Boxing Federation of India recognised as National Body

The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has been recognized as a national body by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).  Already, the BFI was recognized by the International Boxing Association (AIBA) and the Sports Ministry.

The decision removed the terminated Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) as its affiliate after months of indecision.

According to the olympic charter, sporting federation must be recognised by the international body. Therefore the IOA has ratified the Olympic charter.

‘Clean Sea-2017’ exercise at sea off Port Blair

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) conducted the regional level marine oil pollution response exercise ‘Clean Sea-2017’. It was held at sea off Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The Indian Coast Guard has established three pollution response centres at Mumbai, Chennai and Port Blair which is responsible for marine environment protection in the maritime zones of India and is the coordinating authority for response to oil spills in Indian waters.

Union Ministry approved procurement of new radio technology for Indian navy

The Union Defence Ministry approved procurement of 260 naval communication sets including Software Defined Radios (SDR), naval communication sets for Indian Navy of worth Rs. 490 crore.

The decision was taken at a meeting of Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) chaired by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The DAC is the defence ministry’s highest decision making body on procurement.

Software-defined radio (SDR) is a radio communication system where components that have been traditionally implemented in hardware are instead implemented by means of software on a personal computer or embedded system.


Rs.500 crore allocated for Clean Ganga Mission

The UK-based Indian-origin businessmen have committed to projects worth nearly Rs 500 crore associated with the Clean Ganga mission.

Vedanta Group chief Anil Agarwal has pledged his support for the regeneration of the city’s riverfront,shipping magnate Ravi Mehrotra has taken on Kanpur, the Hinduja Group will develop the ghats of Haridwar and Indorama Group chief Sri Prakash Lohia will take charge of Ganga Sagar in Kolkata.

As part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) agenda, the businessmen will take on the projects and work with the Indian government on finalising the plans for each of the cities.


West Bengal gets Financial aid from World Bank for Electric buses

The West Bengal state government has negotiated with the World Bank to get subsidy to buy 130 electric buses. World Bank has agreed to provide a subsidy of Rs Seven lakh per bus.

The electric buses will be available in in Kolkata, Asansol and Durgapur, announced by state Transport Minister Suvendu Adhikari.

One rupee note turns 100 years in age

The One Rupee note printed in India turned 100. The first Re1 note printed in England was issued on November 30, 1917 in India, with an image of King George V, the British monarch.This is not signed by the RBI governor, but by the finance secretary.

The first note had the signature of three British finance secretaries — MMS Gubbay, AC McWatters and H Denning — and every note is signed by the finance secretary, including 18 since Independence.


Nagaland celebrates Statehood Day and Hornbill festival

Nagaland is all set to celebrate the 54th Statehood Day and the 18th Hornbill festival 2017 at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama.Since the formal inauguration of Nagaland as a state on December 1, 1963, the Government of Nagaland has been observing December 1 as Statehood Day.

President Ram Nath Kovind will grace the occasion and inaugurate the 10 day State Hornbill festival 2017.

Russia assists India to Set up National Crisis Response Centre

Russia will assist India to set up a national crisis management centre in the country. The aim of  National Crisis Response Centre is to handle disaster and other emergency situations.

This was agreed between Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Russian Minister for Emergency Situations Vladimir Puchkov in Moscow. EMERCOM of Russia would cooperate with India in the establishment of the National Crisis Management Centre (NCMC) in India.

IMF approves 88 billion US dollar Flexible credit line for Mexico

The International Monetary Fund approved a new 88 billion US dollar credit line for Mexico, replacing the existing line. It is a two-year agreement.

It is approved as a protection against fallout in global financial markets.

The Flexible Credit Line (FCL) was designed to meet the demand for crisis-prevention and crisis-mitigation lending for countries with very strong policy frameworks and track records in economic performance.

BHIM App launched by Railways

As an initiative for Digital India Program Railway Ministry has introduced the facility for booking of railway tickets from railway counters through Unified Payments Interface (UPI)/ Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) App.

There will be no additional charges will be levied from passengers making payment at railway counters using UPI/BHIM for a period of 3 months.

It Promotes Government’s initiative for increasing digital/cashless transaction.
