Telangana govt announces unique life insurance scheme for farmers:
Telangana government has announced a unique life insurance scheme for farmers. Under the scheme, the government will provide life insurance facility of five lakh rupees to the nominee, after the death of the insured farmer.
The entire premium will be paid by the government to the insurance agency and the nominee will get the amount within ten days of the claim after the death of the farmer. The dependent family will get the benefit irrespective of the reason for the death of the farmer.
The farmers in the age group of 18 to 60 are eligible to enrol their names to get benefit from it.
Manipur gets first solar toilet:
Manipur has become the first state in the Northeast and the third state in India to have solar toilets, which were inaugurated at Ibudhou Marjing hill Heingang by Tourism Director, Waikhom Ibohal.
PM Modi unveils projects of Rs 27,000 cr in Jharkhand:
Prime Minister Modi visited Jharkhand . He laid the foundation stone of various projects of
Prime Minister Modi during his Jharkhand visit, laid the foundation stone of the revival of the Sindri Urea plant; The plant, shut for two decades, near Dhanbad, is being revived with an investment of about 7 thousand crore rupees.
The PM also laid the foundation stone of All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Deoghar, for strengthening health services in the state. It will cost 1,103 crore rupees. This 750 bedded hospital will be build on 237 acre land, which will be completed in the next four years. PM will also witness the exchange of MoUs for ‘jan aushadhi kendras’
PM will also laid the foundation stone of 4 thousand MegaWatt Super thermal power plant in Patratu, Ramgarh and is joint venture with NTPC. It will have three units in the first phase which will be ready by 2021 and it will cost about 18 thousand crores.
PM also laid foundation stone of development of Deoghar Airport as well Ranchi City Gas Distribution Project by GAIL.
Women Safety Division in MHA:
MHA has created a new Division to address issues of women safety comprehensively. This Division would deal with all aspects of women safety in coordination with relevant Ministries/Departments and State Governments.
Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava, AGMUT Cadre officer of 1993 batch has been posted as Joint Secretary to head this Division.
The new Division will deal with the following subjects:-
- Crimes against women, SCs&STs.
- Crimes against children, elderly persons.
- Anti-trafficking Cell.
- Matters relating to Prison legislation and prison Reforms.
- All schemes under NIRBHAYA fund.
- Crime and Criminal Tracking & Network System (CCTNS)
- National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB)
Prime Minister Narendra Modi lays foundation stone for Patratu Super Thermal Power Project:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone today for the 2400MW first phase of NTPC’s Patratu Super Thermal Power Project in Jharkhand. The project is a 74: 26 Joint Venture between Government of Jharkhand (GoJ) and Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd. (PVUN), a subsidiary company of NTPC establishing a total capacity expansion of 4,000MW.
Shri R.K. Singh, Union Minister of State (I/C), Power and New & Renewable Energy and eminent dignitaries from Jharkhand and the Centre were present on the occasion.
9th edition of ‘Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav’ under the Ministry of Culture, inaugurated in Tehri , Uttarakhand:

The North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC), Patiala has been entrusted with the responsibility as the nodal agency to carry forward the execution of the National Cultural Festival under the banner of the slogan “EK BHARAT SHRESHTHA BHARAT”. Chief Minister Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat along with other dignitaries also visited cuisine and craft stalls and interacted with artists and artisans.
Kerala, the first state in southern India, to be visited by 15th Finance Commission:
The Fifteenth Finance Commission of the Government of India is visiting the state of Kerala from 28th to 31st May 2018. The Commission led by the Chairman Shri N.K.Singh, Members – Shri Shaktikanta Das, Dr. Anoop Singh, Dr. Ashok Lahiri, Dr. Ramesh Chand and Secretary Shri Arvind Mehta along with other officials will assess the state of the finances of Kerala and the progress made in socio-economic field. Ahead of this visit, Commission understood various aspects of it from Accountant General of Kerala in New Delhi.
Kerala is the 10th largest economy in India and contributes around 4.2% of India’s GDP. Its GSDP growth rate was around 7.4% at constant price in 2016-17. State has one of the highest per capita GSDP and per capita income. In the absence of a substantive pick up in agriculture and manufacturing, the Kerala economy is largely supported by a booming service sector.

