1)Fifteenth Finance Commission submits report to President

  • Fifteenth Finance Commission has submitted its report for 2020-21 to President Ram Nath Kovind.
  • Chairman of the Commission N K Singh, Members Ajay Narayan Jha, Ashok Lahiri, Ramesh Chand, Anoop Singh and Secretary Arvind Mehta today called on the President and submitted the report for further necessary action.
  • The Finance Commission was constituted by the President on 27th of November 2017 to make recommendations for a period of five years from 1st April 2020 to 31 March 2025. 

2) Piyush Goyal inaugurates third edition of National Public Procurement Conclave

  • Piyush Goyal inaugurated the third edition of National Public Procurement Conclave in New Delhi today. 
  • The two-day conclave has been organized by Government e-Marketplace, GeM in association with Confederation of Indian Industry.
  • The Minister hoped that during this conclave, a road map for the future of GeM will be put in place that will unify all government procurement, across all Ministries and Departments. 

3) Short essay competition launched for PM’s Interaction Programme with school students

  • Human Resource Development Ministry in partnership with MyGov has launched a short essay competition for students of Class 9 to 12 for the third edition of Prime Minister’s Interaction Programme with school students ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha- 2020’
  • The programme is proposed to be held at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi in the third week of January next year.
  • The entries for the competition, to be sent on-line, have been made open from 2nd of this month.
  • Selected winners will get a chance to attend ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha-2020’ and interact with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

4) Sweden king, Queen attend inauguration of sewage treatment plant in Haridwar

  • Union Minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat today inaugurated a Sewage Treatment Plant in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand in the presence of Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. 
  • Union Jal Shakti Minister Shekhawat said that 34 STP stations is to be set up in the state out of which the 23  plants are almost complete.
  • He said that STPs of the capacity 127 MLD is the target under Namami Gange Yojna in the state

5) Nation pays homage to Dr BR Ambedkar on his 64th Mahaparinirvan Diwas

  • President Ram Nath Kovind led the nation in paying tributes to Bharat Ratna Dr BR Ambedkar on his 64th Mahaparinirvan Diwas today Dec 6. He paid floral tributes at his Statue in Parliament House this morning. 
  • Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu in a series of tweets, said, humble tributes and respects to the architect of the Constitution. He said Ambedkar was a champion of democracy, he was a staunch patriot, a nationalist and a humanist to whom upliftment of poor and downtrodden was an essential precondition to development. 
  • The Vice President added, that Ambedkar strongly advocated dignity, unity, and freedom for all citizens, as enshrined in the Constitution and relentlessly campaigned for the rights of the marginalized.

6) Govt sanctions Rs 100 cr to set up women help desks in police stations

  • Union Home Ministry has sanctioned a sum 100 crore rupees from Nirbhaya Fund for setting up and strengthening of Women Help Desks in Police Stations.
  • This scheme would be implemented by the States and Union Territories. 
  • The Help Desks would focus on making the Police Stations more women-friendly and approachable, as they would be the first and single point of contact for any woman walking into a police station.
  • Essentially, lady police officers would be deployed at these help desks.

7) Europe’s oldest Beznau nuclear plant in Switzerland not ready to retire

  • Europe’s oldest functioning nuclear reactor, at Switzerland’s Beznau plant, will turn 50 next week — a lifespan deemed dangerously long by environmentalists who are demanding that it be shut down immediately. 
  • Beznau 1 is one of the very oldest reactors in operation today, following only reactors 1 and 2 at Tarapur in western India, which went online in October 1969, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

9) University of Mysore to set up separate dept for department for disability and rehabilitation studies

  • The University of Mysore Academic Council has approved setting up of a separate department for disability and rehabilitation studies in its campus at Manasagangotri. 
  • Speaking to the media, Vice-Chancellor G Hemantha Kumar, said that the new department would come into effect from the next academic year. The University Syndicate had approved the proposal in August this year. 
  • The Ministry of Human Resource Development had asked the Mysore University in February to establish the department to provide facilities to persons with disabilities.

10) Avantee mega Food Park inaugurated in MP’s DewasA

  • In Madhya Pradesh, Union Minister for food processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal inaugurated Avantee mega Food Park in Dewas.
  • This first food park of central India is spread over 51 acres and has been constructed at a cost of about 150 crore rupees. 
  • About 5 thousand local people will get employment from this Mega Food Park.  
  • Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Rameshwar Teli was also present on the inaugural ceremony.

11) DGP, IGP conference begins in Pune

  • A three-day national conference of Director General and Inspector General of Police begins in Pune from today. Home Minister Amit Shah will address the inaugural session of the conference.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the valedictory session of the conference. The theme of the conference is “scientific and forensics-based investigation apart from technology-enabled policing”.

12) Reserve Bank keeps repo rate unchanged at 5.15 %

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in its fifth bi-monthly Monetary Policy has kept the policy repo rate unchanged at 5.15 per cent.

  • The real GDP growth for 2019-20 has been revised downwards from 6.1 per cent in the October policy to 5.0 per cent.

13) K Vijay Kumar appointed senior security advisor in MHA

  • Former advisor to the Governor of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, K Vijay Kumar, has been Shah.appointed as a senior security advisor in the Union Home Ministry headed by Amit 
  • The appointment order is issued by the Union Home Ministry on December 3 stated that 67-year-old Kumar will be in the position for a period of one year from the date of his taking charge.
  • Kumar has served as Director-General of CRPF, Director of National Police Academy in Hyderabad and his most talked-about stint was as the chief of the Tamil Nadu police special task force that killed forest brigand Veerappan in 2004.

14) Former FIFA executive James Johnson appointed to run Australian Football

  • James Johnson, former FIFA head of football, has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Football Federation Australia (FFA).
  • Johnson will commence in the role from January next year.
  • He is one of the few leaders in the sport who has spent his playing and executive career within the various stakeholder groups associated with football and in this time of change we think that matters.
