IIT Mandi and CPRI researchers develop an AI solution for detecting potato blight

• Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi, working together with their counterparts at the Central Potato Research Institute (CPRI) in Shimla, have developed an AI solution that can detect diseases of the tuber crop simply by examining photographs of potato leaves.
• This research was led by Srikant Srinivasan.

• Hyderabad’s hunger activist Syed Osman Azhar Maqsusi who has been feeding thousands of people every day as part of his food drive ‘Hunger Has No Religion’ was awarded a top UK award.
• He was conferred with the Commonwealth Points of Light Award for his drive that helps to feed 1,500 people daily. The award is given for those ‘outstanding individuals who are making a change in their community’.

Former Indian cricketer Yashpal Sharma passed away at 66

• Former Indian cricketer Yashpal Sharma passed away at the age of 66. He is a member of the Kapil Dev-led World Cup-winning team in 1983. He has played 37 ODIs and 42 Tests from 1979–83.

• Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad has announced his retirement from Test cricket. He became only the 10^th batsman in Test cricket to score 150 or more runs in a retirement match.
• Mahmudullah began his Test career in 2009 and has played 50 Tests (43 Test wickets). He scored 2914 runs from 94 innings at an average of 49 with the bat, with 5 centuries and 16 fifties.

• Former world champion Viswanathan Anand was defeated by Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in the Croatia Grand Chess Tournament held in Zagreb, Croatia. Anish Kumar Giri came in the third
