INTRODUCTION TO PIPES AND CISTERN:
Today,we are going to look on Pipes and Cisterns. Before looking into Pipes and Cistern Part-3 Let us look into Pipe and Cistern Part-1 & 2
#.6.TYPE 6:
BASED ON LEAKAGE:
1)Pipe A can fill the tank in 8 hours But due to leakage it takes 2 more hours to fill the tank .Then how long will it take to empty the filled tank due to leakage?
Given that,
Pipe A can fill the tank in 8 hours but due to leakage it takes 10 hours to fill the tank
Total Capacity of the tank=LCM(8,10)=80litres
Efficiency of Pipe A without Leakage=80/8=10litres/hour
Efficiency of Pipe B with Leakage=80/10 = 8 litres/hour
So,due to leakage 2lt/hr is waasted
Time taken to empty the tank due to leakage=80/2=40 hours
#.7 TYPE 7:
FINDING NUMBER OF INLET AND OUTLET PIPES:
1) There are 12 Pipes Connected to the cistern, some of them are Inlet Pipes and some of them are Outlet Pipes. Each of the fill pipe can fill the tank in 8 hours and the drain pipe can drain in 6 hours. If all the pipes are kept open,an empty tank gets filled in 24 hours. How many of the 12 Pipes are fill pipes?
Givent that,
Inlet Pipe can fill the tank in 8 hours & Outlet Pipe can drain the tank in 6 hours
Therefore,Total Capacity=LCM(8,6)=24 lilres
Efficiency of Inlet Pipe=24/8=3 litres/hour
Efficiency of Outlet Pipe=24/6=4 litres/hour
Since,we are given that,it takes 24 hours to fill the tank when all the pipes are opened together.
From the above Statement,it is clear that number of Inlet Pipe should be more than the Outlet Pipe and their difference is 1.
Let the number of inlet pipes be X
Therefore,
3X-4(12-x)=1
3X-48+4X=1
7X=49
X=7
Therefore there will be 7 Inlet Pipes and 5 Outlet Pipes
#.8.TYPE 8:
BASED ON CAPACITY:
1)Inlet Pipe can fill the tank in 5 hours,Outlet Pipe can empty the tank in 36 hours. How many additional outlets of the same capacity are required to be opened. So,that the tank never overflows?
Given that,
Inlet Pipe can fill the tank in 5 hours,Outlet Pipe can empty the tank in 36 hours
Total Capacity=LCM(5,36)=180 litres
Inlet Pipe’s Efficiency=180/5=36 litres/hour
Outlet Pipe’s Efficiency=180/36=5 litres/hour
Given that, the tank shouldn’t overflow.so,the Inlet Pipe should be less than or equal to the outlet pipe
=36/5=7.2 Let’s keep it as 8 if we keep it as 7 then the tank overflows
So,the total Outlet Pipe=8
There is already 1 outlet Pipe So,We need additional 7 outlet pipe
