  • This day was first established by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in Sydney, Australia.
  • The theme for Earth Hour Day 2022 is ‘Shape our future’.

India signs a pact with WHO to set up Global Traditional Medicine Centre in Gujarat

  • India has signed an agreement World Health Organization (WHO) to establish Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
  • This global knowledge centre for traditional medicine aims to harness the potential of traditional medicine from across the world through modern science and technology to improve the health of people and the planet.

Himachal Pradesh Government signs an MoU with NIPER as knowledge partner for its medical devices park

  • Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Mohali as the knowledge partner for the medical devices park in Nalagarh, Solan district of Himachal Pradesh.
  • Himachal Pradesh’s planning department has sanctioned ₹ 74.95 crores for the development of this medical devices park to the Himachal Pradesh Implementation Agency.

Indian Army and Maharashtra Police conduct a joint security exercise named ‘Suraksha Kavach 2’

  • Indian Army Agnibaaz Division has organised a joint exercise named ‘Suraksha Kavach 2’ with Maharashtra Police at Lullanagar, Pune.
  • This exercise aims to harmonise the drills and procedures undertaken by the India Army and Maharashtra Police to counter any likely terrorist actions in Pune, Maharashtra.
  • This exercise involved the participation of the Counter-Terrorism Task Force (CTTF) of the Indian Army, Anti-Terrorism Squad of Maharashtra Police along with Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), Dog Squads and Bomb Disposal Teams.

  • Yogi Adityanath’s party won 274 seats out of the 403 seats in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections recently held in 2022.
  • Yogi Adityanath is the only Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister to be re-elected after serving a full, five-year term in three decades.

NATO extends Jens Stoltenberg’s term as Secretary-General by one year

  • North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has extended the term of Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg by one year until 30 September 2023.
  • He was the former Prime Minister of Norway. He was named as the Secretary-General of NATO in October 2014.

RBI sets a framework for geo-tagging of payment system operators

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released a framework for geo-tagging of payment system touch points, issuing instructions to bank and non-bank payment system operators to maintain and submit to it the geographical locations of their touch points regularly.
  • This is as per the announcement made in the Statement on Developmental and Regulatory Policies released with the bi-monthly Monetary Policy Statement 2021–22 by the RBI.

 

Bank of Baroda, Federal Bank, Axis Bank and Avanti Finance partner with Reserve Bank Innovation Hub to boost financial inclusion

  • Bank of Baroda, Federal Bank, Axis Bank and Avanti Finance have partnered with the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) to promote financial inclusion of women through technology.
  • Bank of Baroda will be the ‘scale-up partner’ for RBIH’s inaugural edition of its programme Swanari TechSprint, which would focus on developing digital solutions to help women achieve financial security and independence.

 

GDP Predictions

UNCTAD revises India’s FY22 GDP growth at 4.6 per cent

  • The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has revised India’s economic growth rate for FY22 to 6 per cent from 6.7 per cent due to the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict.
  • It also projected the global economic growth for CY22 at 6 per cent from 3.6 per cent.

A tripartite agreement was signed between ICIMOD, SDCL and NDPL to promote yak dairy enterprise in Nepal

  • A tripartite agreement was signed between the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), the Surketham Dairy Cooperative Limited (SDCL) and the Nepal Dairy Private Limited (NDPL) to promote yak dairy enterprise that can sustain the age-old yak herding culture in Nepal.
  • This initiative aims to develop a viable yak-based business model to generate attractive and sustainable employment opportunities for rural youth in the Kangchenjunga landscape of Nepal.

Shashi Sinha was appointed as the new Chairman of BARC India

  • The board of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India has elected Shashi Sinha as its new Chairman. He replaced Punit Goenka, who served as Chairman of the TV viewership measurement agency for three years.
  • Shashi Sinha is currently working as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IPG Mediabrands India.

 

Payments Council of India re-elects Vishwas Patel as its Chairman

  • Vishwas Patel was re-elected as the Chairman of the Payments Council of India (PCI). PCI is a payments ecosystem industry body and a part of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI).
  • Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) Praveena Rai and Co-founder and Director at BillDesk N. Srinivasu have been appointed as co-chairs of PCI’s seven committees.

 

Mukesh Jain was appointed as a Member of Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority

  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Mukesh Kumar Jain as a Member of the Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA) for a period of three years.
  • He was the former MD and CEO of the Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC). OBC Bank was merged with Punjab National Bank on 01 April 2020.

 

Justice K. N. Phaneendra was appointed as the new Upa Lokayukta of Karnataka

  • Former judge of the Karnataka High Court Justice N. Phaneendra was appointed the Upa Lokayukta of Karnataka.
  • He served as the additional district and Sessions Judge in the Bengaluru and Shivamogga districts and as the Principal District and Sessions Judge in the Udupi, Haveri and Belagavi districts.

Gujarat tops NITI Aayog’s export index for the second consecutive year

  • According to a report by the Government’s policy think tank NITI Aayog, Gujarat has topped in the Export Preparedness Index 2021.
  • Gujarat was followed by Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Haryana.
  • Lakshadweep, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Ladakh and Meghalaya were placed at the bottom of the index.
  • This Export Preparedness Index (EPI) was prepared by the NITI Aayog in partnership with the Institute of Competitiveness.
