KVIC Distributed 2330 Bee-Boxes in Kashmir

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission KVIC has created a world record of distributing maximum number of bee-boxes in one day. Two thousand three hundred thirty(2330) bee-boxes were distributed among 233 beneficiaries in the Zangalee Army area.

The KVIC made an action plan named ‘Honey Mission’ – with a target to distribute 1.3 lakh bee-boxes before November 2018 across the country and so far 27,000 bee-boxes have already been distributed.

The Chairman further added that KVIC is the nodal agency of Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) under which loans will be provided for setting up units of processing, bottling, packaging and labelling units for the honey.

Bihar CM Lays Foundation Stones For Schemes Worth Rs 875 crore

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated and laid foundation stones for more than 100 schemes, worth Rs 875 crore, of the state bridge construction corporation.

On the occasion of the 43rd establishment day of the Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Ltd, 122 schemes were inaugurated or their foundation stones laid down by the chief minister.

The function was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and ministers Nand Kishore Yadav, Krishna Kumar Rishi and Rana Randhir Singh.

President Ram Nath Kovind launched Solar Charkha Mission

The Solar Charkha Mission of the Ministry of Micro Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), will be launched by the President, Ram Nath Kovind.

The Mission will cover 50 clusters and every cluster will employ 400 to 2000 artisans. The Mission has been approved by the Government of India and will disburse subsidy of Rs. 550 crore to the artisans.

The MSME Minister further informed that 15 new state-of-the-art technology centers are being set up all over the country including North-East, of which 10 centers will become operational by March 2019. Each center is being built at a cost of around Rs. 150 crore.

The Minister further informed that under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) budgetary allocation for FY 2018-19 has been increased by 75% to Rs. 1,800 crore.


NITI Aayog to launch Composite Water Management Index

The Government think-tank Niti Aayog has prepared the Composite Water Management Index as a useful tool to assess and improve the performance in efficient management of water resources.

This index is an attempt to inspire states and UTs towards efficient and optimal utilisation of water and recycling thereof with a sense of urgency. Union Minister for Water Resources Nitin Gadkari will release the Index.

According to Niti Aayog, the index can be utilised to formulate and implement suitable strategies for better management of water resources.


Mobile Banking Rank by SBI’s Annual Report

According to State Bank of India’s (SBI) annual report for 2017-18, Axis Bank the largest value share of mobile banking transactions by 17.2% . Paytm that tops volumes with 22 percent and value share is a meagre 0.25 per cent.

ICICI Bank has a 17.1% share of transactions by value and 9.7% by volume, according to State Bank of India’s (SBI) annual report for 2017-18 which has put out Reserve Bank of India’s data for January 2018.

SBI’s volume share has slipped by over 5 percentage points from nearly 25% at the end of March 2017 to 19.5% in January 2018.


SEBI Constitutes Committee for Direct Listing of Indian firms Abroad

Market regulator, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), has formed an expert panel to mull norms for direct listing of Indian companies overseas.

At present, listing of equity share capital of companies incorporated in India is not permitted on foreign exchanges and vice versa.

The companies incorporated in India can list their debt securities on international exchanges (masala bonds), but their equity share capital can be listed abroad only through the ADR/GDR route.

Similarly, companies incorporated outside India can access the Indian capital markets only through the IDR route. Thus, presently, direct listing of equity share capital of companies incorporated in India is not permitted on foreign exchanges and vice versa.

Penguin to publish AR Rahman’s Authorised Biography

An authorised biography of AR Rahman will be out in August which will feature intimate interviews with AR Rahman, as well as anecdotes from key people from his life.

In “Notes of a Dream: The Authorized Biography of AR Rahman” by Krishna Trilok, the multiple Oscar winner opens up about his philosophies: hope, perseverance, positivity and love. Filmmaker Danny Boyle has written the foreword in the book.

Georgia’s prime minister resigns

Giorgi Kvirikashvili, prime minister of Georgia, has announced his resignation amid a disagreement with Bidzina Ivanishvili, the leader of the ruling party.

Kvirikashvili has been the country’s prime minister since 2015.

The prime minister’s resignation comes amid growing popular discontent over his government’s handling of the economy and after mass protests in recent months.

BANKING AND ECONOMY

HDFC Bank’s raises additional share capital of Rs 24,000 crore

The Union Cabinet has approved foreign direct investment (FDI) worth Rs 24,000 crore for HDFC Bank.

This is including the premium, over and above the previous approved limit of Rs 10,000 crore, such that the composite foreign shareholding in the bank shall not exceed 74 percent of the enhanced paid-up equity share capital of the bank.

With the raising of this capital, FDI in the bank would hit the regulatory ceiling of 74 percent. Currently, the FDI in HDFC Bank stands at 72.62 percent.

Yes Bank’s Shareholders Re-Appoint Rana Kapoor As MD And CEO

Yes Bank shareholders have approved the re-appointment of Rana Kapoor as the bank’s CEO and Managing Director for a period of three years effective September 1, 2018.

The approval comes after Yes Bank was hauled by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for reporting one of the highest proportion of differences in bad loan classification for two consecutive years.

Bindeshwar Pathak honoured with Japan’s prestigious Nikkei Asia Prize

The Noted social reformer and founder of Sulabh International, Bindeshwar Pathak, was honoured with Japan’s prestigiousNikkei Asia Prize for Culture and Community’ for his significant work in tackling poor hygiene and discrimination.

The award was launched in 1996 and it honours people in Asia who have made significant contributions in one of the three areas: regional growth; science, technology and innovation; and culture and community. This award was given under ‘Culture and Community’ category.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Infosys Chairman Narayana Murthy are among the few Indians who have won the prize in the past.

The other two winners were Ma Jun (Economic and Business Innovation), a Chinese environmentalist, for using the power of the internet to promote cleaner industry and Professor Nguyen Thanh Liem (Science and Technology), a Vietnamese doctor, for bringing cutting-edge medicine to children.


Jane Fonda to receive Lumiere Award

Jane Fonda will receive this year’s Lumière Award at the 10th Lumière Festival in Lyon, France.

The actress follows Lumiere Award winners such as filmmaker Wong Kar-wai, actress Catherine Deneuve, filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino.

She is a two-time Academy Award winner, two-time BAFTA Award winner, and four-time Golden Globe Award winner.

FIFA Kickoff in Russia 2018

The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held in Russia from June 14 to July 15. A total of 64 soccer matches will be played in 11 venues (in 12 stadiums as Moscow hosts two stadiums) throughout the tournament.

About 32 national teams have qualified in advance for the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals. The first World Cup was held in Uruguay in 1930. The 2014 Champion is Germany.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to be held at Qatar.

French Open 2018 Winners List

The 2018 French Open was a Grand Slam tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts. It is also known as Roland Garros.  It  is the second Grand Slam event of 2018 and 122nd edition of the French Open and. It took place at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France.

United States, Mexico and Canada Win Right to Host 2026 World Cup

The 2026 World Cup will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico after their joint bid beat Morocco’s proposal to host it.

The ‘United 2026’ bid was selected by Fifa member nations, winning 134 votes compared to 65 for Morocco.

The 2026 tournament will be the biggest World Cup ever held – with 48 teams playing 80 matches over 34 days.


OBITUARY

Eminent writer and publisher Shahzahan Bachchu passed away

A prominent Bangladeshi writer and publisher Shahzahan Bachchu has passed away in Bangladesh.

He was a former district general secretary of the Communist Party of Bangladesh and was known as a free-thinking writer. His publishing house Bishaka is based in Dhaka’s Banglabazar area.
