Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting inaugurates the ‘First Himalayan Film Festival’ in Leh

  • Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur inaugurated the first editon of the five-day Himalayan Film Festival at Leh in Ladakh under the celebrations of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ commemorating 75 years of Indian independence.
  • This festival hasset of workshops and master classes organised wherein filmmakers, critics and technicians from the Himalayan region are going to be to impart knowledge and skill to local film enthusiasts.

Union Ministry of Civil Aviation releases India’s airspace map for drone operations

  • Union Ministry of Civil Aviation released India’s airspace map for drone operations under the collective vision of an ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ in which the map is available on the DGCA’s digital sky platform at https://digitalsky.dgca.gov.in/home.
  • The drone airspace map is a follow-up to the Indian Government’s liberalised Drone Rules 2021, which includes the PLI (Production Linked Incentive) plan for drones which was issued on 25 August.

Union Government notifies a scheme for the promotion of Medical Device Parks

  • The Union Government has taken a key initiative to support the medical devices industry to reach its potential in the coming years under the ‘Promotion of Medical Device Parks’ scheme.
  • The objective of this scheme is the significant reduction in the cost of medical device production, resulting in better availability and affordability of medical devices in the domestic market and reaping the benefits arising from resale price optimisation.
  • The total financial outlay of the scheme is Rs. 400 crores and the tenure of the scheme is from FY 2020–2021 to FY 2024–2025.

Naga cucumber from Nagaland gets the GI tag under agricultural products

  • The Naga Cucumber (sweet cucumber)was recently granted the Geographical Indication (GI) tag under agricultural products of the Geographical Indications of Goods(Registration & Protection)Act, 1999.
  • Cucumber has been traditionally cultivated by Naga farmers in their Jhum fields as a mixed crop,mainly during the Kharif season (April–May).

  • He is the first officer from the Army Air Defence to be elevated to the rank of Army Commander.

  • After the evaluation of the World Book Capital Advisory Committee, Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay has nominated Accra (Ghana) as the 23rd city to be named as the UNESCO World Book Capital for 2023 after Guadalajara (Mexico) in 2022.
  • Accra was chosen because of its significant emphasis on young people and their potential to contribute to Ghana’s culture and prosperity.

Mumbai emerges as the world’s top ‘emerging ecosystem’for start-ups: Global Start-up Ecosystem Ranking

  • According to Genome’s Global Start-up Ecosystem Ranking, Mumbai has emerged as the world’s top ‘Emerging Ecosystem’ for start-ups in terms of performance, funding, experience and talent and Experience,whereas Bengaluru is ranked 23rd and Delhi is ranked 36th.
  • Silicon Valley is ranked 1st followed by New York City and London.

Indian Army is set to organise ‘Bijoya Sanskritik Mahotsav’ at Kolkata

  • The Indian Army will organise a festival named ‘Bijoya Sanskritik Mahotsav’. This festival is being organised by the Eastern Command of the Indian Army from 26–29 September at Kolkata to showcase the cultural linkage between India and Bangladesh during the Liberation War of 1971.
