  • The thirty-sixth International Geological Congress was held in New Delhi. It is a joint endeavour of the Union Ministry of Mines, Union Ministry of Earth Sciences, Indian National Science Academy and the Science Academies of Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
  • The theme for International Geological Congress 2022 is ‘Geosciences: The Basic Science for a Sustainable Future’.

Nitin Gadkari launches the world’s most advanced green hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle ‘Toyota Mirai’

  • Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has launched the world’s most advanced green hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle ‘Toyota Mirai’ in New Delhi.
  • This is a first-of-its-kind project in India that aims to create a green hydrogen-based ecosystem in India by creating awareness about the unique utility of green hydrogen and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) technology.
  • It is an important initiative in promoting clean energy and protecting the environment by reducing dependence on fossil fuels and thereby making India’s’ energy self-reliant’ by 2047.

India’s Maternal Mortality Ratio improved to 103 between 2017 and 2019

  • According to the official data released by the Registrar General of India, India’s Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) improved to 103 for the period between 2017 and 2019.
  • This MMR rate was 122 between 2015 and 2017 and 113 between 2016 and 2018 . MMR is defined as the number of maternal deaths per 1,00,000 live births during a given period.

Bhagwant Mann was sworn in as the eighteenth Chief Minister of Punjab

  • Bhagwant Mann was sworn in as the eighteenth Chief Minister of Punjab by Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit. Bhagwant Mann succeeded Charanjit Singh Channi.
  • He previously served two terms as the Member of the Lower House (Lok Sabha) of the Indian Parliament representing the Sangrur constituency in Punjab from 2014 until his resignation in 2022.
  • Inderbir Singh Nijjer was appointed as the Protem Speaker of the Punjab Legislative Assembly.

Haryana Government inks a pact with Welspun One to set up warehouses in the state

  • Haryana Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Welspun One Logistics Parks (WOLP), an asset management and development platform to develop large-scale warehousing facilities in Haryana.
  • This MoU aims to explore the available government land parcels to build Grade-A warehousing facilities across key warehousing micro-markets.

  • IIT Madras Incubation Cell (IITMIC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the RBI Innovation Hub (RBIH), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), to work together in developing the ecosystem necessary to support and scale fintech startups in India.
  • Under this MoU, the two organisations will jointly provide incubation support and nurture early-stage startups with innovative and disruptive solutions and accelerate their scale-up journey.

  • JSW Cement has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Punjab Renewable Energy Systems Private Limited (PRESPL) to use agricultural waste as biomass energy in its cement-manufacturing operations.
  • Under this MoU, PRESPL will build a sustainable supply chain of agricultural waste to be utilised as biomass energy in the clinkerisation and grinding process in JSW Cement at its manufacturing units.

MV Ram Prasad Bismil becomes the longest vessel ever to sail on the Brahmaputra river

  • The Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has achieved a landmark when motor vessel (MV) Ram Prasad Bismil became the longest vessel ever to sail on the Brahmaputra river.
  • This 90-metre-long flotilla is 26 metres wide, loaded with a draft of 2.1 meters, has successfully completed the aspiring pilot run of heavy cargo movement from the Haldia Dock in Kolkata to the Pandu port in Guwahati.
