EAM Sushma Swaraj launched ‘India for Humanity’ initiative in New Delhi

The External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has formally launched ‘India for Humanity’ initiative to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The initiative will feature a year-long series of artificial limb fitment camps in a number of countries spanning the globe.

The MEA is collaborating with the renowned charitable organisation — “Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti” (BMVSS) for the implementation.

The larger aim is to provide for the physical, economic and social rehabilitation of the differently-abled around the world.


Nitin Gadkari to lay the foundation stone for development of Ghagra River as National Waterway

The Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport & Highways and Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation Shri Nitin Gadkari will lay the foundation stone for the development work of Ghagra river as National Waterway (NW)-40 at Basti in Uttar Pradesh, under the Sagarmala Programme of Ministry of Shipping.

The waterway will stretch from Manjhighat at Ganga-Gaghra river confluence to Faizabad or Ayodhya along Gaghra River for a length of 354 km.

The Detailed Project Report on the development of NW-40 envisages terminal at five locations – Ayodhya, Mahirpur (Tanda/Kalwari), Dohrighat, Tortipar and Manjhighat.


Minister of State for Commerce Attends India–West Africa Conclave in Nigeria

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)- EXIM Bank, Regional Conclave on India-West Africa Project Partnership is being held in Abuja, Nigeria.

Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs and Food & Public Distribution, C. R. Chaudhary, is leading the Indian delegation.

The Conclave is a two-day event with focus on business deliberations, Business to Government (B2G) and Business to Business (B2B) engagements.

India has supported Niger to build Mahatma Gandhi International Convention Centre (MGICC) in Niamey in Niger at the cost of USD 35.5 million on grant basis.


Government reconstitutes Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority

The Centre has reconstituted Supreme Court-empowered Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority or the EPCA, which is tasked with taking various measures to tackle air pollution in the National Capital Region. The Former secretary Bhure Lal continues to be the chairman.

The EPCA was constituted with the objective of protecting and improving the quality of the environment and preventing and controlling the environmental pollution in the National Capital Region.

The EPCA is also mandated to enforce Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in the city as per the pollution levels.


UNICEF signed MoU with NASSCOM to strengthen child rights

UNICEF and NASSCOM Foundation has signed an agreement to strengthen child rights.

With this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the two organisations will work collaboratively on two key areas including national sensitisation on ‘child online protection’ and ‘encouraging innovations for child rights’ in India.

They help parents, teachers and children by letting them know of these risks and guiding them to a safer, more secure Internet learning experience.

Pakistan Test-Fires Nuclear-Capable Ghauri Ballistic Missile

Pakistan has successfully test-fired Ghauri ballistic missile which is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads up to a distance of 1,300 kilometers, bringing many Indian cities under its range.

The launch was conducted by Army Strategic Forces Command and was aimed at testing the operational and technical readiness of Army Strategic Forces Command.

In April, Pakistan successfully test fired an enhanced version of the indigenously-built Babur cruise missile that can deliver conventional and non-conventional weapons with a range of 700 kilometres.


Google To Shut Down Google+

Google will shut down the consumer version of its social network Google+ after announcing data from up to 500,000 users may have been exposed to external developers by a bug that was present for more than two years in its systems.

It is a bug in the API for Google+ had been allowing third-party app developers to access the data not just of users who had granted permission.


“Clear Sky 2018”: Ukraine launched air exercises with NATO countries

Ukraine has opened a series of large-scale air-force exercises with the United States and seven other NATO countries.

The 12-day-long “Clear Sky 2018” war games are being held in western Ukraine.

The NATO member countries are the United States, Britain, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Poland, and Romania.

The U.S. aircraft including F-15C Eagle fighter planes and C-130J Super Hercules military transport planes and drones will train with about 30 Ukrainian aircraft.

The aim is to enhance regional capabilities to secure air sovereignty and promote peace and security through cooperation.


Mobile Health app for citizens of India Launched by IAF

The Indian Air Force has launched an innovative mobile health App named ‘MedWatch’.‘ MedWatch’ will provide correct, Scientific and authentic health information to airwarriors and all citizens of India.

The app is conceived by the doctors of IAF and developed in house by Directorate of Information Technology (DIT) with ZERO financial outlay.

‘MedWatch’ is the first mobile health app in the three Armed Services and was launched by Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa.

Nikki Haley resigns as US ambassador to the UN

The US President Donald Trump has accepted Nikki Haley’s resignation as US ambassador to the United Nations.

Nikki Haley became the third senior member of Donald Trump’s national security team.

US President Donald Trump has accepted Nikki Haley’s resignation as US ambassador to the United Nations.

Before she was named by Trump to her UN post, Haley was governor of South Carolina, the first woman to hold the post. She was re-elected in 2014.

England defender John Terry retires from football

The Former England captain John Terry announced his retirement from football. Terry, capped 78 times by England.

Terry, who spent the bulk of his career with Chelsea, captained second-tier Aston Villa last season.

For Chelsea he won five Premier League titles, five FA Cups and the 2011-12 Champions League.


Weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga claims India’s first Youth Olympics gold

The Weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga notched up India’s maiden gold medal at the Youth Olympics, claiming the top honours in the men’s 62 kg category. The event was held at Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The silver medal went to Turkey’s Toptas Caner while Colombia’s Villar Estiven Jose took the bronze.

Earlier this year, Lalrinnunga claimed a silver (youth) and a bronze (junior) in the Asian Championships.


Senegal to host 2022 Youth Olympic Games

Senegal was officially confirmed as the host of the 2022 summer Youth Olympic Games at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session.

The African country has thus become the first African host of any Olympic event.

It was unanimously chosen in a vote of IOC members in Buenos Aires where the third edition of the Youth Olympics.
