TAMIL NADU

1. Tamil Nadu tops in the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) among big states

• Tamil Nadu tops in the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) among the big states and is in the third place in the overall Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) with 4%.
• Sikkim tops GER with 8% and Chandigarh is in the second place with 52.1%.
• New Education policy has the target of achieving 50% GER by 2030. Tamil Nadu has achieved the target by 2020, ten years ahead of time.

1. பெரிய மாநிலங்களில் மொத்த மாணவர் சேர்க்கை விகிதத்தில் (GER) தமிழகம் முதலிடம் வகிக்கிறது

2. Eight members included in the NEET panel

• A high-level committee headed by A K Rajan, retired judge of the Madras High Court was appointed by the Tamil Nadu Government to study the impact on aspirants from the socially disadvantaged sections in medical admissions.
• Eight members were appointed to the panel and was directed to submit the report within a month. The members are – G. R. Ravindranath, Jawahar Nesan, Chief Secretaries of Medicines and People Welfare Department and School Education Department, Special purpose officer of Medicines and People Welfare Department, Director of Medical Education.
• Last year Tamil Nadu government introduced 5 per cent reservation to government school students who cleared NEET in medical admissions.

3. COMSOL platform is now available through I-STEM for academic researchers at free of cost

• I-STEM portal academic users in India will now be able to access the COMSOL Multiphysics software suite at no cost for the first time in India. It aims to provide user friendly access from anywhere in India especially to those in the more remote area and thereby enhancing learning outcomes and promoting R&D efforts across India.
• I-STEM is an initiative of Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India under the PM-STIAC The Indian Science Technology and Engineering Facilities Map (I-STEM) is the national web portal for sharing R&D facilities. The goal is to strengthen the R&D ecosystem by connecting researchers with resources through the I-STEM web portal.
• The COMSOL Multiphysics software was developed by the COMSOL Group of Sweden. It is used worldwide as an indispensable tool for a variety of computer simulations for R&D as well as for learning and instruction.

3. காம்சோல் தளம் இப்போது இலவசமாக கல்வி ஆராய்ச்சியாளர்களுக்கு ஐ–ஸ்டெம் மூலம் கிடைக்கிறது

4. UK and Indian scientists develop low-cost sensor to detect COVID-19 in wastewater 

• Scientists from the University of Strathclyde and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay have jointly developed a low-cost sensor that can detect fragments of the virus responsible for COVID-19 within wastewater.
• The sensor was tested with wastewater collected from a sewage treatment plant in Mumbai spiked with SARS-Cov-2 Ribonucleic Acid.
• It uses PCR test and was able to detect the genetic material at concentrations as low as 10 picograms per microlitre.

5. Boeing’s MQ-25 T1 unmanned aircraft completes mid-air refuelling for the first time in history

• Boeing’s unmanned MQ-25 T1 aircraft refuelled a U.S. navy F/A-18 fighter jet in mid-air.
• This is the first time in history, where an unmanned aircraft refuelled another in mid-air.

6. Prime Minister Narendra Modi to participate in the virtual G7 Summit

• UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson invited Modi to participate in G7 Summit. UK currently holds the Presidency of the G7. India, Australia, South Korea and South Africa were invited as guest countries for the G7 Summit.
• Theme: ‘Build Back Better’
• This is the second time Prime Minister Modi will be participating in G7. India had been invited by the G7 French Presidency in 2019.

G7

• G7 is an intergovernmental organisation of industrialised democracies that was formed in 1975. It includes USA, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Italy and UK. The group meets annually to discuss the areas of common interest.
• It became G8 after Russia joined the team in 1997. However, Russia was removed after it captured Crimea in 2014.

• The first meeting of the Joint Working Group on Cyber Security Cooperation between India and Australia was held virtually.
• Paulomi Tripathi, Director (Oceania), in the Ministry of External Affairs led the Indian delegation of experts to discuss the cyber security cooperation between the two countries.
• The Joint Working Group on Cyber Security Cooperation is a mechanism established to implement the 2020-25 Plan of Action under the Framework. It brings together policy makers and working level experts in the area to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

9. Union Education Minister releases the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) 2019-20 report

• Union Education Minister released the 10^th All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) 2019-20 report. The report reflects the continuous emphasis given by the government on Higher Education. It compares the factors of 2015-16 with 2019-20.
• Highlights of All India Survey on Higher Education Report 2019-20:

1. Total Enrolmentin Higher Education have grown to 04%.
2. Gross Enrolment Ratio(GER), the percentage of students belonging to the eligible age group enrolled in Higher Education is 1% in 2019-20. Sikkim tops GER with 75.8% and Chandigarh is in second place with 52.1% and Tamil Nadu is in the 3^rd place with 51.4%
3. Gender Parity Index (GPI)in Higher Education is 01 against 1.00 in 2018-19 indicating an improvement in the relative access to higher education for females of eligible age group compared to males.
4. Pupil Teacher Ratioin Higher Education is 26.
5. The Total Number of Teachers comprise of 5% male and 42.5% female.
6. The number of PhDs increased by 60% in last five years.
7. The number of Institutes of National Importance (INIs) have increased from 75 in 2015 to 135 in 2020.
8. Student enrolment has grown by 4% from 2015-16 to 2019-20.
9. Female enrolment in Higher Education increased 2% from 2015-16 to 2019-20.

9. அகில இந்திய உயர்கல்வி அறிக்கை (AISHE) 2019-20ஐ மத்திய கல்வி அமைச்சர் வெளியிட்டுள்ளார்

• மத்திய கல்வி அமைச்சர் அகில இந்திய உயர்கல்வி அறிக்கை (AISHE) 2019-20ஐ வெளியிட்டார். உயர் கல்விக்கு அரசு தொடர்ந்து அளித்து வரும் முக்கியத்துவத்தை இந்த அறிக்கை பிரதிபலிக்கிறது. இது 2019-20இன் காரணிகளை 2015-16உடன் ஒப்பிடுகிறது.
• அகில இந்திய உயர்கல்வி அறிக்கை 2019-20இன் சிறப்பம்சங்கள்:

1. உயர்கல்வியில் மொத்த மாணவர் சேர்க்கை04% அதிகரித்துள்ளது.
