NATIONAL

Rajasthan govt to give guarantee for Rs 5000 crore NCDC loan for farm waiver

The Rajasthan government has approved a proposal to give bank guarantee for taking Rs 5,000 crore loan from National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) for funding the state government’s crop loan waiver scheme.

A loan of Rs 5,000 crore from NCDC for working capital at 8.5 percent interest rate for 270 days for crop loan waiver scheme of the state government has been approved.

The state cabinet has decided to extend farm loan waiver camps till 15 of the next month from earlier deadline of June 30. Nearly, 4,361 camps were organised in which 16.56 lakh farmers were provided loan waiver certificates worth Rs 5,077 crore.


Hima Das to be Assam sports ambassador

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has confirmed that Indian Athlete Hima Das will be named as the first sports ambassador of the state.

The announcement came after Hima Das recently became the first Indian woman to win gold at IAAF World U-20 Athletics Championships in Finland.

Das clocked 51.46s to finish ahead of Andrea Miklos of Romania and USA’s Taylor Manson.


Udaipur ranked 3rd among world’s best cities for second successive year

The city of Udaipur has once again in 2018 been ranked among the World’s Best Cities by Travel + Leisure. Udaipur, the heritage-city built by the Maharanas of Mewar in the 16th century, is on the third place among the 15 of the world’s best cities.

The top 2 cities are both in Mexico: San Miguel de Allende and Oaxaca.

Udaipur is Known as both the City of Lakes and the Venice of the East, Udaipur occupies a stunning location on the banks of Lake Pichola in south Rajasthan. Known for its breathtaking scenery, majestic palaces, world-class museums and luxury hotels, Udaipur is steeped in history, having been home to successive generations of Maharanas of Mewar.

Jana Small Finance Bank begins banking operations

Jana Small Finance Bank, former MFI – Janalakshmi Financial Services, officially launched its commercial banking operations.

The bank has received the small finance bank licence in March this year.

The transition from a micro-finance company to a bank is set to enable more than 45 lakh existing loan customers under MFI to come into the banking ecosystem by the end of 2018.

BRICS media forum to start in Cape Town

The 3rd BRICS Media Forum under the theme of “BRICS Media Cooperation – Fostering an Inclusive, Just World Order” will be held on July 18-19 in Cape Town, South Africa.

The media forum forms part of the upcoming 10th BRICS summit to be held on July 25-27 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The forum aims to improve the high-end dialogue platform for the mainstream media of BRICS countries, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

The forum is co-hosted by South Africa’s Independent Media and China’s Xinhua News Agency.


SBI Organised Kisan Mela To Educate Farmers On Financial Literacy

India’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) will organise a nation-wide Kisan Mela as an outreach programme for farmers and to impart financial literacy.

SBI expects to cover 10 lakh farmers through nearly 14,000 rural and semi-urban branches across the country in this Kisan Mela, to be held on July 18.

Kisan Mela is a one-of-its-kind initiative by SBI to connect with farmer customers, resolve their grievances and educate them about their rights and various banks initiatives.

As part of Kisan Mela, bank also offers farmers with Kisan Credit Card (KCC) an enhancement of 10 per cent to their credit limit on renewing the account.


RBI approves appointment of Girish Chaturvedi as ICICI Bank non-executive chairman

ICICI Bank has announced that RBI has approved the appointment of Girish Chandra Chaturvedi as non-executive (part time) Chairman of the bank till June 30, 2021.

The private lender had appointed the former petroleum secretary as the company’s non-executive chairman.

Last month, ICICI Bank announced that Kochhar has decided to go on leave till the completion of an external enquiry into the matter.


J&K’s 1st All-Women Branch Inaugurated At Jammu And Kashmir Bank

The First Lady Usha Vohra has e-inaugurated the first ‘All-Women Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Bank’ at a function organised at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC). It has been inaugurated as a step towards women empowerment.

Ms Vohra also launched special services and products designed exclusively for women clients of the bank, which included Pink Gold Saving Scheme, Pink Platinum Saving Scheme, Special Loan Facility for Women Entrepreneurs, Pink Gold Debit Card and Pink Platinum Credit Card.

Tata Capital Housing appoints Anil Kaul as Managing Director

The Tata Capital, the financial services arm of the Tata Group, has appointed Anil Kaul as the Managing Director of Tata Capital Housing Finance, replacing R Vaithianathan.

Kaul took over the charge from R Vaithianathan with effect from July 18, 2018.

With over 20 years of experience in the financial sector, he has held senior management positions at ICICI Bank, ICICI Lombard, Citibank NA and Standard Chartered Plc.

JK Rowling releases ‘Lethal White’ in August

J K Rowling will come out with the fourth novel ‘Lethal White’ in the series about the exploits of private investigator Cormoran Strike under her pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

Lethal White is billed by publishers as the most epic Robert Galbraith novel yet, a gripping mystery and a page- Hachette turning next instalment in the ongoing story of Strike and his assistant Robin Ellacott.

7 New Medal Events Added To Beijing Winter Games 2022

The International Olympic Committee has added seven events to the 2022 Beijing Winter Games, creating a program of 109 gold medals.

The IOC says its executive board approved women’s monobob, Big Air freestyle skiing for men and women, plus mixed team events in short track speed skating, ski jumping, ski aerials and snowboard cross.

The IOC also announced that improved gender balance will see 45.4 percent female athletes in Beijing, rising from 41.1 percent in Pyeongchang.


Javelin Thrower Neeraj Chopra Wins Gold At Sotteville Athletics Meet

Neeraj Chopra, India’s javelin star, struck Gold in the International de Sotteville-les-Rouen in France.

Chopra, who had won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year, threw 85.17 metres to bag the top prize.

While Neeraj Chopra threw a distance of 85.17 m, the second best was Adrian Mardare of Moldova who threw a distance of 81.48 m. The bronze medal went to Edis Matusevicius of Lithuania whose best was 79.31 m.


Asian Junior Wrestling C’ships: Viresh Kunda bags bronze in Greco Roman category

Viresh Kunda bags bronze in Greco Roman category at the Asian Junior Wrestling C’ships in New Delhi.

He defeated South Korea’s Jeongyul Kwon, 14-5 in the 97 kg Bronze medal play-off to win his first international medal.


OBITUARY

Noted activist Rajmata Satvashila Devi Bhosle passes away

Noted activist from Konkan region in Maharashtra, Rajmata Satvashila Devi Bhosle of Sawantwadi Sansthan passed away.

She was the wife of the last King of the Sawantwadi Kingdom late Shivramraje Bhosle who was coronated before the merger of the princely state into Union of India.
