Piyush Goyal Launched ‘AAPOORTI’ App Of ‘Indian Railways e-Procurement System’

Piyush Goyal-led Railway Ministry has launched the Aapoorti mobile app of Indian Railways e-procurement system (IREPS).

The Aapoorti mobile app has been launched in a bid to provide information as well as data related to e-tendering and e-auction related activities of the national transporter.

Users of this mobile app can see details related to tenders published, tenders closed as well as purchase orders that have been placed.


INTERNATIONAL

India, France signed pact to reduce GHG emissions in urban transports

India and France have signed an implementation agreement on “Mobilise Your City” (MYC) in the presence of Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) Hardeep Singh Puri and Alexander Ziegler, Ambassador of France in India.

The agreement was signed by Mukund Kumar Sinha, OSD and Ex-Officio Joint Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for India, while Regional Director, Agence Française de Developpement (AfD), Nicolas Fornage, signed the agreement on behalf of AfD.

MYC is part of an international initiative which is supported by the French and German Governments and was launched at the 21st Conference of Parties (COP21) meeting in December, 2015.

The MYC will support three pilot cities — Nagpur, Kochi and Ahmedabad – in their efforts to reduce their Green House Gas (GHG) emissions.


87th Izmir International Trade show Begins in Turkey

India is the Partner Country in the 87th Izmir International trade show which begins in Turkey.

In this trade show India will also be launching a mega business pavilion ‘Source India’ hosting 75 Indian companies. It aims for tie-ups in order to increase India’s exports to Turkey and other neighbouring countries.

This is part of a series of Source India pavilions that the Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI) is hosting in important trade shows across the world for boosting India’s exports.

India-Czech Republic signed 5 Agreements

India and the Czech Republic signed five agreements as part of President Kovind’s visit.

These agreements are  Cooperation between Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, India, and the Czech Academy of Sciences, A visa waiver agreement for diplomatic passport holders, A work plan to support Indo-Czech projects in diverse areas of science and technology, with the Department of Science and Technology taking the lead from the Indian side; Cooperation in laser technology between ELI Beamlines and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, and Cooperation between the Haryana Agricultural University and the Czech University of Life Sciences.

BANKING AND ECONOMY

Card-less cash withdrawal at 20,000 IMT ATMs enabled by Airtel Payments Bank

Airtel Payment Bank’s savings account holders will now be able to withdraw cash from ATMs with their mobile phones instead of using debit or credit cards.

For this Airtel has partnered with Empays to enable Instant Money Transfer for account holders to withdraw cash from over 20,000 IMT enabled ATMs in India.

The IMT service can be accessed by account holders via USSD (*400#) and MyAirtel app.


Government extends Atal Pension Yojana indefinitely

The Union Cabinet has decided to indefinitely extend the Atal Pension Scheme, which lapsed in August, and doubled the accident insurance and relaxed the age criteria by five years to further incentivise the scheme.

Atal Pension Yojana (APY) is a social security scheme launched by the government in 2015 to provide a defined pension between Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000.

Earlier, people of age 18 to 60 years were entitled to enrol in the scheme, now it has relaxed it further to 65 years.

All accounts opened after August 28 will have an accident insurance limit of Rs 2 lakh, double the earlier Rs 1 lakh limit.

Anne Hathaway ro receive Human Rights award

The Hollywood star Anne Hathaway is set to be honoured with the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) National Equality Award.

The actor will be given the prestigious honour at the 22nd annual HRC National Dinner.

She has been given in recognition of her continued charity work, particularly with women and the LGBTQ community.

SBI appoints Anshula Kant as Managing Director

The State Bank of India has announced that the Government has appointed Anshula Kant as Managing Director of the Bank.

Prior this appointment, Kant was the bank’s Deputy Managing Director. With this appointment SBI now has four MDs – PK Gupta, DK Khara and Arijit Basu.

HDFC Bank is India’s most valued brand for 5th year in a row

HDFC Bank retained its top spot in the BrandZ India Top 50 for the fifth year in a row, growing its brand value by 21 percent to $21.7 billion in 2018.

Insurance brand LIC comes in at the second spot ($19.8 billion) due to the key role played by its pension plan business, while Tata Consultancy Services ranked third ($15 billion), having leveraged digital technologies to drive growth and business transformation.

Other new high-ranking brands include e-commerce retailer Flipkart (No 11, $4.1 billion), e-commerce payment wallet Paytm (No 12, $4.1 billion) and Zee TV (No 15, $3.8 billion).

Book ,Shades of Truth – A Journey Derailed by Kapil Sibal released

The congress leader Kapil Sibal has launched his new book, “Shades of Truth – A Journey Derailed”, that aims to highlight the failures of the Narendra Modi government.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former Vice-President Hamid Ansari were present at the book launch, held at Teen Murti Bhawan in Delhi.

ISSF World Cship: Hriday Hazarika bags gold in 10m air rifles

Hriday Hazarika notched up a gold medal in the 10m air rifle junior men’s event of the shooting championship. The event was held at Changwon, South Korea.

Iran’s Mohammed Amir Nekounam clinched the silver medal. The bronze went to Russia’s Grigorii Shamakov, who managed a score of 228.6 in the final.


Neymar appointed permanent captain of Brazilian football team

The Paris Sain-Germain striker Neymar has been appointed as the permanent captain of Brazil’s national team.

Brazil had crashed out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup after losing to Belgium 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the prestigious event.

OBITUARY

The Iconic actor Burt Reynolds passed away

Burt Reynolds, the handsome film and television star known for his acclaimed performances in Deliverance and Boogie Nights, commercial hits has passed away.

His hits include Smokey and the Bandit and for an active off-screen love life which included relationships with Loni Anderson and Sally Field.

He won the Florida Drama Award in 1958 for his performance in the role John Garfield made famous in Outward Bound.

International Literacy Day- September 8

The 8 September was declared International Literacy Day by UNESCO.

It was celebrated for the first time in 1967. Its aim is to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies. Celebrations take place in several countries.
