NATIONAL

Japan and Gujarat signed agreements on bilateral cooperation

Japan and Gujarat has signed agreements to promote bilateral cooperation in culture, business and interaction between the academia. These agreements were signed during the ongoing visit of a delegation from Gujarat led by Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel to Japan.

The MoUs were signed between 115-year-old Japan India Association (JIA) on the Japanese side and Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) and Indo Japan Friendship Association.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency, JICA is contributing Rs 1.08 lakh crore for the bullet train project between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. The Japan External Trade Organization, JETRO is coordinating and facilitating investment of Japanese companies in industrial clusters in north Gujarat.

Gujarat constitutes about 40 per cent of the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), which are being developed with Japanese aid.

International Aviation Summit Held in New Delhi

The International Aviation Summit was held in New Delhi and it was organized by the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), the Airports Authority India (AAI) and International Air Transport Association.

The Summit commemorates the approaching milestone of 50-straight months of double digit domestic growth for Indian aviation.

The Vision 2035 plans to build 100 new airports across India in the next 10-15 years with an investment of USD 60 billion and address the major issues concerning aviation industry such as airport infrastructure, taxation and use of technology.


Rajasthan govt to provide free mobile phones to women of BPL families

In a bid to boost Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship ‘Digital India’ campaign, Rajasthan government will soon distribute mobile phones to women under the Bhamashah Yojana.

Focused on women who fall under the Below Poverty Line (BPL), the scheme aims to transfer financial and non-financial benefits of governmental schemes in a transparent manner.

The state government will also provide free Wifi facilities to as many as 5,000 gram panchayats to ensure that the state is well connected with the outside world.


Government launches Coffee Connect app and Krishi Tharanga project

The Minister for Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu has launched Coffee Connect – India coffee field force app and Coffee Krishi Tharanga – digital mobile extension services for coffee stakeholders.

The mobile app Coffee Connect has been developed to ease the work of field functionaries and to improve the work efficiency. It will also help in transparency in the activities of the extension officers and officials, transparency in subsidy disbursement and real time report generation.

The Coffee KrishiTharanga services are aimed at providing customized information and services to increase productivity, profitability, and environmental sustainability.

NABARD has partly funded the Pilot project. These initiatives are aimed at benefiting all stakeholders in the coffee value chain.


Pranab Mukherjee Inaugurates Smartgram Yojana Projects In Haryana

The Former President Pranab Mukherjee and  Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurates projects under the Smartgram Yojna.

The Smartgram Project in Haryana started in July 2016, when Shri Pranab Mukherjee adopted some villages as the serving President. Under the scheme, Pranab Mukherjee had adopted five villages in 2016, when he was still the President.

A smart gram will have the required basic physical and social infrastructure with a layer of smart information and communication embedded in the infrastructure.


Govt approves proposal to increase wages of artisans by over 36 per cent

The Government has approved a proposal by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) to increase wages of artisans by over 36 percent, from five rupees 50 paisa per hank to seven rupees 50 paisa.

The enhancement in wages will draw youth towards taking up spinning as a profession. It was announced by KVIC Chairman V K Saxena.

This proposal for increase in wages to Khadi spinners, along with payment of government subsidy Modified Market Development Assistance (MMDA), will be implemented with effect from August 15, 2018.

International Women Entrepreneurs Summit held in Nepal

The International Women Entrepreneurs Summit 2018 is being held in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The Vice President of Nepal Nanda Bahadur Pun inaugurated the summit.

The theme of 3-day event is “Equality begins with Economic Empowerment”.

The main objective of the summit is to bring together achievers, women business leaders, professionals, international service providers etc., with a focus on innovative economic transformation through discussions and collaborations. The event is organised by the South Asian Women Development Forum.


Typhoon Jebi leaves trail of destruction across Japan

A powerful typhoon “Jebi” slammed into western Japan. Jebi, reportedly the strongest typhoon to make landfall in Japan since 1993.

The typhoon first made landfall on Japan’s southwestern island of Shikoku and then again near Kobe on Honshu. It was with sustained winds of 126 kilometers per hour and gusts up to 180 kph.

