International Childhood Cancer Day – 15 February

  • International Childhood Cancer Day is observed on 15 February every year to spread awareness around different kinds of childhood cancers, their diagnosis and treatment.
  • The International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) is a global collaborative effort to disseminate hope and foster a greater knowledge of the difficulties that children and adolescents with cancer face. This day emphasises the need for more equitable treatment access for children with cancer.
  • The theme of International Childhood Cancer Day for 2022 is ‘Better survival is achievable through your hands’. ‘

Union Government approves ₹ 26,275 crores for the continuation of police modernisation

  • The Union Government has approved ₹ 26,275 for the continuation of the mega police modernisation scheme for five years till 2025–26 to improve the quality of forensics, policing and weapons.
  • This scheme covers security-related expenditures in Jammu and Kashmir, the northeastern states and insurgency-affected areas, such as the formation of new battalions, the development of high-tech forensic laboratories and other investigation equipment.

Indian Railways plans to set up the biggest wrestling academy of India in Delhi

  • The Indian Railways will build a world-class wrestling academy in Kishanganj, Delhi, at an approximate cost of₹ 30.76 crores.
  • This wrestling academy would be the biggest in India, equipped with advanced training facilities.
  • This sports facility being made in Delhi will be exclusively for wrestling and will provide opportunity for aspiring wrestlers to improve their talents and become world champions in the coming years.
  • The Indian Railways is contributing to the promotion of sports in India through the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB).

The eighth session of the India–Italy foreign office consultations was held in Rome

  • The eighth session of the India-Italy Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) was held in Rome, where the two sides reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral relations.
  • The two sides also discussed India–EU relations and agreed on the need to commence negotiations on the India–EU free trade and investment agreements at the earliest.
  • Italy’s interest in implementing the EU’s Indo–Pacific guidelines and the India–EU connectivity partnership was welcomed by India.

  • The Central Jail of Indore in Madhya Pradesh got its own radio channel named ‘Jail Vaani FM 18.77’
  • The prisoners listen to the radio station in the hopes of finding entertainment while also learning about current events across the world. This radio station will also deliver health-related information to the inmates.

  • The Small Farmers Agri-business Consortium (SFAC) has empaneled IndusInd Bank to improve digital collection and settlement services for transactions between farmers and traders across India on the National Agriculture Market (e-NAM)
  • Induslnd Bank has been directly integrated with the e-NAM platform to make secure and hassle-free payments and clearing and settlement services to the farmers and traders.
  • The bank would provide a variety of transaction services to the buyer and seller of agricultural produce using digital channels like multi-net banking, debit card, National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT), Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS), Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) and Unified Payments Interface (UPI).

Ilker Ayci was appointed as the CEO and MD of Air India

  • The former chairman of Turkish Airlines Ilker Ayci was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of Air India.
  • He began his career in 1994 as an adviser to current Turkey President Recep Tayip Erdogan and later served s the mayor of Istanbul. After that, he worked in the insurance industry before becoming the President of Turkey’s national investment promotion agency in 2011.
  • He took over as the Chairman of Turkish Airlines in 2015.
  • Air India Limited is a private entity and is under the ownership of Tata Group, headquartered at the Air India Building in Nariman Point, Mumbai.

Blackstone acquires a majority stake in ASK Investment Managers

  • The world’s largest alternative asset manager Blackstone has acquired a majority stake in asset and wealth management company, ASK Investment Managers Limited.
  • ASK is one of India’s first portfolio managers, with operations across Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe.
  • Blackstone is a US-based company and has diversified investments in India pegged at over $ 60 billion and is among the biggest investors in the commercial real estate space in India.

Dabur India becomes the first Indian plastic waste neutral FMCG company in India

  • India’s largest science-based Ayurveda firm Dabur India Limited has become a 100 per cent ‘plastic trash neutral’ company in India, collecting, processing and recycling roughly 27,000 metric tonnes of post-consumer plastic waste from across India in the fiscal year 2021–22.
  • Dabur has become the first Indian consumer goods company to achieve this landmark of surpassing its plastic packaging usage with recycling.

  • In this book, he sets out clearly and eloquently what the world should have learnt from COVID-19 and what we can all do to avoid another calamity like it.
  • His last book, ‘How to Avoid a Climate Disaster: The Solutions We Have and the Breakthroughs We Need’, was released in February 2021.

Former Madras High Court judge Raviraja Pandian passed away

  • The former high court judge of Madras Raviraja Pandian passed away at the age of 74.
  • He was appointed as an Additional Government Pleader in 1989 and later promoted to Special Government Pleader.
  • He served as a Judge on the Madras High Court for more than nine years, from March 2000 to January 2010. The Tamil Nadu Government named him as the Chairperson of the Private Schools Fee Determination Committee after he retired.
