National Energy Conservation Day – 14 December
- National Energy Conservation Day is observed on 14 December every year in India to focus on making people aware of global warming and climate change and to promote efforts towards saving energy resources.
- The Union Ministry of Power under the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ is celebrating the National Energy Conservation Week from 8 to 14 December this year.
- The Energy Conservation Act was implemented by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) in 2001.

- India was re-elected to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Council after elections were held at its Assembly in London for the 2022–23 term.
- India’s election is part of a group of ten countries having the greatest interest in international seaborne trade along with Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and The United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Worldline launches a card tokenisation solution
- Worldline, a global leader in payments solutions, has partnered with major card networks, including Visa, Mastercard, RuPay and leading card-issuing banks, in building a tokenisation solution to enable businesses to comply with the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) recent guidelines on the storage of card details.
- The RBI guidelines on card storage will come into effect from 1 January 2022.
- Worldline’s full-service tokenisation solution is a comprehensive solution that includes token provisioning as well as tokenised transaction processing.
- It provides merchants with comprehensive coverage because it is directly connected with all payment networks and issuers. From a single interface, merchants can provision, manage tokens and obtain customer’s consent.
LIC launches a savings life insurance plan named Dhan Rekha plan
- The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has launched a new savings life insurance plan named Dhan Rekha plan, which is a non-linked, non-participating, individual savings life insurance plan.
- Under this plan, there are special premium rates for females and this plan is allowed for the third gender and all benefits under the plan are fully guaranteed.
- The minimum sum assured under this plan is ₹2 lakhs and there is no maximum limit for sum assured.
- The minimum entry age is 90 days to eight years and the maximum age ranges from 35 years to 55 years.

Bank of Baroda launches a wearable payment solution named ‘bob World Wave’
- Bank of Baroda (BoB) has launched a wearable payment solution named ‘bob World Wave’ for digital banking payments.
- Wearable technology is witnessing the rise of tremendous interest across the world and lenders are using this opportunity to adopt the more convenient and cashless digital payments systems.
- ‘bob World Wave’ device will provide contactless payments of up to ₹5000 in all Near-Filed Communication (NFC) enabled Point-of-Sale (PoS) devices.
- This wearable comes with health monitoring benefits too, just like any other fitness band and can be used to monitor your SpO2, body temperature, heart rate and blood pressure.
- BoB is offering a unique Three-month free wellness package with ‘bob World Wave’, which includes a personal health coach, doctor teleconsultation and interactive video coaching.
Reserve Bank of India enforces a 20-digit Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) for cross-border transactions above ₹50 crores
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) enforced Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) mandatory for cross-border transactions for capital or current account transactions of ₹50 crores and above, from 1 October 2022 under the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999.
- LEI is a 20-digit number that helps to improve the quality and accuracy of financial data systems by uniquely identifying parties to financial transactions around the world.
- The LEI numbers are maintained in a global LEI database available on the website of the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF).
- LEI was introduced by the Reserve Bank of India in a phased manner for over-the-counter (OTC) derivative, non-derivative markets, large corporate borrowers and large value transactions in centralised payment systems.

- He overtook Amazon’s founder Jeff Bezos to become the world’s wealthiest person in 2021.
- Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were named Time Magazine’s Persons of the Year 2020.
India ranks 66th in the Global Health Security Index 2021
- India was ranked in the 66th position in the Global Health Security (GHS) Index 2021 released by the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) and the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security at the Bloomberg School of Public Health.
- This index was topped by the United States, followed by Australia and Finland.
- The 2021 GHS Index measures the capacities of 195 countries to prepare for epidemics and pandemics.

BPCL ties up with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre for the production of green hydrogen
- Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has tied up with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) to scale up alkaline electrolyser technology for green hydrogen generation as it seeks to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040.
- India is the world’s third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases. It aspires to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070 and increase the amount of renewables in its energy mix to 50 per cent by 2030, up from 38 per cent at present.
- BPCL also plans to scale up indigenous alkaline electrolyser technology for use in refineries through collaboration with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.
- An electrolyser splits water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity. For green hydrogen, renewable energy is used for electrolysis.
Tamil Nadu’s Health and Family Welfare Department and the Japan International Cooperation Agency sign a pact to strengthen the health sector
- The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Tamil Nadu’s Health and Family Welfare Department have signed a pact on Record of Discussions (RoD) for the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases in Tamil Nadu.
- This initiative is set to begin in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2021, which will focus on improving the administrative and technical capacities of health professionals in the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases.

Adani Green Power signs a green power purchase agreement (PPA) with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI)
- Adani Green Energy (AGEL) has signed a power purchase agreement with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to supply 4667 MW of green energy.
- This is the world’s largest evergreen power purchase agreement (PPA), as Adani is on track to be the world’s largest renewables player by 2030.
- So far, AGEL has signed PPAs with SECI for a total generation capacity of close to 6,000 MW of the 8,000 MW awarded in 2020.

India successfully tests multi-barrel rocket launcher system ‘Pinaka-ER’ at Pokharan range
- India successfully tested a multi-barrel rocket launcher system Pinaka Extended Range (Pinaka-ER) at Pokhran range.
- The system is jointly designed by laboratories of Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) in Pune and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) in Pune.
- It is an upgraded version of the earlier Pinaka rockets that have been in service with the Indian Army, since a decade.
- Pinaka is an all-weather, artillery multi-barrel rocket system. It can fire 72 rockets in 44 seconds. It delivers lethal and responsive fire against a variety of area targets such as exposed enemy troops, armoured and soft skin vehicles, communication centres, air terminal complexes, fuel and ammunition dumps.
India successfully launches Supersonic Missile-Assisted Torpedo system
- India successfully launched the Supersonic Missile-Assisted Torpedo system (SMAT) from Abdul Kalam Island (formerly known as Wheeler Island) off the Odisha coast.
- This system has been designed to enhance anti-submarine warfare capability far beyond the conventional range of the torpedo.
- This canister-based missile system consists of advanced technologies like two-stage solid propulsion, electro-mechanical actuators and precision inertial navigation.

Indian weightlifter Ajay Singh wins the gold medal at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2021
- Indian weightlifter Ajay Singh won the third gold medal for India in the men’s 81 kg category at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2021.
- He became the third Indian weightlifter to directly qualify for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
- Jeremy Lalrinnunga (67 kg) and Achinta Sheuli (73 kg) have already qualified for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
- Harjinder Kaur and Lalchhanhimi won the silver and bronze medals in the women’s 71 kg category with total lifts of 211 kg (90+121) and 209 kg (90+119), respectively.
- Popy Hazarika had also won the silver medal in the women’s 59 kg category, with a total lift of 189 kg (84+105).
