- National Mathematics Day is observed on 22 December to commemorate the 144th birth anniversary of ace mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, who was born on 22 December 1887.
- In 2012, Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh declared 22 December as National Mathematics Day.

Mastercard partners with Google Pay on tokenisation for card-based transactions
- Mastercard has joined hands with Google to roll out tokenisation on Google Pay that will enable its users to transact through a secured digital token without having to share their credit or debit card details with merchants.
- Android users of Google Pay may now scan and pay at all Bharat QR-enabled retailers, tap-and-pay and perform in-app transactions with their Mastercard debit and credit cards. To add their card to the Google Pay application, customers will need to complete a one-time setup by inputting their card details and their one-time password (OTP).
India and the German Development Bank (KFW) sign a €442.26 million loan pact for Surat Metro Rail Project
- The Union Government of India and the German Development Bank (KFW) have signed a €442.26 million loan pact for Surat Metro Rail Project to improve and expand the Surat urban agglomeration’s transportation infrastructure through transit-oriented development alleviate traffic congestion and enable integrated town and land use planning.
- This project also intends to create an integrated multi-modal transportation system in the metro corridor’s influence zone, providing first and last-mile connections as well as enhanced access to the Surat Metro.

Indian Oil Corporation acquires a 4.93% stake in the Indian Gas Exchange
- Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has acquired a 93% stake in the Indian Gas Exchange (IGX), a subsidiary of the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX).
- This acquisition of an equity holding in IGX will enable IOCL to enter the Indian natural gas industry and expand its presence in order to gain market leadership.
- IGX is expected to play a key role in assisting the Indian Government in meeting its goal of raising natural gas’s share of India’s energy basket from 6.5 per cent to 15 per cent by 2030.

National Payments Corporation of India partners with Udemy Business to upskill employees
- National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has partnered with Udemy Business to encourage continuous learning and skill development for its employees.
- The three-year association of the NPCI with Udemy Business will offer courses on in-demand skills such as tech, domain, behavioural and leadership skills to all its employees, who will now be able to access challenging assignments to enable experiential learning.
- Udemy offers programmes to build capability in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), blockchain, distributed ledger technology (DLT), advance open source, robotic process automation (RPA), product strategy and relationship management.
Jammu and Kashmir signs an MoU with UCB Dubai to provide better opportunities for students
- The Jammu and Kashmir Government inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University College Birmingham (UCB) to investigate future progression prospects through institutional partnerships with vocational institutions and universities in Jammu and Kashmir at the India Global Forum in Dubai.

- GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) was awarded the Certificate of Merit for the excellent efforts in the areas of energy conservation by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency under the prestigious ‘National Energy Conservation Awards 2021’ (NECA 2021).
- It was the only airport in the airport sector that received this distinct recognition.

- According to the Wizikey News Score Ranking 2021, India’s largest corporate by revenues, profitability and market value, Reliance Industries Limited is India’s most visible corporate in the media.
- The State Bank of India ranked second, followed by Bharti Airtel, Infosys and Tata Motors, according to Wizikey’s News Score Ranking.
- Wizikey’s News Score is the first complete statistic for measuring news visibility in the industry. This ranking is based on each brand’s Wizikey news score, which considers the volume of news, headline grabs, media organisations’ unique reach and readership.

India successfully tests the short-range ballistic missile ‘Pralay’ from the Odisha coast
- The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted the maiden flight test of indigenously developed surface-to-surface missile ‘Pralay’ from Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha.
- ‘Pralay’ is a 350–500 km short-range, surface-to-surface missile with a payload capacity of 500–1000 kg and is powered with a solid propellant rocket motor.
- This missile is similar to a ballistic missile. This advanced missile was created with the goal of defeating interceptor missiles.

- Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne has topped the ICC Rankings for batsman in Tests 2021, surpassing England’s Joe Root.
- After his stunning performances in the first two Ashes matches, he has moved to the top of the ICC batsman rankings for the first time.
- Indian captain Virat Kohli slipped a notch to be placed seventh from the sixth position in the latest ICC rankings for Test batsman.
- Among bowlers, Ravichandran Ashwin is still in second place behind Australian skipper Pat Cummins.

Senior Political leader P. T. Thomas passed away
- Senior political leader and Thrikkakara MLA T. Thomas passed away at the age of 71.
- He had served as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) four times and also represented the Idukki constituency in the Lok Sabha.
- He represented the Thodupuzha constituency in the Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1991 and 2001. In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, he won from the Idukki constituency.
