Power Minister RK Singh launches Web Portal and App called PRAAPTI

A Web portal and an App namely PRAAPTI (Payment Ratification And Analysis in Power procurement for bringing Transparency in Invoicing of generators), www.praapti.in, has been launched by Hon’ble Minister of State (I/C) for Power, Shri Raj Kumar Singh in the presence of Secretary, Shri A.K. Bhallaand.

PRAAPTI App and web portal has been developed to bring transparency in power purchase transactions between Generators and Discoms.

PRAAPTI will also allow the consumers to evaluate financial performance of their Discoms in terms of payments being made to the generation companies.


‘Gaj Yatra’ Flagged Off in Meghalaya

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) has launched the ‘Gaj Yatra’, a nationwide campaign from Tura, the principal town of Garo Hills.

It aims at securing 100 elephant corridors across India. Four of these are in Meghalaya, including the Siju-Rewak corridor that some 1,000 elephants use to travel between the Balpakram and Nokrek National Parks in the State.

WHO adopts Resolution on Digital Health initiated by India: JP Nadda

The resolution on digital health bought out by India was adopted by the 71st World Health Assembly, the decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO). It was announced by Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda.

Digital health technology have a huge potential for supporting Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and improving accessibility, quality and affordability of health services. The 71st World Health Assembly was held last week in Geneva and was attended by delegations from all WHO member states.

Nadda had also indicated that India was planning to host a Global Digital Health Summit in near future with the support of WHO and hoped it would contribute to WHO’s efforts to come up with a comprehensive global health strategy on digital health.


Ministry of Women and Child Development Signs MoU With UP

The Ministry of Women and Child and Development and Government of India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Department of Women and Child Development, Government of Uttar Pradesh, in New Delhi.

It has been signed for the management of Home of Widows. The MoU shall be in force for a period of 2 years which may be renewed for further period.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development has constructed this shelter home for widows with a capacity of 1000 inmates.

According to the MoU, the Government of Uttar Pradesh shall be responsible for activities including setting up mechanism for identifying beneficiaries, providing residential care to the widows, deploying staff as per norms with prescribed qualification and experience.


Cochin International Airport: World’s 1st Fully Solar Energy-Powered Airport

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has recognized Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) in Kerala as the world’s first fully solar energy-powered airport. It is the busiest and largest airport in the state of Kerala. It was announced by UNEP global chief Erik Solheim

CIAL is India’s first airport to be constructed in public-private-partnership (PPP) model in 1999.The airport has 15 MWp solar power plant near the cargo complex of airport comprising 46,150 solar panels laid across 45 acres.

The power plant is accompanied by a solar farm, with vegetables grown below and between solar panels. Solheim also said solar energy reduces pollution and can compete with coal powered power plants in terms of expenses.

NIC Launches India’s 4th Data Centre in Bhubaneswar

The technology backbone of the government – the National Informatics Center (NIC) – is launching its fourth data center in Bhubaneshwar to address the increased load from various new digital projects. This data centre in Bhubaneswar is of global standards.

The server will cater to demand not just from the national projects but also from the state governments.

The launch of the new government projects such as MyGov, Goods and Services Tax’s e-way Bill, Direct Benefits Transfer among others has increased the demand for compute, storage and networking.


Odisha police and UNICEF launched Paree Pain Katha Tiye

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has launched ‘Paree Pain Katha Tiye’ (A word for the little angel), a State-wide awareness campaign against child sexual abuse.

UNICEF and the State police have joined hands for the campaign to create awareness on the importance and role of every member of society in preventing child sexual abuse, need for reporting and need for trauma care.

Fifteen vans modified as ‘Paree Express’ flagged off by Mr. Patnaik will cover all 30 districts during the campaign.

India, World Bank sign USD 21.7 million loan agreement for Rajasthan Project

India signs Loan Agreement with the World Bank for USD 21.7 Million for Strengthening the Public Financial Management in Rajasthan Project.

The Project aims to contribute to improved Budget Execution, enhanced Accountability and greater efficiency in Revenue Administration in Rajasthan.

It was signed by Shri Sameer Kumar Khare, Joint Secretary (FB and ADB), Ministry of Finance, India and Mr. Hisham Abdo, Acting Country Director, World Bank (India).

The Project size is approximately USD 31 million, of which USD 21.7 million will be financed by the World Bank, and the remaining amount will be funded-out of the State Budget. The Project duration is 5 years.


Patanjali ties up with BSNL

After becoming India’s most trusted Fast Moving Consumer Goods brand, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali has entered the telecom sector.

At an event, Baba Ramdev launched Swadeshi Samriddhi SIM cards, in alliance with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).

Initially, only the employees and office bearers of Patanjali will be able to avail the benefits of the SIM card.

Agni Putri to head DRDO’s aeronautical projects

India’s top woman missile scientist Agni Putri has been appointed as the head of DRDO’s aeronautical project. She has become the first woman to be appointed head of DG-Aero. She will succeed CP Ramnarayan.

Tessy Thomas, Director of the Advanced Systems Laboratory, Hyderabad, has been elevated to the post of Director-General, Aeronautical Systems (DG-Aero) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).


Paraguay to have its first woman president

Alicia Pucheta  has been appointed as the first woman president of Paraguay(temporarily).

Paraguay will have a woman president for the first time in its history after outgoing leader Horacio Cartes stepped down.

Alicia Pucheta is from the rightist Colorado Party, which has been in power for decades.

Justice R.K. Agrawal Appointed as NCDRC Chairman

Former Supreme Court judge Justice R K Agrawal has been appointed the President of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC).

The NCDRC, which deals with consumer rights and addresses their disputes and grievances, is a quasi-judicial commission set up in 1988 under the Consumer Protection Act of 1986.

Justice Agrawal, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, was sworn in as a judge of the top court on February 17, 2014. He will take over from Justice D K Jain.

Amar Devulapalli: New President of Indian Journalists Union (IJU)

Senior journalists, Amar Devulapalli and Sabina Inderjit, were unanimously elected president and secretary-general respectively of Indian Journalists Union (IJU), most representative organisation of the working journalists in the country.

Currently he is the Secretary-General of Indian Journalists Union (IJU).

Sabina Inderjit is a senior journalist based in Delhi and working as associate editor of the Indian News and Features Agency (INFA).

The award, instituted by Shree Ramkrishna Knowledge Foundaton (SRKKF) and led by diamond baron Govind Dholakia, includes a trophy and a prize money of Rs 1 crore each to the awardees.


Kailash Satyarthi, ISRO chief get ‘Santokbaa Humanitarian’ award

President Ram Nath Kovind has presented the ‘Santokbaa Humanitarian Award’ to two noted personalities.

The awards were received by Child rights activist and Noble Laureate Kailash Satyarthi and space scientist A S Kiran Kumar, Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

Former Himachal Pradesh governor Urmila Singh passed away

Former Himachal Pradesh governor and Congress leader Urmila Singh has passed away.

Singh had also served as a minister in Madhya Pradesh government and had headed the state Congress unit.

International Day of UN Peacekeepers – May 29

The International Day of UN Peacekeepers was observed on May 29 every year. The first UN peacekeeping mission was established on 29 May 1948.

The Dag Hammarskjöld Medal will be awarded posthumously to the peacekeepers who died in 2017 while serving in the cause of peace.
