours, speech and non-verbal communication.
