FSSAI launches new campaign to eliminate trans fats by 2022:

DAILY CURRENT AFFAIRS: DECEMBER 3, 2018

  • The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) launched a media campaign calling for the elimination of industrially produced trans-fat in the food supply.

  • Named “Heart Attack Rewind”, the 30-second public service announcement the first mass media campaign of its kind will support FSSAI’s global target of eliminating trans-fat in India by 2022, a year ahead of the global target by the World Health Organization.


Union Agriculture Minister inaugurated Global Agriculture and Food Summit 2018 in Jharkhand:

  • Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh will inaugurate the two-day Global Agriculture and Food summit in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

Asia-Pacific Summit 2018 in Nepal:

  • The Asia Pacific Summit 2018-Nepal, organised by the controversial South Korea-based Universal Peace Federation and supported by the Government of Nepal, kicks off in Kathmandu.

  • It would help promote tourism and support ‘Visit Nepal Year 2020’ initiative, highlight the successfully concluded peace process and promulgation of new constitution and explore new diplomatic and business opportunities for Nepal.


South African President Cyril Ramaphosa To Be 2019 Republic Day Chief Guest:

  • South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will be chief guest at India’s 70th Republic Day celebrations. Mr Ramaphosa was invited to be the chief guest by Prime Minister Narendra Modi when the two leaders met on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires.

World Bank unveils USD 200 bn in climate action investment for 2021-25:

  • The World Bank has unveiled 200 billion US Dollars in climate action investment for 2021 to 2025, adding that this amounts to a doubling of its current five-year funding. The move coincides with a UN climate summit in Katowice.


ECB launch TIPS instant payment system:

  • The European Central Bank has launched a new system aimed at letting banks settle payments instantly across Europe, helping them to compete with PayPal and other global tech giants.

  • The so-called TIPS system will allow consumers and businesses across the 19-nation euro area to send and receive money in mere seconds, without the usual lags associated with online and real-world transactions.


State Bank of Mauritius gets RBI approval for subsidiary:

  • The Reserve Bank of India has approved merger of SBM (Mauritius), India with SBM Bank (India), which has been granted licence by the Reserve Bank to carry on the business of banking in India through Wholly Owned Subsidiary (WOS) mode under the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

  • All the branches of SBM Bank (Mauritius) Limited in India will function as branches of SBM Bank (India) Limited with effect from December 01, 2018,

NGT appoints former HC judge U C Dhyani to monitor Ganga cleaning

  • The National Green Tribunal has appointed former Uttarakhand High Court judge, Justice U C Dhyani, as head of the three-member committee to oversee rejuvenation work of the Ganga river.
  • A bench headed by chairperson A K Goel had earlier named Justice Arun Tandon as head of the panel which was set up on August 6 this year.

IOC sets up human rights advisory committee starting in 2024:

  • The IOC has set up an advisory committee on human rights chaired by Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein, the former U.N. high commissioner for human rights.
  • Human Rights Standards” will be included in Olympic host-city contracts, beginning with the 2024 Games in Paris.

Wrestling Federation of India rolls out contracts system for Wrestlers:

  • The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) rolled out its revolutionary contracts system for the grapplers. The announcement was made by WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditya Nath, who inaugurated the Senior National Championship at Nandini Nagar in Gonda.  The wrestlers have been placed in four Grades.

  • Grade A offers financial assistance of 30 lakh rupees – Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Pooja Dhanda. 

  • Grade B contract offers a financial assistance of 20 lakh rupees – Sushil Kumar and Sakshi Malik

  • Grade C category offers support of 10 lakh rupees – Sandeep Tomar, Sajan Bhanwal, Ritu Phogat, and Divya Kakran.

  • Grade D category offers a financial assistance of 5 lakh rupees – Rahul Aware, Naveen, Sachin Rathi, and Anshu Malik.


Women’s Pro Golf Tour: Ridhima Dilawari wins maiden professional title

  • In Golf, Ridhima Dilawari captured her maiden professional title at the Noida Golf Course. She cruised to a five-shot win in the 17th leg of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour.

  • Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik won gold in Tata Motors Senior National Championship:

  • In Wrestling, Vinesh Phogat capped a highly successful season by grabbing the 57-kilogram national title at the Tata Motors Senior National Championship in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh. 

  • Sakshi Malik ended a terrible year by emerging champion in the 62 kilograms. She did a world of good to her confidence by winning the title in the 62-kilogram without losing a single point.