KAZIND 2018: Indo-Kazakhstan joint military exercise to be held in Otar region, Kazakhstan

 

The Indo-Kazakhstan Joint Army Exercise ‘KAZIND’ will be conducted between the Indian and Kazakhstan Army in Otar region, Kazakhstan.

This is the third joint military exercise between the two countries which have a history of extensive cooperation in the defence arena.

The aim of the exercise is to build and promote bilateral Army to Army relations and exchange skills and experiences between Kazakhstan Army and the Indian Army.

Ukraine Conducts Joint Military Exercises With NATO

Ukraine has launched joint military exercises with the U.S. and a string of other NATO countries.

The annual Rapid Trident military exercises, taking place in the western Ukrainian village of Starychi, involve some 2,200 soldiers from 14 countries. About 350 pieces of military equipment will be used during the exercises.

NABARD sanctioned Rs 335 crore under RIDF to West Bengal

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development has sanctioned an amount of Rs 335 crore under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) to West Bengal.

The fund, allocated would be used for 158 minor irrigation projects and 23 flood protection projects.

With this, the cumulative RIDF loan assistance to the state government during the year stands at Rs 1,172.16 crore.

Amazon follows Apple to cross trillion-dollar milestone

The Amazon.com became the second U.S. company to reach $1 trillion in stock market value, just weeks after Apple hit the same milestone on August 2.

Shares in the world’s largest online retailer last traded up 1.4% at $2,041.68. Its shares hit the $2050.2677 level to give its stock a value of $1 trillion.

The company’s success made its founder and CEO, Jeff Bezos, No. 1 on Forbes’ billionaires list.

Arif Alvi Elected Pakistan’s New President

Arif Alvi, a close ally of Prime Minister Imran Khan and one of the founding members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, was elected as President of Pakistan.

He defeated Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Aitzaz Ahsan and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz nominee Maulana Fazlur Rehman to become the 13th President.

The new President will take the oath of the office on September 9. The outgoing President Mamnoon Hussain’s five-year tenure ends on September 8.


Ranjan Gogoi will become 46th Chief Justice of India

The Chief Justice Dipak Misra has recommended the Justice Ranjan Gogoi as his successor. He would take charge as the 46th Chief Justice of India.

Justice Gogoi who was elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court in April 2012.

The Supreme Court of India is the highest judicial forum and final court of appeal under the Constitution of India.

National Teachers Day – September 5

The birth date of the second President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, 5 September 1888, has been celebrated as Teacher’s Day since 1962.

The Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu will confer the National Teachers’ Award this year on the occasion of Teachers’ Day on September 5.

The award was Instituted in 1958 to commemorate the second President of India S. Radhakrishnan, a renowned educationist, the award was earlier conferred by the President of India.


International Day of CharitySeptember 5

The International Day of Charity is observed annually on 5 September. It was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012.

The prime purpose of the International Day of Charity is to raise awareness and provide a common platform for charity related activities all over the world for individuals, charitable, philanthropic and volunteer organizations for their own purposes on the local, national, regional and international level.

Indian Shooter Om Prakash bags gold at ISSF World Championship

Indian shooter Om Prakash Mitharwal clinched his maiden gold medal at the ISSF World Championships, claiming the top honours in the 50m pistol event.

The silver was won by Serbia’s Damir Mikec (562), while the bronze went to Daemyung Lee (560).

In the junior competition, the duo of Asian Games gold-medallist Saurabh Chaudhary and Abhidnya Patil brought India the 10m air pistol mixed team bronze.


OBITUARY

Gujarati author and journalist Bhagwati Kumar Sharma Passes Away

Bhagwati Kumar Sharma, a Gujarati language author, and journalist has passed away. He was rewarded with Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak award in 1984 and Sahitya Akademi Award in 1988 for his distinguished work in literature.

The first poem he wrote was on Mahatma Gandhi’s death on January 31, 1948. Later in 2009 he was elected as the president of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad and remained on the position till 2011.
