What is needed ? – Speed or Accuracy

Dear Bankersdaily Aspirants ,

The most expected IBPS exams which is rumored to be announced this week have hyped the aspirants to start the preparations. Always the hype will be real and make the aspirants to make their preparations more intense. Many aspirants would have settled with a strategy to crack the exam and they would have started their preparations with that one.

Many aspirants would be confused with the fact of talks between Accuracy and Speed. Even though the both determine the aspirant’s future , the mismatch comes when the question is hard to crack. These days exams have questions which needs deep analysis for solving that particular question and speed also matters. The question raises at that juncture of that instance where they are really confused.

So today let’s have a look at the prospects of both the factors which determines the results of the candidate and even the future of the candidate.

SPEED – An Inevitable part of Preliminary Examination

In every exam where preliminary exams play a extensive role in selecting the pertinent candidate for the main examination. Since the exam is time bound , candidates are required to solve questions in a relatively lesser time.

Relatively every preliminary examination has around 60 questions which needs to solved within 60 minutes. Practically the exams are hard to crack and a question a minute is possible only when the questions are easier and absolutely speed is required to do it in a flash.

It is highly impossible to solve 60 questions in 60 minutes if the questions are hard , but think in a reverse demeanor , if the questions are easier and one can do more questions in 60 minutes of time. So easier or hard to solve is not the matter in the preliminary exams and how much questions we answer , determines the mark. You may have contradictory views but this is the reality.

An aspirant cannot crack the exam if he solves less number of questions , the chance of clearing the preliminary exams are less when you solve less number of problems when compared with the difficulty level of the exam. The difficulty level and the solving ability of an individual candidate determines the Cut-off mark of the examination and nobody can hold grudge against this theory.

So if you wish to crack the preliminary examination , you need to speed up your solving methods and solve the problems in the flash of a second.

Speed of solving a problem ∝ Clearing the preliminary exam

ACCURACY – Indispensable factor to clear Mains examination

The scenario is totally different from the preliminary exams , here only accuracy matters. Yes , accuracy matters and your speed has considerable percentage apart from that. The percentage of speed is a meager factor only and it doesn’t affect your overall marks.

Since in mains examination , every section has individual time , the role played by the speed is very very less. Although you cannot take the pleasure of solving a quantitative aptitude section which is slated to be over in 40 minutes and 50 questions have to be solved. So it is apparent that your accuracy matters and a normal solving speed is sufficient to crack each section.

The cutoff is more or less same for all the exams. The accuracy matters and even if you solve less number of questions , you may score higher than what you attend. That’s why accuracy is needed in the mains examination. Also the difficulty level of the mains examination makes it hard to take speed factor into consideration.

Some of you may even argue that speed of solving many questions will actually get you more marks but it may even backfire you.

Let’s take a “X” person attends a mains examination and he take “Y” minutes to solve a section and attends all the questions and he gets less marks. The reason is accuracy , even if you don’t know a question definitely , some candidates attend the question by calculating the luck factor , in fact it has two answers , a 100% or a -100%.

If you have answered a question wrong , you not only lose that question’s mark but also the negative mark which could affect the correct answers percentage and it directly affects your accuracy percentage. So lesser your accuracy percentage , the lesser marks you get.

So attend the questions which you are confident and please choose wisely if you cannot solve a question. As said a 100% or a negative percent will be the correct derivative.

Accuracy of answering ∝ Gaining marks in the Mains examination

Even you may have the arguments based on this if you have devised a strategy which solely focuses on one topic. If a factor is taken into account , the other factor has a less consideration. So we thought this will be apt strategy and this can be followed.

If you have any discrepancy regarding this , please mention it in the comments section and it may even help others in devising a strategy to prepare for their exams. Actually discussions give the best results for every situation , We believe even this could give you a strong strategy for your preparations to ace the exams.
