Assam Announces “Free Education for Girls”:

       

The government of Assam made an historical announcement of making education upto university level free for all girls in the state. The government also announced a draft population policy which suggested denial of government jobs to people with more than two children.


Delhi’s iconic Lodhi Gardens celebrates 81st year:

The Delhi city’s iconic Lodhi Gardens, home to historic tombs and exotic plants and bird species, turned 81. The horticultural delight, nestled in the heart of Delhi, was opened on April 9, 1936, as with an area of 90 acres. ‘The Lady Willingdon Park’ named after the Vicerine of India.


TU-142M’s patrol transform into Museum:

The Russian made TU-142M, the long range maritime patrol aircraft of the Indian Navy made its last landing in Visakhapatnam. The state government has planned to convert into a museum which will set up near INS Kurusura submarine museum. The TU-142M was designed by Tupolev and manufactured by Kuibyshev Aviation in Russia. Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority plans to complete the museum by June end.


MP govt starts ambitious Rs 5 thali under ‘Deendayal Rasoi Yojana’:

          Madhya Pradesh government kick-started its ambitious ‘Deendayal Rasoi Yojana’ under which subsidised meals will be available at Rs 5 per plate to people, especially the economically disadvantaged sections of society. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the scheme at Gwalior, while in Bhopal mayor Alok Sharma inaugurated the scheme.


Agriculture Ministry, ISRO wing to geo-tag agricultural assets:

          The Agriculture Ministry joined hands with the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), a wing of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), to geo-tag agricultural assets. It would help bring transparency in governance due to real-time monitoring and utilisation of agricultural assets.

India, Russia team up to promote innovation, R&D:

          India has signed a joint declaration with Russia to promote innovation and the R&D ecosystem between the two countries. The declaration was signed between the Department of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation on the sidelines of the Global R&D Summit 2017 held in Bangalore.


India, Mongolia ‘cross swords’:

          The 12th “iteration of Indo-Mongolian Joint Military Exercise Nomadic Elephant is presently under way at Vairengte from 05 April 2017 till 18 April 2017.” The joint training will also lay emphasis on conducting operations by a joint subunit, comprising of troops from both the armies, in adverse operational conditions aimed at enhancing the interoperability between the two armies.

Paytm Mall rolls out QR code feature:

     

Paytm Mall, is rolling out a new feature to place online orders at physical stores using QR Code. Paytm is the first company to invest in QR code-based payment solution and has created an offline merchant network where consumers can scan and pay.


 Central Bank of India customer wins Rs 1 crore under government scheme to promote digital payments:

          A Central Bank of India customer has won the lucky prize of Rs 1 crore under a government scheme to promote cashless transactions. President Pranab Mukherjee picked the six lucky winners – three customers and three merchants – at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi.

A Bank of Baroda customer won the second prize of Rs 50 lakh and a Punjab National Bank customer got Rs 25 lakh as the third prize under the Lucky Grahak Yojana and Digi Dhan Vyapar Yojana. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hand over the prizes at a function in Nagpur on April 14.


Samsung India’s R&D unit tops chart of IT patent applicants:

          Samsung R&D Institute India filed the maximum number of patent applications in the IT sector in 2015-16, followed by home-grown TCS and Wipro. According to the annual report of Office of the Controller General of patents, designs, trademarks and geographical indications, the other top applicants include premier Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs) and HCL Technologies.

Dame Asha Khemka wins “Asian Businesswoman of the Year” award:

Dame Asha Khemka, an Indian-origin educationist in the UK, who moved to Britain after her marriage with no English language skills, has been named the “Asian Businesswoman of the Year” award. She is working as Principal and CEO of West Nottinghamshire College.

Pak. Squash Team to play in Chennai:

The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), an official arm of the Ministry of Education, reported that their team will participate in the upcoming squash meet in the city. The team is participating in the 19th Asian individual Squash Championship to be held in Chennai.


Patnaik selected for Moscow Championship:

Noted sand artist from Odisha Sudarsan Pattnaik has been selected to represent India in the 10th Moscow Sand Art Championship 2017. With a theme “The World Around us”, the championship is scheduled to be held from April 22 to 28 at Kolomenskoye, Moscow. In the 9th edition of the championship last year, Mr. Pattnaik had won the gold medal.


Ajay Malik and Sandeepti Singh Rao heads Wimbledon Masters U-14:

Ajay Malik and Sandeepti Singh Rao will head the 16 players in the boy’s and girl’s sections of the HSBC Road to Wimbledon Masters under-14 tennis tournament to be played on the grass courts of the Gymkhana Club.

April 10 – World Homeopathy Day:

The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH, Shri pad Yesso Naik inaugurated the National convention on World Homeopathy Day on 10th April 2017 at New Delhi. The event was organized to commemorate the 262nd birth anniversary of the founder of Homeopathy, Dr.Christian Friedrich  Samuel Hahnemann.

Theme of the event: “Quality Research In Homeopathy Through Scientific evidence and rich clinical experience”.
