Statehood Day of Gujrat & Maharashtra – 1 May

  • Maharashtra and Gujarat celebrated their statehood day on 1st May 2020. On the occasion, the Prime Minister and other leaders praised the contribution made by the two states to the development of the country.

Indian Coast Guard rescues missing Tamil Nadu fishing boat ‘Mercedes’

  • Indian Coast Guard, in yet another successful search and rescue operation at sea, has rescued the missing Tamil Nadu fishing boat ‘Mercedes’.
  • in a massive search operation launched on 24 April at a distance of about 1,100 km (590 miles) from Goa. With 11 crew, the fishing boat had sailed for deep-sea fishing West of Kerala on 6 April 2021 for 30 days voyage from Thengapattanam Fishing harbour in Tamil Nadu.
  • the Tamil Nadu Fisheries authorities intimated regarding the sighting of debris by other fishing boats operating in the area presuming ‘Mercedes’ to be sunk.

Seven Indian Navy Ships Deployed for Operation Samudra Setu II

  • In support of the nation’s fight against Covid-19 and as part of operation ‘Samudra Setu II’, seven Indian Naval ships viz. Kolkata, Kochi, Talwar, Tabar, Trikand, Jalashwa and Airavat have been deployed for shipment of liquid medical oxygen-filled cryogenic containers and associated medical equipment from various countries.

National Conference on Agriculture for Kharif Campaign-2021 inaugurated

  • Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar inaugurated ‘The National Conference on Agriculture for Kharif Campaign-2021’.
  • Ministers of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Parshottam Rupala and Kailash Choudhari were also present on the occasion.
  • The conference was organized through video conference to interact with the States on challenges & strategies for effective crop management during the ensuing Kharif season.

Scientists Developed New High-yielding, Pest-resistant Soybean Variety ‘MACS 1407’

  • Scientists in India have developed a high-yielding & pest-resistant variety of soybean ‘MACS 1407’.
  • This new variety is suitable for cultivation in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Assam and Northeastern states. The seeds of MACS 1407 will be made available to the farmers for sowing during the 2022 Kharif season.

Russia Produces First Batch 0f Covid Vaccine for Animals

  • Russia has produced the world’s first batch –17,000 doses – of COVID-19 vaccines for animals.
  • Russia registered Carnivac-Cov in March after tests showed it generated antibodies against COVID-19 in dogs, cats, foxes and mink.
  • The first batch will be supplied to several regions of Russia.

  • PK Pankaj started his career in NIC, as Scientist B in March 1993 and was working with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and its associated organizations (RNI, Publications Divisions) at the time of his demise.

Senior AajTak TV anchor Rohit Sardana passed away

  • Journalist Rohit Sardana, who was one of the top anchors of the Hindi TV news channel AajTak, passed away.
  • According to reports, Rohit had contracted COVID-19 and is unclear whether he had fully recovered.

Bihar chief secretary Arun Kumar Singh passed away

  • Arun Kumar Singh passed away. The 1985-batch officer was tested positive for Covid-19 and died during the treatment.
  • Kumar became the chief secretary on 27 February 2021.

‘Shooter Dadi’ Chandro Tomar dies due to COVID-19

  • Octogenarian shooter Chandro Tomar, nicknamed ‘Shooter Dadi’, died after battling COVID-19. She was 89.
  • Tomar was already 60-plus when she picked up a gun for the first time but went on to win many national competitions, even inspiring a Bollywood movie in her life.

Senior officer of the Indian Information Service, Pushpavant Sharma passed away

  • 58 years old Pushpavant Sharma, Deputy Director, was posted as Assistant Press Registrar in the office of Registrar of Newspapers of India.
  • During his illustrious career of over 34 years in IIS, he served in various media units under the Union Ministry of I&B including PIB (Muzaffarpur and Patna), DFP (Muzaffarpur), AIR News (Ranchi), DD News (Patna and New Delhi).
  • He had also served as president of IIS Association (IISA)
