Union Government extends Stand Up India Scheme up to 2025

  • Union Government has extended the Stand Up India Scheme that promotes entrepreneurship among women, SC and STs up to 2025.
  • This scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2016 to facilitate loans to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and women borrowers.
  • The loan amount for Stand Up India Scheme is extended by Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs) between 10 lakhs and Rs. 1 crore.

MECL signs an MoU with DMG for exploration of iron ore reserves in Goa

  • The Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited (MECL), a notified mineral exploration agency under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Mines of Government of India, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Directorate of Mines & Geology (DMG), Goa, for exploration of iron ore reserves in Goa.

IIT-Ropar researchers develop a first-of-its-kind oxygen rationing device

  • Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ropar, have developed a first-of-its-kind device that can regulate the flow of medical oxygen from the cylinder during inhalation and exhalation by a patient, thereby reducing wastage.
  • This device supplies the required volume of oxygen to a patient during inhalation and trips when the patient exhales, thereby saving the flow of oxygen at that time.

Russia successfully test-fires S-500 missile system

  • Russia had successfully test-fired its new S-500 air defence missile systems at a southern training range and hit a high-speed ballistic target.
  • S-500 missile system is expected to have a maximum firing range of 600 kilometres. It is the most advanced anti-missile system in the world and is capable of countering attacks from space.
