Union Government cuts MUDRA loans target in FY22

  • The Union Government has set the loans disbursement target under the Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) at 3 trillion for the current financial year (FY22) as compared to Rs. 3.21 trillion sanctioned in FY21.

  • India’s flagship military exhibition, DefExpo-2022, is scheduled to be held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, from March 2022. The DefExpo-2022 show is organised by the Union Ministry of Defence every 2 years.

  • Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has launched the first-of-its-kind ‘Har Hith’ store scheme to promote the sale of quality products of daily need at reasonable prices.
  • As many as 2000 stores will be launched in the first phase – 1500 in rural and 500 in urban areas. The number of stores will later be extended to 5000 in the first phase.

RBI authorises IndusInd Bank to act as an ‘Agency Bank’

  • IndusInd Bank was empanelled by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to act as an ‘Agency Bank’ to facilitate transactions related to government businesses.
  • The announcement came after a recent RBI guideline that authorises scheduled private sector banks as agency banks of the regulator for the conduct of government business.

HDFC Bank partners with CSC SPV to launch ‘Dukandar Overdraft Scheme’ for small retailers

  • Private lender, HDFC Bank has partnered with Common Service Centers Special Purpose Vehicle (SCS SPV) to launch the ‘Dukandar Overdraft Scheme’ for small retailers. This overdraft facility will help shopkeepers and merchants to ease their cash crunch.
  • Retailers operating for a minimum of three years can avail the overdraft facility by providing 6 months bank statement from any bank.
  • Based on the statement, the bank may approve an overdraft limit from a minimum of 50,000 to a maximum of Rs. 10 lakhs. No collateral security, business financials and income tax returns would be required to apply for this scheme.

RBI imposes Rs. 50.35 lakhs penalty on Nashik-based Janalaxmi Co-operative Bank

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a penalty of 50.35 lakhs on Janalaxmi Co-operative Bank based in Maharashtra’s Nashik for non-compliance with certain regulatory requirements.
  • This penalty was imposed for non-compliance with directions issued by RBI on ‘Placement of Deposits with Other Banks by Primary (Urban) Co-operative Banks’ and ’Membership of Credit Information Companies (CICs)’.

  • Jagdish Bhagwati is a professor of economics, law and international relations at the Columbia University and Director of the Raj Center on Indian Economic Policies.
  • Rangarajan is the former Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council of the Prime Minister of India and former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

  • India’s Lovlina Borgohain won a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after losing the semi-final to Busenaz Surmeneli (Turkey). She won the bronze medal in the women’s Welterweight boxing 69 kg category.
  • Lovlina Borgohain is only the third Indian boxer after Vijender Singh and Mary Kom to win an Olympic medal (Bronze).

Nepal cricketer Paras Khadka retires from international cricket

  • Former Nepal cricket team captain Paras Khadka announced retirement from international cricket. He is the first Nepalese cricketer to score an ODI ton and T20I
  • The 34-year-old had played 10 ODIs and 33 T20 international cricket matches.

Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur launches official theme song for India’s Paralympic contingent

  • Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur virtually launched the theme song ‘Kar De Kamaal Tu’ for India’s Paralympic contingent and urged the public to cheer the para-athletes for the Summer Paralympic Games 2020 in Tokyo.
  • The song is composed and sung by divyang cricket player Sanjeev Singh.

  • United States beat Mexico in the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Miles Robinson scored on a header in the 117th minute of the extra time is the only goal in the football final.

Sydney McLaughlin smashes world record to win Olympic 400 m hurdles gold

  • The 21-year-old Sydney McLaughlin of the United States smashed her own world record (51.46 sec) as she stormed to victory in the Tokyo Olympic women’s 400 m hurdles
  • The 2016 Rio Olympic gold medallist Dalilah Muhammad claimed silver 51.58 seconds. Femke Bol of the Netherlands took the bronze medal with 52.03 seconds.
