1. Nitin Gadkari inaugurates India’s first private LNG plant in Nagpur

• Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated India’s first private LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) plant in Nagpur. It has been set up by the Baidyanath Ayurvedic Group.
• LNG is a clean and cost-effective fuel.

2. Unity 22 of Virgin Galactic takes off to space

• Virgin Galactic’s first flight Unity 22, with a full crew, took off to space. Indian-origin Sirisha Bandla was a part of Virgin Galactic’s space flight.
• Virgin Galactic is a space company found by Richard Branson. The VSS Unity spacecraft will take off from New Mexico, carrying a full crew of Virgin Galactic’s employees.
• Sirisha Bandla will be the third Indian-origin woman after Kalpana Chawla and Sunitha Williams to travel into space.

• Twitter has named Vinay Prakash as its Resident Grievance Officer for India.

4. Novak Djokovic wins his sixth Wimbledon Tennis title

• Novak Djokovic of Serbia won his sixth Wimbledon Tennis title. He beat Matteo Berrettini of Italy in the Wimbledon men’s singles final 2021.
• Djokovic has become the third player after Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to win the 20 Grand Slam titles in men’s tennis singles history.
• Croatian pair Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic have won the Wimbledon men’s doubles final 2021.
• Neal Skupski of Britain and Desirae Krawczyk of the US won the Wimbledon mixed doubles title They defeated the British duo of Joe Salisbury and Harriet Dart.

• Italy won the UEFA European Championship 2020 for the second time by beating England in the penalty shootout.
• Luke Shaw scored the fastest goal in the European Championship final in 57 minutes.
• Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo finished as the top scorer at the UEFA European Championship 2020 with five goals.
• Cristiano Ronaldo was crowned as the Euro 2020 Golden Boot winner with five goals.

• Argentina won the Copa America 2021 trophy after defeating Brazil. This is Lionel Messi’s first major international trophy.

• Ramanathan Krishnan was the first Indian to win the 1954 Junior Wimbledon championship. Ramesh Krishnan won the 1970 junior Wimbledon while Leander Paes won the 1990 junior Wimbledon.

9. World Population Day – 11 July

• World Population Day is observed annually on 11 July to draw attention towards the issues arising out of the rising population across the world.
• In 1990, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) decided to observe World Population Day on 11 July. This is organised by the Population Division of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA).
• Theme 2021: “The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on fertility”
• The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), earlier known as the United Nations Fund for Population Activities and a population division was set up to plan programmes and coordinate and disseminate information about population control measures.

9. உலக மக்கள் தொகை தினம் – 11 ஜூலை

• உலகெங்கிலும் அதிகரித்து வரும் மக்கள் தொகையின் பிரச்சினைகள் குறித்து கவனத்தை ஈர்ப்பவதற்காக உலக மக்கள் தொகை தினம் ஆண்டுதோறும் 11 ஜூலை அன்று அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது.
