2nd National Council meeting held on India’s Nutrition Challenges under POSHAN Abhiyaan
The 2nd meeting of National Council on India’s Nutrition Challenges under POSHAN Abhiyaan was held in New Delhi.
The meeting was chaired by the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, Rajiv Kumar. It was organised by Union Ministry of Women and Child Development.
The Government of India has set-up POSHAN Abhiyaan (National Nutrition Mission) which was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
Odisha Government launches ‘Green Mahanadi Mission’
The Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has launched the ‘Green Mahanadi Mission’, a plantation drive under which 2 crore saplings will be planted along the Mahanadi river, Tel and Ib rivers.
The plantation drive will be carried out in as many as 1,303 villages spread over 15 districts situated on both sides of the Mahanadi. The plantation drive will be carried out in 16,500 hectare and 500 km.
The aim of this programme is to protect the Mahanadi and keep it alive.
‘Safeguarding the Intangible Cultural Heritage and Diverse Cultural Traditions of India’ Scheme
The Scheme titled ‘Safeguarding the Intangible Cultural Heritage and Diverse Cultural Traditions of India’ is being implemented by the Ministry of Culture.
The main purpose of this scheme is to revitalize various institutions, groups, individuals, identified non-MOC institutions, non-government organisations.
It will be helpful for strengthening, protecting, preserving and promoting the rich intangible cultural heritage of India.
The grant would be released in three installments – 50% in advance, 25% as 2nd installment after appraisal and balance 25% after completion of the project.
Radha Mohan Singh sanctioned Rs 1,754.14 crore under the National Dairy Plan (NDP)
Under the National Dairy Plan (NDP) more than Rs 1,750 crore has been sanctioned by the government to enhance the productivity of milch animals. It was announced by Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh.
Nearly, 530 sub-projects have been approved in 18 states for implementation by 169 state and district level cooperatives, producer companies and livestock development boards with a total grant of Rs 1,754.14 crore.

Global Disability Summit 2018 held In London
The Global Disability Summit was held in London at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot represented India in this summit.
The aim of the summit was to firm up the commitments of the country leaders towards the cause of persons with disabilities.
Global leaders from more than 40 countries attended the summit and have committed themselves to work in the direction of economic empowerment of persons with disabilities.
Invest India, Business France sign MoU to promote investment
The Invest India and Business France have signed an MoU to promote investment facilitation and cooperation between startups of the two countries. Business France is a French Government agency.
It will facilitate direct foreign investment by providing practical investment information to enterprises and support the companies pursuing those opportunities, which contribute positively to economic growth of the two countries.
Invest India and Business France will collaborate to promote business and startup ecosystem cooperation through joint activities and exchange experiences to strengthen institutional knowledge.
13th launch of SpaceX Falcon 9 Sets New Record of launching heaviest satellite ever
The SpaceX has successfully launched communications satellite Telstar 19 VANTAGE to a geostationary transfer orbit (GTO).
It has set a record as the satellite launch is marked by the heaviest payload that a Falcon 9 has ever carried to a GTO. The satellite weights over 7000 kg.
The launch took place from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.
According to Interesting Engineering, Telstar 19 VANTAGE will now complete orbit raising and in-orbit testing. It is the heaviest satellite in the world yet, weighing an impressive 7,080 kilograms (15,600 lb).

Bharti Infratel, Indus Tower Merger Deal Gets SEBI Nod
The Mobile tower arm of telecom major Bharti Airtel, Infratel has received clearance from stock exchanges for its merger with Indus Towers.
It will now approach National Company Law Tribunal for its approval. NCLT is a quasi-judicial body in India that adjudicates issues relating to Indian companies.
In April this year, Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone Group had announced an agreement for the merger of Indus Towers and Bharti Infratel to create the largest mobile tower operator in the world outside China. It will have over 163,000 towers across 22 telecom service areas in India.

Lok Sabha Passes Negotiable Instruments (Amendment) Bill
The Lok Sabha has passed the Negotiable Instruments (Amendment) Bill, 2017, which provides for allowing a court trying an offence related to cheque bouncing to direct the drawer to pay interim compensation to the complainant.
There are 16 lakh cases of cheque bouncing still lying in subordinate courts and 35,000 cases are in higher courts.
- The interim compensation may be paid under certain circumstances, including where the drawer pleads not guilty of the accusation. The compensation will not exceed 20 per cent of the cheque amount and will have to be paid by the drawer within 60 days of the trial court’s order to pay such a compensation.
- A person who defaults on his cheque payments is added to a central register known as the FCC and he is banned from issuing any cheque for a period of five years. We could have put that to the law.
Banks, Financial Institutions Sign Agreement To Speed Up Resolution of Bad Loans
Nearly two dozen Banks and Financial Institutions, including SBI and LIC, have signed the inter-creditor agreement (ICA) framework to speed up the resolution of stressed assets which are under the 500-crore rupee bracket.
The framework is part of the Project Sashakt, the report on bad bank drafted and submitted by the committee headed by Non-executive Chairman of PNB, Sunil Mehta earlier this month.
The main objective of ICA is to resolve stressed assets fast, and will primarily focus on NPAs in the 50 crore to 500 crore bracket.

Tata AIA Appoints Rishi Srivastava as CEO and MD
The Tata AIA Life has announced the elevation of Rishi Srivastava as the new chief executive & managing director.
He will be replacing Naveen Tahilyani who is moving to AIA Group Hong Kong as chief executive, group partnership distribution.
Srivastava, who joined Tata AIA in 2016, is currently the chief of proprietary channels, product, marketing & corporate communication at the company.

Muhammed Anas Yahiya Breaks Own National Record In 400m
The star sprinter Muhammed Anas Yahiya once again entered the record books.
He broke his own national record to win the 400 metres race at the Cena Noveho Mesta nad Metuji meet in Czech Republic.
The Anas set a time of 45.24 seconds to break his own record of 45.31 seconds.
Last year in the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar, Anas had won the gold medal after clocking 45.77 seconds.