Mission Innovation (MI) Ministerial Held at Malmo, Sweden:
The third edition of the Mission Innovation Ministerial Meet was held in Malmo, Sweden.
Ministers and delegates from around 23 countries participated in the meeting.
- The Indian delegation was led by the Union Minister for Science, Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr Harsh Vardhan.
- The Minister and other delegates participated in several discussions with business leaders, clean energy innovators and policy makers to discuss plans, progress, country highlights etc.
- Mission innovation countries launched Mission Innovation Champions Programme to felicitate clean energy innovators.
- At the Solutions Summit, the MI 2020 Solutions booklet was launched.
Indo-Dutch Ganga Forum Inaugurated by the PM of Netherlands:
The Prime Minister of Netherlands Mark Rutte inaugurated the Indo-Dutch Ganga Forum in New Delhi.
Last year in June, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India and the Ministry of Infrastructure & Environment of the Netherlands.
- This forum was inaugurated in lines of that MoU.
- Mark Rutte appreciated efforts being made under the Namami Gange programme launched by the Modi Government.
- He also advocated waste-to-wealth approach to encourage sustainability of projects.
- The inauguration of the Indo-Dutch Ganga Forum was followed by a session during which issues like “Innovative Financing Models for Indo-Dutch PPP Projects” were discussed.

Union Government Notifies 8.55% Interest On PF For 2017-18
Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) asked its field offices to credit 8.55% rate of interest for 2017-18 into the Provident Fund accounts of around 5 crore subscribers.
According to an order issued by the EPFO, the Labour Ministry conveyed approval to credit 8.55% rate of interest for last fiscal.
15th Finance Commission constitutes panel for health sector:
The Fifteenth Finance Commission has constituted a High Level Group consisting of eminent experts from across the country to examine the strengths and weaknesses for enabling balanced expansion of Health Sector.
In the context of ambitious schemes like Ayushman Bharat and also keeping in mind the needs of huge young population of the country, this is considered as an important step to understand the needs of the health sector in the country.
Finance Commission also organised a conference on agriculture in Chandigarh this month.
High Level Group on Health Sector will have following Convenor and Members:

Mia Mottley elected first female Prime Minister of Barbados
The Barbados Labour Party (BLP) has won the country’s 2018 General Elections claiming all 30 seats in the country’s House of Assembly and unseating the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), which has governed the country since 2008.
The crushing victory for the BLP means that its political leader Mia Amor Mottley will be sworn in as Barbados’ first female Prime Minister since the country gained independence from Britain in 1966.
Mottley, 52, becomes Barbados’ eighth Prime Minister and the fifth female head of government in the English speaking Caribbean joining the likes of the late Dame Eugenia Charles of Dominica, Janet Jagan of Guyana, Portia Simpson Miller in Jamaica and Kamla Persad Bissessar in Trinidad and Tobago.

INSV Tarini Team Conferred Nari Shakti Puraskar 2017
The Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Maneka Gandhi presented the prestigious Nari Shakti Puraskar 2017 to the members of the INSV Tarini team in New Delhi.
INSV Tarini team is a six-member all-women team which recently circumnavigated the world.
- It was the first ever circumnavigation of the globe by an all-women Indian crew.

India bag Silver & Bronze in Archery World Cup Stage II in Turkey:
In Archery, India has opened its account at the second stage of the World Cup Stage II at Antalya in Turkey with a Silver and a Bronze medal in the Compound section.
The Women’s team of Jyothi Vennam, Muskan Kirar and Divya Dhayal settled for a Silver yesterday after losing to their Chinese Taipei opponents by three points. Later, the third-seeded Mixed pair of Jyothi and Abhishek Verma won the Bronze medal play-off to bag the second medal for India.
The Recurve Women’s team of Deepika Kumari, Promila Daimary and Ankita Bhagat will play for Bronze medal today against the archers of Chinese Taipei.
