President RamNath Kovind Inaugurated 13th Annual Convention Of CIC

President Ram Nath Kovind will inaugurate the 13th Annual Convention of Central Information Commission (CIC).

The convention is organised on the topic “Data Privacy and Right to Information, Amendment in the RTI Act and Implementation of the RTI Act”.

The convention is aimed at recommending measures for improving the transparency and accountability with a view to improve governance. The Central Information Commission (CIC) set up under the Right to Information Act is the authorised body, established in 2005, under the Government of India.


Sushma Swaraj Participates In 17th CHG Meeting Of SCO In Tajikistan

The External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will be participates in the 17th Council of Heads of Government, CHG, meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to be held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

This will be the second CHG meeting since India became a full member of SCO in June 2017. Last year, CHG meeting was held in Sochi, Russia.

It is the first major meeting since Kyrgyzstan took over as chair of the Organisation. The leaders will be discussing prospects for further development of SCO and will exchange in-depth views on current international and regional issues.


32nd edition of India-Indonesia coordinated patrol held in Indonesia: CORPAT

The 32nd edition of India – Indonesia coordinated patrol (IND-INDO CORPAT) began in Indonesia.

Indian Naval Ship Kulish, a Kora class missile corvette, commanded by Commander Deepak Bali and an Indian Dornier (naval maritime time patrol aircraft) from Andaman and Nicobar command entered Belawan harbour, Indonesia for the opening ceremony.

The delegation is led by Commodore Ashutosh Ridhorkar, Naval Component Commander, Andaman and Nicobar.


IIT-Madras Signs MoU With Tamil Nadu E-Governance Agency

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency, to enhance data driven governance in education, health care and agriculture sectors.

Tamil Nadu Government is the first state government to collaborate with IIT-M for harnessing the power of artificial intelligence and blockchain technology in areas of health, education and agriculture.

The collaboration seeks to take up research relating to data science for government and e-governance, capacity building in the areas of data science, information and communication technology, among others.

Mahesh Reddy Takes Over As PHDCCI Secretary-General

Mahesh Y Reddy has taken over as Secretary General of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Earlier, Reddy served as Director General of Infrastructure Industry and Logistics Federation of India for eight years.

PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, established in 1905, is a proactive National Apex Chamber working at the grass-root level and with strong national and international linkages.The Chamber acts as a catalyst in the promotion of industry, trade and entrepreneurship.


Pravin Srivastava appointed as India’s third Chief Statistician

The government has appointed Pravin Srivastava, a senior officer with the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), chief statistician of India (CSI).

The 1983-batch Indian Statistical Service officer has worked in the ministries of statistics and health in various positions, and briefly in the Union Public Service Commission.

He was a secretary to the Indian Statistical Commission, popularly known as the Rangarajan Commission, which laid the foundation of the modern statistical system.

World Bank’s Human Capital Index: Singapore Tops, India Ranks 115th

Singapore with an index standing at 0.88 tops the World Bank Group’s Human Capital Index released on 11th October. South Korea, Japan and Hong Kong follow Singapore on the index.Other countries like Chad, South Sudan and Niger took the lowest three spots.

India ranked 115th with an index score of 0.44.

This index creates a direct line between improving outcomes in health and education, productivity, and economic growth.


Oxfam World Inequality Index 2018: India Ranks 147th, Denmark Tops

The UK-based charity Oxfam International’s ‘Commitment to Reducing Inequality (CRI) Index’ ranks India 147th among 157 countries analysed, describing the country’s commitment to reducing inequality as a “a very worrying situation” .

The index is topped by Denmark, based on its high and progressive taxation, high social spending and good protection of workers.  Japan, the top-ranking Asian country, came in at 11th on the index.

Indus Towers Wins Deming Prize For 2018

Indus Towers, world’s largest telecom tower company (outside China), won the Deming Prize for 2018, being the first Indian company in the service sector and the fifth in the world to achieve this.

The Deming Prize was bestowed on Indus Towers for distinctive performance improvements through the application of Total Quality Management (TQM) practices.

Indus Towers becomes the first Indian company in the service sector and fifth globally to achieve this feat.

The Deming Prize is the oldest and most widely recognized, given to companies that have established customer-oriented business objectives and strategies, and implemented TQM to achieve them.


SPORTS

Bajrang Punia first Indian to get seeded at World Wrestling Championship

Bajrang Punia has become the first Indian to feature in the top seeds of World Wrestling Championships to be held in Budapest, Hungary.

He is seeded third in the 65 kg class in the men’s freestyle event. He is accorded the pride of place with 45 points in the ranking list released by the United World Wrestling, the parent body of wrestling.

Turkey’s Selahattin Kilicsallayan is the top seed (50 points) in the 65 kg class weight category.


Olly: Mascot for 2018 Hockey World Cup revealed at Puri Beach

The Turtle ‘Olly’ has been made the mascot for the Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup scheduled to be held at the Kalinga Stadium here from November 28 to December 16.

‘Olly’ represents the endangered Olive Ridley sea turtles that travel thousands of miles in the ocean and arrive in millions every year on Odisha’s Rushikulya and Gahirmatha beaches for their annual nesting.

It was also the mascot for Asian Athletics Championships held at the stadium last year.
