India to build nuclear power plants in ‘Fleet Mode’ from 2023

  • India has planned to build nuclear power plants in ‘Fleet Mode’. The first pour of concrete for a 700 MW atomic power plant in Karnataka’s Kaiga nuclear power plant is scheduled in 2023.
  • India is set to put in motion construction activities for 10 ‘fleet mode’ nuclear reactors over the next three years.
  • The first pour of concrete (FPC) signals the beginning of construction of nuclear power reactors from the pre-project stage which includes excavation activities at the project site.

 

 

RBI governor Shaktikanta Das opens varnika ink manufacturing unit of BRBNMPL in Mysuru, Karnataka

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das dedicated to the nation the Varnika ink manufacturing facility in Mysuru, Karnataka. Varnika was set up by the Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran (BRBNMPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of RBI.
  • BRBNMPL has set up Varnika with an annual ink manufacturing capacity of 1,500 MT to enhance the security of banknotes.

Assam and Meghalaya sign a pact to end border dispute in six contested areas

  • Assam and Meghalaya have decided to end their five-decade-old border dispute in six of the twelve contested locations that often-raised tensions between the two states.
  • This agreement was signed in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah by the Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma and Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma.
  • Assam shares a 2743 km boundary with Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and West Bengal.

The Democratic Republic of Congo joins the seventh member of the East African Community

  • The Democratic Republic of Congo is all set to be admitted as the seventh member of the East African Community (EAC).
  • The Democratic Republic of Congo comes into the bloc with a huge market of 90 million people and the potential to contribute to an expanded market and investment opportunities.
  • The East African Community is an intergovernmental organisation composed of seven countries in the African Great Lakes region in East Africa: Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
  • President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta is the current Chairman of EAC.

IAF partners with IOCL to launch an initiative ‘Fleet Card – Fuel on Move’ to speed up IAF convoy movements

  • Indian Air Force (IAF) has partnered with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) to launch an initiative ‘Fleet Card – Fuel on Move’ for the management of the fuel supply chain and energy security for IAF.
  • ‘Fleet Card’ is the energy security for IAF vehicles on move, was launched by Air Chief Marshal R. Chaudhari, Chief of Air Staff at Headquarters Western Air Command, Subroto Park.

Mahesh Verma was appointed as the Chairman of NABH

  • Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University vice-chancellor Mahesh Verma has been appointed the new Chairman of the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare providers (NABH).
  • He received Padma Shri (India’s fourth-highest civilian award) in 2014.
  • NABH is a constituent Board of Quality Council of India (QCI), operates accreditation, certification and empanelment programmes for healthcare organisations.

Meghalaya’s root bridges included in UNESCO’s tentative list of World Heritage Sites

  • The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has included Meghalaya’s ‘Living Root Bridges’ on a tentative list of World Heritage sites.
  • Villagers grow the living root bridges by training the ‘ficus elastica’ tree on both sides of water bodies over a period of about 10 to 15 years where the roots form the bridge.
  • At present, there are about 100 known living root bridges spread across 70 villages in Meghalaya.

 

Indian weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu wins the BBC ISWOTY award

  • Indian weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu has been announced the winner of the third edition of the BBC Indian sportswoman of the year award.
  • Mirabai Chanu became the first Indian weightlifter to clinch a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

  • According to the Duff & Phelps Celebrity Brand Valuation Report 2021, Indian Cricketer Virat Kohli has emerged as the most valued celebrity in India with his brand value of $ 185.7 million for the fifth year in a row.
  • Virat Kohli was followed by actor Ranveer Singh (brand value – 3 million), actor Akshay Kumar (brand value – 139.6 million) and actress Alia Bhatt (the youngest celebrity in the top 10).

India ranks fourth in the Hurun global under forty self-made billionaires 2022

  • According to the Hurun Research Institute report, India has ranked fourth in the Hurun global under forty self-made billionaires in 2022. This Hurun report 2022 lists eighty-seven self-made billionaires in the world aged upto forty.
  • The list was topped by The USA with 37 self-made billionaires, China is second with 25 billionaires, The United Kingdom is third with 8 billionaires, India is fourth with 6 billionaires and Sweden is fifth with 3
  • Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is the world’s richest self-made billionaire aged 40 and under with a total wealth of $ 76 billion. He is followed by ByteDance CEO Zhang Yiming, FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky and Facebook Co-founder Dustin Moskovitz, respectively.

Former Sikkim Chief Minister Bhim Bahadur Gurung passed away at 92

  • Former Chief Minister of Sikkim Bhim Bahadur Gurung passed away at the age of 92 in Gangtok, Sikkim. He was the third Chief Minister of Sikkim.
  • He served as the political advisor to the Chief Minister (Pawan Kumar Chamling) of Sikkim between 2014 and 2015.

  • Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi defeated Karthik Venkataraman to win the nineteenth Delhi International open chess tournament 2022.
