Himachal Pradesh celebrating 70th Himachal Day

The Himachal Pradesh is celebrating its 70th Himachal Day today. On this occasion the state level function was held in Chamba town.

History of the day:

After independence, the Chief Commissioner’s Province of Himachal Pradesh came into existence on Fifteen April 1948, with the merger of twenty eight petty princely states.

Himachal became a part C state on twenty six January 1950 with the implementation of the Constitution of India and the Lt. Governor was appointed. Then Legislative Assembly was elected in 1952 and Himachal Pradesh became a Union Territory on First November 1956.

On First November 1966 some parts of Punjab were merged with this hill state while it became 18th state of the nation on 25th January 1971.
