Amazon launches its first ‘Digital Kendra’ in Surat

  • Amazon India has launched its first ‘Digital Kendra’ in Surat, Gujarat, under its initiative to digitise micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Amazon will invest $1 billion in India to help digitise 10 million Indian MSMEs by 2025.
  • Amazon Digital Kendras will provide MSMEs information about the benefits of e-commerce and help avail third-party services such as shipping and logistics support, cataloguing assistance, digital marketing services, GST and taxation support to start their digital journey.

Union Government sets up 25-member Development Council for Cement Industry headed by Puneet Dalmia

  • Union Government has set up a 25-member Development Council for Cement Industry (DCCI) under the Chairmanship of Puneet Dalmia, CMD of Dalmia Bharat Group.
  • The panel will suggest ways to eliminate waste, obtain maximum production, improve quality, reduce costs and promote the standardisation of products.

Indian Railways opens its first movable freshwater tunnel aquarium at Bengaluru railway station

  • Bengaluru City Railway Station (also known as Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station) has become the first railway station in India with a movable freshwater tunnel aquarium.
  • The 12-feet-long aquarium was opened by the Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Limited (IRSDC) in collaboration with the HNi Aquatic Kingdom.

Delhi Metro launches India’s first FASTag-based cashless parking at Kashmere Gate station

  • The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has launched India’s first FASTag or Unified Payments Interface (UPI) based parking facility to reduce the time for entry and payment. The facility was launched at the Kashmere Gate metro station, New Delhi.
  • The parking lot in this metro station is a Multi-Model Integration (MMI) Vehicles using this facility can now make payment for entry and exit through FASTag.

World’s tallest sandcastle was built in Denmark

  • The world’s tallest sandcastle was constructed in Denmark. The castle is 21.16 metres in height (69.4 feet) and comprises nearly 5,000 tonnes of sand.
  • According to Guinness World Records, this castle in Denmark is 3 metres taller than one built in Germany in 2019, which previously held the title for the world’s tallest castle.

  • India’s third-largest private lender Axis Bank has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Army to offer a defence service salary package with best-in-class benefits and features under its “Power Salute”
  • This initiative will offer personal accidental cover of up to 56 lakhs to all army personnel; up to Rs. 8 lakhs additional education grant; total permanent disability cover benefit up to Rs. 46 lakhs; permanent partial disability cover of up to Rs. 46 lakhs; air accident cover of Rs. 1 crore and free additional debit card for a family member.

  • Airtel Payments Bank has launched a new ‘Pay to Contacts’ This facility will allow customers to initiate a unified payments interface (UPI) payment by simply selecting the recipient’s mobile number from their phonebook.
  • ‘Pay to Contacts’ displays the valid UPI ID associated with the selected contact, irrespective of the UPI app used by the receiver.

  • Sirisha Bandla became the second Indian-born woman to head to space as part of Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic crew on Virgin Space Ship Unity. The 34-year-old Sirisha Bandla is from Andhra Pradesh.
  • She is the second-ever Indian-born woman to fly into space, behind Kalpana Chawla, who went in 1997.

  • Leading Indian professional golfer Udayan Mane has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The 30-year-old Mane joined Anirban Lahiri as the second Indian in the 60-player field in the men’s golf event at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
  • Aditi Ashok is the only woman Indian golfer to qualify in the women’s event for the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Indian women cricketer Mithali Raj tops the ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings for the 8th time

  • The Indian women’s Test and ODI skipper Mithali Raj (762 points) topped the ICC Women’s ODI player ranking list for the eighth time in her 22 year-long international career. She has scored a total of 10,277 runs in 317 matches.
  • Lizelle Lee (758 points) from South Africa came at the second position and Alyssa Healy (756 points) from Australia came at the third position.
