  • The Delhi Government launched the ‘Desh Ke Mentors’ programme across all its schools to provide career guidance to the students of classes 9 to 12 through the people (mentors) who are experts in their field, giving students insight into diverse career options.
  • The Delhi Technological University (DTU) has developed an application through which any adult who wishes to mentor children can register themselves and guide the students over the phone every week.
  • Actor Sonu Sood is the brand ambassador of this ‘Desh Ke Mentors’ initiative.

Axis Bank launches open APIs for customers to use integrated services

  • Axis Bank has launched open APIs (Application Programming Interface) to facilitate its retail and corporate customers/ partners to facilitate banking services integrated across partner platforms.
  • This API banking portal has a range of products covering over 200 retail APIs across cards, deposits, accounts, loans and 51 corporate APIs across payments, trade, collections, bill payments and cross-cutting APIs.
  • These APIs allow Axis Bank’s banking solutions to get embedded through direct integration with the customers’ digital systems without the need for a net banking interface.

IIFL Finance launches an instant business loan on WhatsApp

  • IIFL Finance has launched an instant business loan on WhatsApp, under which the users will be able to avail loans up to 10 lakhs with minimum documentation and get approval in five minutes.
  • IIFL Finance is using an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-bot that screens users’ inputs to the loan offer and facilitates the application through Know Your Customer (KYC), bank account verification (BAV) and mandate setup.
  • To avail loan from IIFL Finance through WhatsApp, the user will have to send a ‘Hi’ message to a specified number, then share basic details, complete KYC, verify bank transfer details, mandate registration and receive funds in their account instantly.

David Card, Joshua Angrist and Guido Imbens receive the Nobel Prize for Economic Sciences 2021

  • The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the Nobel Prize for Economic Sciences 2021 to three economists David Card of the University of California at Berkeley, Joshua Angrist from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Guido Imbens from Stanford University.
  • David Card has been awarded “for his empirical contributions to labour economics”, while Joshua D Angrist and Guido W Imbens got the prize “for their methodological contributions to the analysis of causal relationships.”

Kanyakumari clove from Tamil Nadu receives  the Geographical Indication (GI) tag

  • The unique clove growing in the hills of Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu has been awarded a Geographical Indication (GI) as ‘Kanyakumari clove’.
  • It is cultivated in an area of 750 hectares in the slopes of the Western Ghats of Kanyakumari district, such as Karumpara, Maramalai, Mahendragiri and Velimalai and the total area covers 73 per cent of the clove cultivation in Tamil Nadu.

Astronautical Society of India confers the Aryabhata Award to DRDO Chairman G. Satheesh Reddy

The second phase of the Malabar naval exercise 2021 begins in the Bay of Bengal

  • The Quad countries – India, US, Japan and Australia, began the second phase of the Malabar naval exercise 2021 in the Bay of Bengal from 12–15 October 2021 to focus on advanced surface and anti-submarine warfare exercises, seamanship evolution and weapon firings.
  • The Indian naval ships INS Ranvijay, INS Satpura, P-8I long-range maritime patrol aircraft and a submarine participated in the second phase of the Malabar exercise.

Malayalam film actor Nedumudi Venu passed away

  • Veteran malayalam actor Kesavan Venugopal, popularly known as Nedumudi Venu, passed away at the age of 73.
  • He won three National Film Awards and six Kerala State Film Awards for his performances.
  • His best films include Aravam, Vidaparayum Munpe, Kallan Pavithran, Chamaram, Bharatham, Oru Minnaminunginte Nurunguvettam, Chithram, Thenmavin Kombath, His Highness Abdullah, Margam and Arimpara.

Current IFFCO Chairman Balvinder Singh Nakai passed away

  • Current Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) Chairman Balvinder Singh Nakai passed away at the age of 87.
  • He was an eminent farmer and cooperator and was involved in providing strength to the Indian cooperative movement for the past three decades.
